By the brand's own account, the story begins when Anna Hjartardottir, mother of the company's chief executive Margret Pinto, met a Swedish chemist who had patented a new mousse-based skincare technology. Hjartardottir brought the formula to Iceland, where, the company says, the harsh climate offered useful conditions for testing it [2].

Sources differ on how the founding is described. The brand's own site presents both Margret Pinto, listed as "Co-Founder & CEO", and Anna Hjartardottir as central to the founding story [2]. The brand's national identity is similarly layered. Although Iceland features in the origin story as a testing ground, the company is Swedish-patented, made in Sweden and registered there as Celsus Sweden AB. The product line centres on sunscreens sold across a range of SPF levels, from SPF 10 to SPF 50, in both adult and children's versions. The independent chemist Michelle Wong, writing on Lab Muffin Beauty Science, described the mechanism in more technical terms: a patented system combining glycerin, dimethicone and fatty acids that embeds the UV filters into the outer skin layer, an approach she noted is unusual in that it reportedly improves the skin's barrier function [8]. The formulas use a combination of UV filters including octocrylene and ethylhexyl triazone, and the company states they are free of substances such as oxybenzone, PABA and certain parabens.

EVY markets the range as suitable from six months of age and for sensitive, acne-prone, eczema-prone and rosacea-prone skin, and describes its products as fragrance-free, preservative-free and allergy-tested. A central claim is durability: that the sunscreen lasts six to eight hours and resists water, sweat and towel rubbing. This claim has drawn independent scrutiny. In a 2021 review, Wong reported results from third-party laboratory testing under a modified ISO protocol in which the measured SPF remained stable or rose after eight hours on skin, fell from 53 to about 35 after eight hours of water-resistance testing, and changed little after towel abrasion.
