Overview
Experimental Perfume Club is a London-based niche fragrance house founded by the French perfumer Emmanuelle Moeglin. It began as a small studio in the London Fields area, where Moeglin ran workshops to teach people about scent, and grew into a company that sells ready-made perfumes alongside bespoke blending experiences. Its central idea is that customers should be able to take part in creating their own fragrance rather than simply buying a finished bottle.
The company built its early reputation on education and personalisation at a time when, as Moeglin has put it, scent creation was largely "reserved for a select few." It is registered in the United Kingdom as Experimental Perfume Club Ltd and remains active, with a boutique in Covent Garden and continuous press coverage through to 2026 [14].

Origin and founders
Emmanuelle Moeglin trained at ISIPCA, a French perfumery school, and worked in the fragrance industry across Paris, New York, Barcelona and London before setting up on her own [9]. According to the company, she founded Experimental Perfume Club in 2016 to "break the boundaries of traditional perfumery and put the power of scent creation into the hands of individuals." The Perfume Society records the same starting point, describing a 2016 studio in London Fields where Moeglin "first developed workshops to help people understand scent better" [8].
The founding date is sometimes given as 2018. That year refers specifically to the launch of "Layers," a bespoke fragrance line presented at Liberty in London, rather than to the company itself; the Fragrance Foundation UK notes that Moeglin "opened the Experimental Perfume Club in London in 2016" and "launched Layers" two years later [9]. UK company records place the incorporation of Experimental Perfume Club Ltd on 1 August 2016, which the brand and the registry agree on [14].
Moeglin has said she deliberately avoided building a namesake label, preferring to stay "in the field of sharing, education, fun and creativity." Workshops were the original core offering and, according to the company, often sold out as soon as new dates were released.
Philosophy and positioning
Experimental Perfume Club positions itself around accessibility, personalisation and what it calls "clean perfumery." The brand's stated aim is to demystify fragrance and make the process more open, summed up in its mission line: "The world doesn't need more perfume. It needs yours." It describes its formulas as phthalate-free, paraben-free, vegan and cruelty-free, and says perfumes are blended in small batches at its London lab.
The house is associated with the broader move toward bespoke and gender-free fragrance that drew editorial attention in the late 2010s, including coverage in Vogue and Refinery29 on the rise of bespoke beauty. Trade and editorial sources have also described its approach as "slow perfumery," a method that devotes months to developing and producing each scent [12].
Products and innovation
The company's signature concept is what it terms "haute blendable" perfumery: a modular system of individual eau de parfum bottles that can be worn alone, layered or blended together. Alongside this, it sells curated collections such as Essentials and Blends, discovery and creation sets, and bespoke services.
Recurring materials across its range include bergamot, incense, iris, tonka, sandalwood and rhubarb. Moeglin has singled out ambroxan, an aroma molecule with musky qualities that she has called "a very expensive molecule," as a signature ingredient used across her work [11]. Named fragrances include Bergamot Incense, Velvet Incense, Iris Carmin and Tonka Extraordinaire.
Sustainability
Experimental Perfume Club is a certified B Corporation, a designation for companies assessed against standards of social and environmental performance, transparency and accountability [3]. The company says it is a member of 1% for the Planet, donating one percent of annual revenue to environmental causes, and works with the carbon-offset organisation Ecologi. It also states that it uses refillable and recyclable packaging and blends to order to reduce waste.
Recognition
The brand has appeared in beauty and lifestyle press since 2017, including Vogue, WWD, Tatler, The Guardian, Harper's Bazaar, Forbes and Allure, much of it tied to the bespoke-fragrance trend and to its London openings. It was named a finalist for Best New Niche Fragrance at the Pure Beauty Global Awards in 2020 and a finalist at the Get The Gloss Beauty Awards in 2024. In 2023 it exhibited at Esxence, the international niche-fragrance fair in Milan [16].
Current status
Experimental Perfume Club is an active company. Its flagship Lab-Boutique, which combines a shop with a working blending lab, opened in 2021 at 53 Monmouth Street in the Seven Dials part of Covent Garden; the brand site and UK company records both list this address, while a Covent Garden directory entry gives a Catherine Street location that may reflect a separate or outdated listing [1][13]. The company maintains direct online sales with worldwide delivery and continued to receive press placements into April 2026 [14].
