Overview
FC Barcelona is a licensed fragrance line built around the Spanish football club of the same name. The football club itself was founded in Barcelona in 1899 and owns the trademark [7], but the scents are created, manufactured and distributed by Air-Val International S.A., a family-owned Spanish fragrance house that operates the line under licence [1]. The range is sold as officially licensed club merchandise, positioned by its operator as a scent that lets fans signal their support for the team.
The line sits in Air-Val's "Sports" category alongside a parallel Real Madrid fragrance, part of a wider portfolio the company builds from licensed entertainment and character properties [3]. It remains an active, currently marketed product.

Origin and operator
The brand's identity draws on two separate companies. The intellectual-property owner is Futbol Club Barcelona, founded on 29 November 1899 by a group of Swiss, Catalan, German and English footballers led by Joan Gamper, and headquartered in Barcelona, Catalonia [7]. The fragrance operator is Air-Val International, founded in Barcelona in 1979 by Francisco García Hernández [2]. Air-Val licenses, manufactures and distributes perfumery products under the names of established international brands, and describes itself as a 45-year-old family business and a leader in children's perfumes, with distribution in more than 90 countries.
Air-Val's brand page does not state when the FC Barcelona line itself launched, and the founding year on record refers to the football club rather than the fragrance.
Products
The current range is built around an Eau de Toilette sold in a 100 ml bottle, extended through gift formats: a zip case pairing the 100 ml Eau de Toilette with a 10 ml perfume pen, a gift set adding a 150 ml body spray, and a toiletry bag combining a 50 ml Eau de Toilette with a 100 ml body spray. Retail listings describe a blue glass bottle carrying the club shield and the name "Barça", and the line is marketed as a men's fragrance [8].
The scent's composition is reported differently depending on the source. Air-Val's own brand page lists a pyramid of cinnamon at the top, pistachio and jasmine at the heart, and vanilla in the base [1]. Some third-party retail listings instead describe Italian lemon and pink pepper over lavender, orange blossom and cardamom [8]. The brand page reflects the current Eau de Toilette, while the retail copy appears to describe an earlier formulation or a different release.
Positioning
Air-Val frames the fragrance as "a mixture of youth and elegance that will remind all fans that they support the incredible FCB", echoing the club's official motto, "Més que un Club" (More than a Club) [1]. The company describes its broader approach as designing fragrances around a consumer's age and gender, the attributes of the licensed brand, and current trends, and sums up its values as innovation, know-how, quality and commitment to the consumer. In practice the line functions as licensed sports merchandise aimed at supporters of the club.
Manufacturing and sustainability
The fragrances are produced in Spain, with Air-Val's manufacturing plant in Gavà, near Barcelona, spanning more than 12,000 square metres [2]. Retail packaging is labelled as an officially licensed product made in Spain [9].
Sustainability claims attach to the operator rather than to the FC Barcelona line specifically. Air-Val states that it has held ISO 14001 environmental-management certification since 2004 and completed a SMETA ethical audit in 2024. Its "Air-Val Goes Greener" programme, launched in 2020, is said to have saved more than 625 tonnes of plastic between 2020 and 2024, with a stated goal of saving 200 tonnes a year [4]. The company says eco-design criteria are applied across its products, and its sustainability page makes no claims of vegan, cruelty-free or carbon-neutral status.
Current status
The FC Barcelona fragrance is an active, currently marketed line. Air-Val's brand page lists the product range, the company's sustainability reporting extends into 2024, and the sister Real Madrid line is also actively marketed [4]. The launch year of the line is uncertain: retail and aggregator sources variously date it to 2018 [8] and to 2013 [10], while Air-Val's own page gives no date. The 2018 reference is the more frequently cited and corresponds to the current Eau de Toilette.
