Overview
Focalex is a small line of foot and nail care tinctures consisting of two 10 ml products, Focalex blau and Focalex rot, applied with a brush built into a small glass bottle. Both carry German pharmacy product numbers and are sold over the counter through the German online pharmacy medpex, which names DR. AYPAR GmbH, a family-run cosmetics maker in Memmingen in the Allgäu region of Germany, as the manufacturer [10]. A second, less specific statement on the same retailer's page points to a different producer, so the line's origin is not entirely settled.
The brand keeps a low profile. It has no website or social media presence of its own, and it does not appear on the website or in the online shop of the company identified as its manufacturer. A customer review dated June 2006 shows that Focalex blau was already on sale by then [12], and both tinctures were still listed as in stock in October 2026.
Ownership
Two different producers are named for Focalex, both on the medpex product page for Focalex blau. The retailer's structured product details list DR. AYPAR GmbH as the "Hersteller" (manufacturer), and the same company appears as manufacturer on the Focalex rot page and on the retailer's Focalex brand page [9]. A question-and-answer section further down the blau page instead says the product is made by L. Ensmann of Bühlertal [10]. That passage reads as generic text: it speaks of taking the product, although the tincture is applied to the skin. The second name may refer to an earlier or contract manufacturer, but no source confirms either reading. This article follows the structured manufacturer listing.
DR. AYPAR GmbH says it was founded in 2000, with its seat in Memmingen, to develop and produce cosmetic products [2]. It describes itself as a family business that has grown under the leadership of Dr. Aypar. According to its legal notice, the company is registered at the Memmingen district court, and Dr. Candan Aypar is listed as its shareholder [4].
The company's "About us" page includes a career outline under the heading "Der Weg zur DR.AYPAR GmbH" ("The path to DR.AYPAR GmbH"). It lists chemistry studies at Kiel University from 1977 to 1985, followed by a doctorate in natural sciences there between 1986 and 1989 on isolating natural substances and working out their chemical structure. Studies in environmental toxicology at the same university ran in parallel. From 1991 to 2000 the outline records scientific leadership at a maker of natural remedies, covering research, production, quality assurance and compliance with cosmetics regulation, before the founding of DR. AYPAR GmbH in 2000.
The company's own range, sold under the registered mark DR.AYPAR®, is built around plant ingredients. DR. AYPAR describes cold-pressed plant oils, plant extracts, essential oils and ingredients from renewable raw materials as its basic building blocks [3], and its online shop sells face, hand, foot and body care such as hyaluronic creams, aloe vera gels and rose hand creams. Focalex is not part of that catalogue. The shop's foot care section lists only a foot cream and a foot deodorant spray [7], and none of the company's pages mentions Focalex by name. The company's natural-cosmetics claims, such as being free of petroleum products and animal raw materials, are made for the DR.AYPAR® products and are not stated for Focalex.
History & milestones
No launch date or founding story for the Focalex name has been published. The manufacturer itself dates from 2000, which sets the earliest point at which DR. AYPAR could have produced the line, if the retailer's attribution is correct.
The clearest marker of the brand's age comes from customers. The oldest dated review of Focalex blau on medpex was posted on 12 June 2006, so the tincture was on the market by mid-2006 at the latest [12]. Reviews continued for roughly a decade; the newest dated one is from 7 September 2017. Product instructions on the retailer's page also refer to "Focalex blau N", which suggests that the product has carried a slightly different name or formulation at some point. No source explains the change.
Products & innovation
The line consists of two tinctures in 10 ml glass bottles, each with an integrated brush for applying the liquid to nails and skin. Both are classed by the retailer as freely sold, meaning no prescription is required.
Focalex blau is described by medpex as a refreshing, alcohol-based care solution for feet and nails that helps protect against the spread of athlete's foot and nail fungus. Its listed ingredients are denatured alcohol, a plant-derived oil base (caprylic/capric triglyceride), camphor, clove oil, menthol, thyme oil, eugenol, an aromatic compound, and peppermint oil. The retailer's copy goes further than the care framing: it calls the tincture a special remedy for treating stubborn athlete's foot and nail fungus, "even into the deepest layers of the skin", and its application notes speak of an antifungal nail repair [10]. These are the retailer's descriptions; no clinical data or independent testing of Focalex has been published.
Focalex rot shares the same base and adds cinnamon oil, along with fragrance components including limonene, isoeugenol, citronellol, geraniol and linalool. Medpex presents it as relief for sensitive areas such as the balls of the feet and the nail bed, and as special care for skin under strain from prostheses [11]. The two products sit in different parts of the retailer's catalogue: blau is filed under cosmetics for dry facial skin, an odd fit for a foot product, while rot appears under medical aids and supplies.
No third-party certifications, awards or press coverage of Focalex are documented.
Current status
Focalex remains on sale. On 5 October 2026 both tinctures were listed as immediately available at medpex [10], under the German pharmacy numbers 01391675 (blau) and 01391681 (rot). The brand shows no other public activity: there are no new products, no press coverage and no brand website, and the newest dated customer review is from 2017. Its continued existence is visible mainly through ongoing pharmacy sales of the two original tinctures.
