Overview
Föllinge is a Swedish skincare company founded in 1985 in the village of Föllinge, in the northern region of Jämtland [6]. It makes organic facial care, body care, wellness and sun-protection products from natural raw materials, manufacturing everything in its own factory in the village.
The company remains a small, independently run maker. It celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2025 and used the occasion to announce its first sunscreen series [6].
Origin and founders
Föllinge grew out of a health home. According to the company, it began in 1985 when Lilly Johansson, described as a pioneer in diet and health, ran a hälsohem (health retreat) called Föllingegården in Föllinge [3][6]. A municipal account of the brand's history places its start specifically in the kitchen of that health home [6]. The work with natural and organic raw materials carried out there became the basis for the skincare line.
The brand takes its name from the village itself, a small place in northern Sweden where, the company says, all of its products are still made in its own factory [3].
History and milestones
Ownership passed within the founding circle over time. A 2025 feature by Krokom municipality identifies Ingela Johansson, who joined as a seller in the early 1990s and has been owner since 1998, together with Inger Svensson [6]. In 2008 the company built a new factory of around 2,000 square metres [6].
By the time of its 40-year anniversary in 2025, Föllinge employed about 11 people and sold its products worldwide, both under its own name and through partner and private-label brands [6]. The same year it launched its first sunscreen series [6]. The municipal article notes that logistics are the main practical challenge of operating in Föllinge, with goods picked up only twice a week.
Philosophy and positioning
Föllinge's stated guiding words since the start have been Harmoni, Balans och Skönhet — Harmony, Balance and Beauty. The company sums up its approach with the phrase "not too much, not too little, but just the perfect" (Inte för mycket, inte för lite, utan just det perfekta). It says it still works to the original vision of its founder: to create effective skincare based on pure, organic and non-manipulated raw materials from nature.
Purity is described by the company as a basic principle, with each natural ingredient selected and tested for quality, durability and effectiveness. Many of the raw materials come from the surrounding Nordic landscape, though the company also draws on a network of suppliers worldwide.
Products
The range covers facial care, body care, massage and wellness, and sun protection, alongside a professional line for skin therapists. The products are used in treatments and sold by skin therapists as well as through the company's own web shop [2].
Among its longest-standing items are Carrot Oil, highlighted on the facial-care range as a classic, and the Marigold Ointment. Other named products include the Neroli Face Oil and a Tea Tree Cream, with ingredients such as neroli, tea tree, lavender and orange recurring across the line.
Current status
Föllinge is active. The most recent visible activity in the available sources is the March 2025 anniversary coverage and the announcement of its sunscreen series; the brand also maintains an Instagram presence as @follingesweden [6]. The operation is small and regionally rooted in Jämtland, but sells under its own brand and via private-label partners across multiple markets.
