Overview
For Them is a French niche fragrance brand created in 2024 by Etienne de Swardt, the perfumer-publisher behind Etat Libre d'Orange [11][12]. It builds a line of numbered, gender-neutral scents around a single idea: that fragrance need not be sorted into "for him" or "for her". The name itself points to this, referencing the plural and neutral pronoun "them" [11].
The brand sells directly through its own online store and remains active, with a collection of six fragrances offered across thirteen European markets as of 2026 [1].

Origin & founders
For Them is the work of Etienne de Swardt, who is described as a creator and publisher of French perfumes [10]. Born in Pretoria, South Africa, in 1970 to a South African father and a French mother, de Swardt worked within the perfume industry — including a spell at LVMH developing Givenchy fragrance concepts — before founding Etat Libre d'Orange in Paris in 2006 [10]. That earlier house was conceived as a gallery inviting perfumers to work outside the industry's conventional codes, and For Them extends a similar appetite for breaking category rules into the question of gender.
The newer project launched in 2024. Fragrantica introduced it under the heading "Etienne de Swardt presents FOR THEM: An Ode to Polyamory and Freedom" [12].
Philosophy & positioning
For Them frames itself as a contemporary fragrance brand that, in Fragrantica's words, "integrates a social message into its olfactory creations" [11]. According to the designer profile, the line is designed as non-binary and inclusive, and is meant to celebrate inclusivity, diversity and the freedom of personal relationships [11]. In an accompanying interview, de Swardt described the project as being about "the magic of all love couples" [13].
That positioning is carried through to the products themselves. The fragrances are presented as genderless and minimalist, and — rather than being worn one at a time — they are built to be layered and combined, so that wearers can mix them into new accords [11]. The store frames this invitation with the tagline "Find your number" [1].
Products & innovation
The collection consists of six fragrances identified only by number, from #1 to #6. Each carries a short, deliberately sensory description rather than a conventional notes list: #1 is presented as "a sparkling cologne, excited by yuzu and salty notes", #2 as "the nervousness of white pepper, softened by coconut musk", and #3 as "the floral sweetness of jasmine, embraced by animal leather". The remaining scents draw on materials including saffron and cherry, mint, and a musk paired with pistachio. Across the line, ingredients such as yuzu, jasmine, leather and saffron recur.
The packaging keeps to the minimalist register, and the numbering doubles as the brand's organising concept: customers are nudged to find the number that suits them rather than to shop by gender.
Current status
For Them is active. Its official site — a direct-to-consumer Shopify store — was live in 2026, carrying a 2026 copyright notice and serving thirteen European markets including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands and the Nordic market of Denmark [1]. Several of the six fragrances were listed as sold out at the time the brand was surveyed, which is consistent with a small niche production run rather than a discontinuation of the line.
Beyond the launch coverage and the brand's own store, little independent documentation of For Them exists, reflecting its recent arrival and small scale.
