Overview
Frezyderm is a Greek dermocosmetics company founded in 1986 in Athens by the pharmacist Anastasios Anastasiou [2][12]. It develops, manufactures and sells dermatological skincare aimed at the pharmacy channel, with ranges spanning face, body, sun, oral, baby, hair and intimate care. The company sells through pharmacies in Greece and exports to more than 33 international markets across Europe, the Middle East and Latin America [11]. It remains active, and is now run by the founder's sons, Giannis and Makis Anastasiou [11].
The brand positions itself at the intersection of pharmacy and cosmetics, describing its products as developed to pharmaceutical standards and intended as a reliable resource for dermatologists, pharmacists and physicians rather than a mass-market beauty line.
Origin and founders
Anastasios Anastasiou, a pharmacist, established Frezyderm S.A. in 1986 [2]. According to the company, the venture's main goal was to develop, manufacture and market dermatological products, keep dermatologists informed, and distribute through pharmaceutical wholesale channels. From the outset the firm framed itself as a maker of "safe and effective products of high quality" held to strict pharmaceutical standards, a self-description it still uses.
Leadership has since passed to the founder's two sons. Editorial profiles identify Giannis (also rendered as John) and Makis Anastasiou as the figures now running the company [11].
History and milestones
In 2002 Frezyderm opened a privately owned dermocosmetics plant in Greece, described by the company as an EU-compliant facility with research laboratories, raw-material and finished-product warehousing, and vertical integration of production [2]. The plant also carries out contract and private-label manufacturing for foreign companies serving the European market.
International expansion was formalised in 2015, when Frezyderm established its first overseas subsidiary in London and joined Endeavor, an entrepreneurship network, the same year [11]. By the mid-2010s the company reported operations in more than 33 markets, with localised storefronts spanning Greece, the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, Cyprus, Albania, Colombia, Mexico, Peru and others.
Philosophy and positioning
Frezyderm describes its purpose as making "a decisive difference in the daily lives of many people" by manufacturing quality products that meet strict pharmaceutical standards. The company frames itself as a partner to medical and pharmacy professionals, and states that it has focused on research and development since its founding, staffing the function with pharmacists and chemists. One editorial profile reports that the company reinvests 15% of its annual profits into research and development [11].
Its distribution model is built around pharmacies. The Endeavor Greece profile states that Frezyderm "holds the first place in the skincare market inside pharmacies" in its home country [11]. Third-party coverage has described it as a "globally recognised dermocosmetic brand" combining pharmaceutical expertise with skincare innovation [12].
Products and innovation
The Frezyderm catalogue is organised into dermocosmetic lines for distinct concerns. The AC-Norm range targets oily, acne-prone skin; the Baby Line is marketed as dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested and free of preservatives and parabens; and dedicated lines cover sun care, anti-ageing, oral care and feminine care. Signature anti-ageing products include Dermiox Cream and the Diamond Velvet range, the latter formulated with diamond powder for mature skin.
Sun care is a focus of the company's innovation claims. Frezyderm promotes a proprietary "P.I.P. System Plus" and a "3-in-1 Active Sun Screen" formula that, according to the brand, combines sun protection with hydration and anti-ageing action and guards against UV rays, infrared and visible light. Its Sun Screen Velvet products use a "Second Skin" texture with colour-adaptive pigments. Featured hero ingredients across the ranges include white peony extract, marine-derived glycogen, cotton plant stem cells, retinol and vitamin E.
Manufacturing is carried out under Good Manufacturing Practice rules approved by Greece's National Organization for Medicines and the European Union, and the company holds ISO management-system certifications issued by Lloyd's Register. It also reports research partnerships with European, Greek and international universities through an in-house R&D dermocosmetics department.
Recognition
Frezyderm has been a regular recipient of the Greek Prix De Beauté awards, winning across categories from 2009 onward, including for its Hair-Line (2009), Dermiox Cream (2014) and Sensitive Red Skin line (2015). Internationally, the Beauty Shortlist Awards named its Baby Line best international brand for babies in 2016, and in 2017 its Sun Screen Velvet SPF 50+ won "Best Beauty Breakthrough" [5]. The Endeavor Greece profile states that the company received 41 product distinctions and eight corporate-excellence awards in the years following 2009 [11].
Current status
Frezyderm is an active company. It continues to operate as a Greek market leader in pharmacy skincare, exports to dozens of countries through localised e-commerce sites, and maintains an active main Instagram account. Recent ranges cited in coverage include the Diamond Velvet anti-ageing line and Trahana, an organic wholegrain line for children.
