Summary

Overview

Güldenmoor is a German body-, skin- and haircare brand built around moor (peat), brine and herbal extracts. It is made by Schloss Neuhaus Güldenmoor GmbH, a small family-owned company registered in Bevern, Lower Saxony, and traces its origins to 1948, when its predecessor began making moor and brine bath products for home use in the spa town of Bad Pyrmont [2].

The brand is dormant. Its last dated news item is from 2021, and by October 2026 its website no longer served content and its pharmacy listings had been withdrawn. No insolvency or closure notice is publicly known, so the company's formal status remains unclear.

Origin & founders

The business began in 1948 in Bad Pyrmont as Güldenmoor Hagedorn GmbH & Co. KG [2]. According to the company's own history, its first products were spa and therapeutic cosmetics: moor packs, moor baths and brine baths designed to be used at home rather than at a health resort. These were sold door to door through direct sales, and balms containing moor, brine and herbal extracts followed later. The individual founders are not named in the company's account, and the "Hagedorn" in the original company name is not identified as a person.

History & milestones

At some point after its founding, the company moved from Bad Pyrmont to the castle of George III in Neuhaus im Solling and became Schloss Neuhaus Güldenmoor Hagedorn GmbH. The firm does not give the year of the move. It does say the range widened at the same time, and that men's care and natural women's care products were added in the 1950s, alongside everyday items such as day cream, shampoo and shower gel.

A legal change in the 1980s reshaped the business. The company says an amendment reclassified some of its care and therapeutic cosmetics as medicinal products, after which their production and sale were first reduced and then stopped [2]. It turned instead to food supplements based on medicinal plants, herbs and aromatic oils.

The late 1980s and early 1990s brought further upheaval. Direct sales were abandoned, the company changed owner in 1989, and Detlef Heitmüller was hired as managing director in 1990. In 1993 Heitmüller senior took over the business and renamed it Schloss Neuhaus Güldenmoor GmbH, the name it still carries [2]. The company credits him with perfecting its healing-moor filtration process.

A private-label division was later added, and Henning Heitmüller, Detlef Heitmüller's son, joined as head of sales. From that point, the company says, product development leaned increasingly toward natural cosmetics. In 2019 the company was certified to DIN EN ISO 22716, the international good manufacturing practice guideline for cosmetics [2]. In 2021 it announced a sponsorship of the cycling team DDMC under the line "Güldenmoor – Kraft der Natur" ("the power of nature") [7].

Ownership

Güldenmoor has no outside parent group. The brand belongs to Schloss Neuhaus Güldenmoor GmbH, which describes itself as a small, medium-sized family business and has been run by the Heitmüller family since the 1993 takeover.

Who currently leads the company is stated inconsistently on its own website. The company's history and "About us" pages say Detlef Heitmüller and his wife handed management to their son Henning Heitmüller in 2018, and that Henning's wife, Aydin von und zu Gilsa, joined him in modernising the business [3]. The legal notice on the same website, as it stood in May 2024, still named Detlef Heitmüller as managing director [6]. The discrepancy has not been publicly resolved.

The company's historic seat was the castle in Neuhaus im Solling; its registered address, according to the legal notice, is in Bevern, with the company entered in the commercial register at the Hildesheim district court [6].

Philosophy & positioning

Schloss Neuhaus Güldenmoor presents its cosmetics as close to nature and free of animal testing, combining the traditional use of moor, brine and plant extracts with what it calls current research. Its stated motto is "tradition and modernity". The company says it largely avoids synthetic ingredients, which lets it formulate products "close to" the rules for natural cosmetics [4]. It does not claim natural-cosmetics certification, and no third-party certifications of its products are documented.

On sustainability, the company says it works to modern standards, keeps making production more resource-conserving and tries to source ingredients from partners that act responsibly. All products are developed and made in Germany by the company's own team. Distribution, according to the company, ran exclusively through its own online shop and selected pharmacies [1].

Products & innovation

Moor is the thread running through the range. The company's material describes moor and primordial sea salt (Urmeersalz) as its core raw materials, used in classic external applications such as moor packs, moor baths, brine baths and brine scrubs, supplemented by plant extracts, vitamins and essential oils.

The 2024 homepage refers to eight product lines but names seven: Güldenmoor, Güldensole, Güldenvital, Güldenseife, Güldenbalsam, Salucell and Güldenderm [1]. Earlier pages also listed Femme Clémence, Viscoderm and La vie d'Amelie. The namesake Güldenmoor line included the Moor-Sole Bad (a moor and brine bath), Moor-Pflegebalsam (a moor care balm), Moor-Sole-Packung (a moor and brine pack), a foot bath, a massage balm and moor cushions, including one for the neck. Other lines covered brine shower gel, soaps made with moor, honey, brine or calendula, balms based on goat butter, devil's claw and herbs, a hand cream, and a 36-herb oil (36-Kräuteröl). The Güldenvital line also extended into sauna infusions and massage oils.

Current status

Güldenmoor shows no visible activity after mid-2024. The most recent dated news item on its website is the 2021 cycling sponsorship, and the site's content pages were last publicly archived in May 2024. As of October 2026 the website's homepage returned a server error and its former pages no longer existed. Pharmacy product pages for the 36-herb oil had been removed, and the brand page of the German online pharmacy medpex listed no Güldenmoor products [8].

No insolvency, liquidation or closure notice for Schloss Neuhaus Güldenmoor GmbH is publicly known, so the brand is best described as dormant rather than defunct.
