Overview
HAIRtamin is an American hair-wellness brand built around ingestible hair supplements. It was founded in California by two friends, Leyla Milani and Lilly Ghalichi, who both point to their own experiences of hair loss and thinning as the starting point for the company [2]. Its first product, the vegan capsule supplement Advanced Formula, still sits at the centre of a range that now also includes gummy vitamins, a postnatal formula, shampoo, conditioner, a hair mask, a scalp serum and a co-branded detangling brush.
The brand began as a direct-to-consumer business and moved into retail in 2021, when Ulta Beauty became its first retail partner [11]. It remains active, selling through its own website and through department stores, beauty retailers and online marketplaces. Its supplements have collected industry awards, which the company lists prominently, and have also drawn independent criticism of how their ingredients are dosed [12].
Origin & founders
Milani and Ghalichi came to HAIRtamin as public figures. A 2021 WWD report on the brand described them as TV personalities and entrepreneurs with a combined social media following of around five million across their own and the brand's accounts. Milani had run a hair business before: in 2009 she founded Leyla Milani Hair, a company selling clip-in human hair extensions, and she has also worked as an actress, model and television host [10].
Accounts of what prompted the company differ in detail. According to HAIRtamin's own telling, the two friends shared "a common struggle" with hair loss and thinning, but for different reasons: Milani lost hair after giving birth, while Ghalichi's hair had been damaged by her styling routines [2]. A consumer review blog gives a simpler version, stating that both women experienced significant hair loss after having their children and saw a gap in the market for products aimed at postpartum hair loss [14]. In both versions the founders' answer was the same. Rather than a shampoo or a topical treatment, they started with a daily supplement, Advanced Formula, and that choice still defines the brand.
History & milestones
For its first years HAIRtamin sold directly to consumers online. Its move into physical retail came in January 2021, when WWD reported that Advanced Formula would launch in all Ulta Beauty stores, with the rest of the line available on Ulta's website. By then the range already included gummy vitamins, an immunity supplement and a postnatal supplement. WWD cited industry sources estimating wholesale volume of $8 million to $10 million for the brand's first 12 months at Ulta, and reported that HAIRtamin had more than 700,000 customers in its database and a customer retention rate of 61 percent [11]. Ghalichi told the publication that the pandemic had "really put a focus on a brand like ours," calling it "a really expansive year."
The retail network has since spread beyond a single chain. HAIRtamin names Ulta, Nordstrom, Boots, Harrods, London Drugs, Purish, Healf and iHerb among its stockists, a list that spans the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as well as online marketplaces [7]. By 2026 the company's homepage was describing the brand as "Loved by 1,200,000 customers."
Philosophy & positioning
HAIRtamin's central idea is that hair health begins with nutrition. "We believe true hair health starts inside," the company writes, describing its supplements as a combination of "clean vitamins, minerals, and botanicals" and its approach as "targeted, science-backed nutrition that works naturally with your body." Its stated vision is to make hair health "simple, approachable, and effective" for both women and men. Three values sit beneath that: nourishing from within and beyond, everyday confidence, and a community rooted in the founders' own struggles, which the brand says has "grown into a movement."
Testing and purity are the main notes in its marketing. The homepage carries the tagline "Potent. Trusted. Tested." and calls the products "Clean, Clinical & Credible," adding that they are third-party tested for quality, purity and potency. At the same time, HAIRtamin's own FAQ is measured about what the products can do. It states that they do not cure hair loss but help "promote healthy growth, follicle strength, and reduced thinning," and that results typically appear within 60 to 90 days of continued use [4]. The products carry the standard US dietary-supplement disclaimer that the statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration and that they are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. The company pairs this with a money-back "Happiness Guarantee" for customers who try at least a three-month supply.
Products & innovation
Advanced Formula, a one-a-day vegan capsule, is the brand's first product and its best-known. According to the company, its formulas combine 5,000 micrograms of biotin with turmeric, aloe vera, vitamin C, vitamin D3, zinc, selenium, rosemary and superfruits. Gummy Stars offer the same idea as a star-shaped chewable. HAIRtamin MOM is a once-daily postnatal capsule, described in a quote on the brand's press page as containing 35 plant-based ingredients. The company has also moved beyond hair with BLOATamin, a digestive supplement built around herbs and digestive enzymes, and IMMUNEtamin, an immunity formula.
The topical side of the range is built to sit alongside the supplements. It includes the Biotin & Botanicals shampoo, conditioner and Deep Condition & Repair Hair Mask, a Peptide Dry Shampoo, and a scalp serum that press coverage quoted by the brand describes as containing rosemary, tea tree and peppermint oils, saw palmetto and 3 percent Procapil, an ingredient Bazaar described as promoting hair growth. The brand's press page reproduces a line from The Zoe Report saying the serum "claims to increase hair thickness by 121 percent and reduce hair fall by up to 58 percent with consistent use" [3]. HAIRtamin's own results page, by contrast, relies on before-and-after photos submitted by customers rather than on published clinical studies. The range is rounded off by Miracle Brush x HAIRtamin, a co-branded detangling brush sold in several colours.
On ingredients and manufacturing, the company says every product is vegan, non-GMO and PETA-certified cruelty-free, free of gelatin, artificial colours and flavours, preservatives and binders, and made in FDA-certified, cGMP facilities in the United States [4]. Its homepage also states that the products are NSF Contents Certified, a programme covering ingredient testing, label accuracy checks and facility audits, and that the packaging is recyclable.
Recognition & reception
HAIRtamin lists several editorial beauty awards on its website. Its supplements won the NewBeauty Award for Best Hair Supplement in 2022 and again in 2023, and in 2024 the brand added NewBeauty's Best Mask for Thinning Hair, Marie Claire's Best Overall Hair Mask and a win at the Today Show Skin & Hair Awards [1]. Its press page gathers quotes from titles including Allure, Forbes, Bazaar, Cosmopolitan, Byrdie and Us Weekly. Among them are dermatologists quoted by Allure recommending the brand's vitamins and scalp serum, and a Byrdie line praising the idea of a supplement made specifically for postnatal hair issues. These quotations are selected and presented by the brand itself.
Independent assessment has been less favourable. A review by Illuminate Labs, a commercial supplement-review company, last updated in November 2025 and medically reviewed by Brian Moore, MD, examined Advanced Formula and the gummies in detail [12]. It considered only one of Advanced Formula's 22 active ingredients, zinc, to be effectively dosed, and said it could not identify any ingredient in the formula's 242-milligram proprietary herbal blend that had been studied for hair growth. It also flagged the added sugars glucose syrup and sucrose in the gummies, and concluded: "We do not currently recommend Hairtamin." The verdict sits in contrast to brand-quoted press describing the formulas as containing "up to 22 clean, clinically-studied, bioavailable ingredients" [3].
