Overview
Huxley is a South Korean skincare brand built around a single hero ingredient: prickly pear cactus seed oil sourced from the Moroccan Sahara. It belongs to the minimalist wing of K-beauty, positioning a deliberately small range against the elaborate multi-step routines the category is known for. The brand is operated by Nordmason Co., Ltd., a Seoul company that has been listed on Korea's KONEX market since December 2019 [4].
The launch date is recorded slightly differently across sources. Korean Wikipedia, drawing on the parent company's corporate disclosures, dates the Huxley brand launch to December 2015 [4]; several editorial accounts instead place it in 2016, the first full operating year, or refer to a 2017 international rollout [5]. Editorial coverage names Byung Hoon Lee — also rendered Hoon Lee — as the founder, a former Samsung employee [7], while Korean Wikipedia lists Gu Ja-poong (also written Koo Ja-pung) as the current chief executive of Nordmason [4]. The two may reflect a change of leadership, or a distinction between the brand's creator and the parent company's executive.

Origin & founders
The name is a tribute to the writer Aldous Huxley. According to founder Byung Hoon Lee, it reflects an idea drawn from the author: that in a future saturated with information, it becomes hard to tell what is true from what is false [7]. The company frames its products as an answer to that overload, paring skincare back to essentials rather than chasing trends.
The brand traces its origin to a trip to the Moroccan desert, where, the company says, its founders encountered the prickly pear seed oil used by Berber women to keep their skin healthy in extreme desert conditions. That ingredient became the foundation of the line. Huxley describes its sourcing philosophy in expansive terms, saying it is "never afraid of extreme environments – the highest mountains, deepest seas, the most severe deserts – to find ingredients."
Ownership
Huxley is the principal brand of Nordmason Co., Ltd. (노드메이슨), a stock corporation established on 21 August 2013 and headquartered in Mapo-gu, Seoul. Nordmason listed on KONEX — a Korean exchange board for smaller enterprises — on 6 December 2019. The company reported revenue of roughly 17.5 billion KRW for the 2024 financial year and employs around 30 people [4]. A subsidiary, Third Mason Co. (서드메이슨), is also recorded.
Philosophy & positioning
Huxley's positioning rests on a "less is more" idea, which the company connects directly to its namesake author. Where much of K-beauty is associated with long, layered regimens, the market-research firm Mintel noted that Huxley "embodies simplicity in its routine," appealing to consumers drawn to a pared-back approach. The range is intentionally narrow — editorial coverage has described a curated selection of fewer than 30 products.
This single-ingredient focus is also a noted vulnerability. Mintel observed that consumers "may gradually lose interest in the Huxley brand story when the next 'cool' ingredient emerges," a risk inherent in building an identity around one raw material.
Products & innovation
The brand's signature ingredient, prickly pear cactus seed oil, is hand-selected and cold-pressed in Morocco, according to Mintel. The oil is unusually labour-intensive to produce; one editorial account states that about a million seeds are needed to yield a single litre. Marketing materials describe it as rich in vitamin E and linoleic acid, and a distributor quoted by AnOther Magazine characterised the vitamin E as an antioxidant that helps protect skin against free-radical damage [7]. Supporting ingredients across the range include yerba mate leaf, birch sap, hyaluronic acid and centella asiatica.
Among its better-known products are the Oil Essence, marketed as a non-greasy oil-and-essence hybrid; the Anti-Gravity Cream, which the brand says contains 51% Sahara prickly pear cactus extract [5]; and a dual-chamber sheet mask that mixes oil and essence when the pouch is folded [7]. The line extends beyond facial skincare into body care, including the Moroccan Gardener trio of wash, lotion and oil. On its Korean site, a newer BioSIS ampoule and cream line currently features among the most-searched products. Beyond skincare, Nordmason's product scope also covers scented candles and solid perfumes [10].
Sustainability
Huxley holds ECOCERT certification, a third-party standard for organic and fair-trade ingredients. Citing that certification, the cruelty-free reference site Cruelty Free Soul reports that the brand avoids petrochemical ingredients such as parabens, phenoxyethanol and synthetic colorants, and that its formulas use organic plant ingredients at high concentration [9]. The company also describes its Moroccan prickly pear oil as hand-selected and cold-pressed to fair-trade standards.
Controversies
Huxley is not certified cruelty-free or vegan. Cruelty Free Soul reported in 2025 that the brand sells in mainland China, where animal testing of imported cosmetics has been required by law, and noted that Huxley's own FAQ states it "conducts animal testing when required by law" [9]. Although its products are described as containing no animal-derived ingredients, the site does not classify the brand as vegan on those grounds.
Current status
Huxley is active. Its parent, Nordmason, remains listed on KONEX, with the most recent published financials covering the 2024 financial year. The company reports distribution across several markets including Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Russia and Finland [4], and the brand has also been carried by retailers such as Harvey Nichols and the UK distributor TONIC15 [7]. The continued promotion of the newer BioSIS line suggests ongoing product development.
