Summary

Overview

HWARANG' is a Korean-beauty (K-beauty) skincare brand headquartered in Helsinki, Finland, and owned by the Finnish company Baestyle Oy [20]. It was created by Baestyle, a Nordic importer and distributor of Korean cosmetics, as the company's own product line after years of bringing other Korean brands to European customers. Most sources place its launch in 2023 [18], though its first product reached the market in early 2024 [24]. The brand pairs hanbang — traditional Korean herbal medicine — with modern Korean formulation, and its products are manufactured in Korea even though the company itself is Finnish [12].

The name draws on the historical Hwarang, an elite corps of young nobles in the ancient Korean kingdom of Silla. According to the company, "Hwarang literally means flowering knights," and the brand frames its skincare around the ideas of strength, beauty and confidence that it associates with these figures. The full Korean name 화랑품 (hwarangpoom) joins "Hwarang" with "poom" (品), meaning goods.

Origin and positioning

Baestyle Oy grew out of the Yeppo & Soonsoo K-beauty retail business and built its reputation distributing Korean cosmetics across the Nordics. According to Baestyle, after success importing other labels the company decided to develop a skincare brand of its own, which became HWARANG'. The line is presented as a bridge between heritage and innovation: the company says it combines "ancestral hanbang secrets with the newest Korean innovations."

That Finnish corporate origin sits in tension with how the brand is sometimes described. Its own retailer Yeppo states the brand was "Born in Finland" [22], and editorial coverage identifies it as a Finland-based K-beauty firm [12]. At least one review instead lists its country of origin as South Korea [15], conflating the Korean manufacturing and product styling with the company's actual base. The packet treats Finland as the brand's home, with manufacturing in Korea.

Philosophy and voice

HWARANG' organises its positioning around three stated pillars — Beautiful, Strong and Confident — and the tagline "A brave brand that makes your skin stronger." Its central idea is summarised by the Korean phrase 영육일치 (young-yook-il-chi), which the brand renders as "within a beautiful body, rests a beautiful soul." Drawing on the legend that Hwarang warriors used hanbang extracts and oils in bathing rituals, the company frames barrier-focused skincare as a form of personal strength rather than a cosmetic routine. Editorial and retail descriptions echo this, presenting the brand as suited to people who want simplified, barrier-first routines, particularly for sensitive or dehydrated skin.

Products and ingredients

The range is small and skincare-led, built largely around a Bellflower line. Bellflower (Platycodon grandiflorus, known in Korean as doraji) is the brand's signature botanical, supported by ingredients such as panthenol, ceramides and guaiazulene. Frequently cited products include the Bellflower Cleansing Balm — described as the brand's first product — along with a Bellflower Moisturizing Barrier Cream and Bellflower day and night patches. A separate Peony Grinding Cleansing Balm uses peony, ginseng and licorice extracts and a "grinding mechanism" dispenser that, the company says, lets users grind only what they need for each wash. A small lip-care range includes the Yuja Sweet Lip Volumizer and the Omija Glow Lip Mask, the latter drawing on omija (schisandra) and glutathione.

Across its product pages the brand describes its formulas as cruelty-free, vegan and fragrance-free, and states that products are CPNP registered and tested for safety in the European Union. For the Peony cleansing balm it highlights a refillable format with packaging it says is made from "100% recyclable PP material." On colour cosmetics, the company says the tints derive their hue entirely from botanical sources such as sea buckthorn and pomegranate rather than artificial colourants.

Distribution

HWARANG' does not sell directly from its own website. As its shipping policy states, "We don't currently offer shipping via Hwarang' website," and the brand instead relies on retail partners for fulfilment. It lists distribution through Korean and European retailers — among them Yeppo & Soonsoo, Sokos, Åhlens, Stockmann, Müller, MiiN Cosmetics, Skin Cupid and Lyko — with physical and online availability across several European markets and Korea.

Ownership

The brand's parent and owner is Baestyle Oy, registered in Helsinki and active in K-beauty distribution since the 2010s [20]. In 2025 the Nordic investor Rite Ventures took a stake in Baestyle, which it describes as a leading Nordic importer and distributor of K-beauty products that also runs its own line, HWARANG' [14].

Recognition

Third-party coverage of HWARANG' is limited and concentrated in niche K-beauty media and retailer pages. The Bellflower line has been reviewed by the blog The Wagamama Diaries, which also notes a feature in ELLE Korea and a collaboration with the Moomin characters [15]. The brand's Korean-manufacturing stance was discussed in an editorial feature by The Trailblazer on K-beauty authenticity [12]. No coverage from major international beauty publications was identified.

Current status

The brand is active. It maintains an online product range and a social-media presence on Instagram and TikTok, with promotional activity recorded into 2025 [25], and its parent company received new investment the same year [14].
