Overview
INIKA Organic is an Australian cosmetics company founded in 2006, specialising in certified-organic makeup and skincare built around mineral and botanical formulations. The brand is owned by Total Beauty Network (TBN) and remains active, selling across more than 35 countries through its own online store and a network of stockists [9][10]. Its name is drawn from Sanskrit, where, according to the company, INIKA means "small earth" [9].
The brand positions itself as one of the most heavily certified beauty companies in the world, and in 2022 it began marketing itself as the first major makeup brand to be certified plastic neutral [10]. That environmental claim, alongside a strict "100% natural" ingredient policy, sits at the centre of how INIKA presents itself.
Origin and founders
INIKA was founded in Australia in 2006 on the idea that, as the company puts it, "what you put on your skin should be as pure as what you put in your body" [2]. The brand's own story page describes it as Australian-owned and made, but does not name the people behind it.
Editorial sources fill that gap, though not without some disagreement. Two independent profiles — an interview in Parvati Magazine and a trade article in SPA+CLINIC — identify Tony Rechtman as founder, with his partner Sharon Rechtman named as co-founder; both describe the pair spotting "a large gap in the market for cosmetics that were both high-quality and ethically produced" after Tony had worked for several multinationals in the United States [9][10]. A separate, uncited search reference instead attributes the founding to a Miranda Bond; because that attribution could not be traced to a verifiable source while the Rechtman account appears in multiple corroborating profiles, the latter is the better-supported version. Rechtman is also described as founder and chief executive of Total Beauty Network, the parent company behind the brand.
Ownership
INIKA Organic is owned by Total Beauty Network (TBN), an Australian company led by Tony Rechtman. No acquisitions or ownership changes are documented in the available sources, and the brand is described throughout as Australian-owned and made.
Philosophy and positioning
The company organises its identity around three pillars it labels Pure Product, Pure Performance and Pure Planet, summarised in the line "beauty should never ask you to compromise." In practice this translates into a "100% natural, 0% synthetics" ingredient stance: the brand says its formulas exclude more than 20,000 synthetic ingredients, among them parabens, petrochemicals and mineral oils, silicones, talc and synthetic fragrances. INIKA describes its products as certified organic, vegan, cruelty-free and ethically sourced, and presents itself in its own marketing as the "highest certified beauty brand worldwide" — a self-description rather than an independently verified ranking.
Editorial coverage places INIKA in the premium end of the organic-makeup market and ties it to the clean-beauty and natural-makeup movements, appealing to buyers who prioritise ingredient integrity over heavy coverage. One niche review noted that the brand stands out partly because "there are very few brands who still make all natural and organic makeup."
Products and innovation
INIKA's range spans makeup and skincare, with foundation a clear anchor. Its best-reviewed lines include the Loose Mineral Foundation SPF 25, the Liquid Foundation, a Serum Foundation marketed as "As Seen in Vogue," and a BB Cream. In the skincare and colour ranges it sells sunscreens, cleansers, moisturisers, serums and masks alongside mascara, eyeliner, lipstick and blush. The formulations are built on what the company describes as pure minerals and botanical extracts combined with "advanced natural science."
A recurring standout is the Long Lash Mascara, described in one editorial review as a hero product and "one of the best organic mascaras available." The same review highlighted INIKA's BB Cream as unusual, noting that good organic options in that category are scarce.
On certifications, the brand lists eight: COSMOS Organic, COSMOS Natural, OFC Certified, Cruelty-Free, Vegan, Reef-Friendly, Halal and Certified Organic. Of these, COSMOS is the formal organic-cosmetics standard; the company states the rest provide "independent verification of our ingredients, formulations, and brand standards."
Sustainability
Environmental positioning is central to the brand. From 1 April 2022, INIKA said it would become "the first major makeup offering to be certified 100 per cent Plastic Neutral," certified by Waste Revolution, and debuted a plastic-neutral collection across 35 countries [10]. Being plastic neutral, the company explains, means it funds the collection and recycling of a quantity of plastic equivalent to what it uses, working with the collection partner CleanHub on projects across India and Indonesia.
The brand reports cutting its use of virgin plastic by more than 84 per cent — from 8.1 tonnes to 1.3 tonnes a year — and says its packaging is now made from 90 per cent sustainable and reused materials, including recyclable aluminium, glass, post-consumer recycled plastics and sugarcane-derived materials [4]. The "world's first plastic-neutral makeup brand" framing is INIKA's own marketing language, repeated in trade coverage rather than independently audited.
Recognition
INIKA states it has received more than 200 international awards across makeup, skincare and beauty innovation; most are displayed as badges in a carousel on its awards page rather than itemised in text. Among the named honours are a Marie Claire UK Skin Awards win in 2023, Gold at both the Global Makeup Awards and the Green Global Beauty Awards in 2025, a 2026 win at The Beauty Shortlist Awards, and a 2026 Veggie Awards Gold for the Long Lash Mascara [6]. The founder, Tony Rechtman, was also profiled by the trade title CosmeticsDesign in a 2020 indie-beauty feature [11].
Current status
INIKA Organic is active. Its e-commerce site is fully operational, it continues to sell internationally across more than 35 countries, and its awards page lists wins dated as recently as 2026, indicating ongoing commercial activity.
