Overview
Jeanne Arthes is a French fragrance house based in Grasse, the southern French town long associated with the perfume trade. It was founded there in 1978 [1], and its stated aim from the start was to make French perfume developed entirely in Grasse available at affordable prices. The brand takes its name from Marie-Jeanne Combredet, one of its founders, and today forms part of the family-owned Groupe Arthes alongside the sister labels Jeanne en Provence and SKIL [2].
The house remains active. It carries a catalogue of roughly 200 fragrances for women and men, plus a smaller line of cosmetics, and continued to release new collections through 2025 and into 2026 [3].

Origin & founders
Accounts of who founded the brand differ slightly. The specialist fragrance blog Miniatures de Parfum records that Jeanne Arthes was created in 1978 in Grasse by two perfumery professionals, Marie-Jeanne Combredet and Bernard Perrin [4]. A profile by the local industry association Grasse Expertise names only Bernard Perrin as the founder, though it does so when describing the wider Groupe Arthes [5]. The two-founder version is the more specific to the brand itself: it was Combredet's first name, Jeanne, that the company adopted.
What both sources agree on is the setting and the intent. Grasse describes itself as the historic birthplace of French perfumery, and the company positioned itself there deliberately. According to Miniatures de Parfum, the objective in founding the firm was to offer high-quality French perfumes, developed entirely in Grasse, at prices ordinary buyers could afford.
History & milestones
Much of the brand's early growth came through France's large grocery retailers. A distribution partnership with Auchan began in 1998, followed by Leclerc in 1999 and Magasin U in 2000; Carrefour added the line in 2009 [4]. This route placed Jeanne Arthes on mass-market shelves rather than in dedicated perfumeries, consistent with its accessible-pricing aim.
The catalogue expanded steadily over the same period. Sultane and Amore Mio both appeared in 2001, and Love Generation Pink in 2007 began the Love Generation collection. In 2012 the parent company launched the sister brand Jeanne en Provence, built around scents and body care inspired by the Provence region [4].
More recently, in 2025 the house introduced its Collection Privée, a set of six unisex eau de parfums — Black Jewel, Deep Sea, Havana Moon, Morning Flower, Red Light and Tangerine Dream — which the company presents as accessible niche perfumery [6].
Ownership
Jeanne Arthes is one of three proprietary brands owned by Groupe Arthes, a perfume and cosmetics manufacturer headquartered in Grasse and established, like the brand, in 1978 [7]. The other two are Jeanne en Provence and SKIL, the latter described by the group as a younger, inclusive label. The company is family-owned and has been run across two generations; Thibaud Perrin serves as its president [8].
The group operates as a vertically integrated manufacturer, handling creation, formulation, production and packaging in-house, and also runs a private-label division producing perfumes and cosmetics for other companies. By its own account, Groupe Arthes distributes its three brands in more than 120 countries and through over 7,000 points of sale in France [3]. Industry directory Cosmed lists the company at its Grasse industrial-park address with around 135 staff.
Philosophy & positioning
The brand's positioning centres on making French perfumery widely accessible without abandoning its Grasse credentials. Under the line "A Passion for Perfume," the company says its fragrances combine French savoir-faire and elegance with current market trends, made in what it calls the purest Grasse tradition and, in some cases, in collaboration with established perfume houses. Its own website sums up the proposition more plainly, offering "French perfumes" through direct online sale.
Groupe Arthes frames the same idea at group level, listing among its commitments making perfume accessible without compromising on quality and promoting French, Grasse-made products [5]. The brand's described audience is broad: glamorous, design-led collections aimed, in the words of one collector profile, at women and men with distinguished tastes, with more than 75% of production exported.
Products & innovation
Jeanne Arthes is built almost entirely around fragrance, organised into numerous collections and scent families covering floral, woody, fresh, fruity, oriental and other styles, with related lines such as deodorants and gift sets. Among its recurring names are Boum, a floral-fruity scent for women; Sultane, an oriental floral from 2001; Amore Mio; Cassandra; and the Love Generation range. The catalogue also extends to men's lines including Colonial Club and La Voile Rouge.
The brand and its parent emphasise that products are created and produced in Grasse, in what the group calls the pure French tradition. Groupe Arthes also points to a stated CSR approach covering the naturalness of its formulas, employee well-being and a quality and good-manufacturing-practice framework, and notes its participation in the regional CEDRE energy-efficiency programme. No formal third-party certifications such as Ecocert or B Corp are claimed by either the brand or the group.
Current status
Jeanne Arthes is an active brand. Its most recent visible activity includes the 2025 Collection Privée and further releases announced for 2026, among them Lover in Dark, Cassandra Dark Blossom and Amore Mio Gold N' Roses [9]. Backed by a parent group with international distribution and large-scale Grasse production, the brand continues to operate within the mass-market and accessible-niche fragrance segments.
