Summary

Overview

JOVS is a Chinese beauty-technology company that makes at-home skincare and hair-removal devices, including IPL hair removers, LED and laser light-therapy masks, and photofacial tools. The brand sells directly to consumers through regional storefronts for the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and India, and positions itself around a single idea: bringing the kind of results usually associated with a clinic into a device people can use at home. Its name is presented as an acronym for "Joyful, Optimal, Vibrant, Self-Care."

The company traces its beginnings to 2018, when, according to its own account, a founder named Jack identified gaps in the IPL hair-removal devices then on the market [8]. A corporate database lists the founding year as 2015 instead, which may reflect an earlier entity registration rather than the launch of the consumer brand [11]. JOVS remains active across multiple regions; its European storefront was still publishing new content in April 2026 [4].

Origin and founders

By the brand's telling, JOVS began in 2018 with a founder identified only by the first name Jack, who felt that existing at-home IPL hair-removal devices fell short [8]. No surname is disclosed on the company's own pages. The dating is not entirely settled: the corporate-intelligence service CB Insights records a founding year of 2015 [11], a discrepancy the company does not address and which may stem from an earlier business registration predating the product line.

The legal entity behind the European storefront is identified on the company's contact page as Hongkong Xuyuan Trading Limited [5]. JOVS describes itself as a pioneer in combining hair removal with skincare technology, an approach it frames as helping to establish the "beauty tech" device category.

History and milestones

The brand's first product arrived in 2019 with the VenusPro, a home IPL ("HIPL") hair-removal device. JOVS describes it as the first device to bring together hair removal and skincare in one tool, and says it went on to become one of the top-selling IPL hair removers in Europe, North America, Korea and Japan, with more than 800,000 units sold worldwide [9]. The same year, the device won a Red Dot Design Award, which the company characterises as the first such recognition for a hair-removal product.

In the years that followed, JOVS expanded into a broader range of light-based skincare devices and opened dedicated storefronts for several markets. The company states it has a presence in the United States, China, Japan, Singapore and Italy.

Ownership

JOVS appears to operate independently, with no parent company identified in the sources. CB Insights reports that the company has raised approximately $30.81 million in funding, reaching a Series A–II stage, with Orchid Asia Group Management and Jinding Capital named among its investors [11].

Philosophy and positioning

JOVS presents itself as a beauty-technology brand built on merging advanced devices with everyday skincare, summed up in the tagline "Be Pro, Be Simple." The company frames its mission as pushing "the boundaries of personal care by merging cutting-edge technology with advanced skincare," and describes its purpose as delivering "simple experiences based on complex expertise." It lists three stated commitments: to innovation, to "changing things for the better," and to "kindness and decency."

The brand is positioned at the premium end of the at-home beauty-device market, with a signature lineup that ranges from an LED neck-and-chest mask through a DPL photofacial device to a full-spectrum LED light-therapy sleeping mat.

Products and innovation

JOVS organises its range around several light-based technologies: red-light therapy, EMS/TENS therapy, IPL and BBL hair removal, and DPL laser therapy. Its best-known product remains the Venus Pro / Venus Pro II IPL hair-removal device, the line the company built its reputation on [9].

More recently, the 4D Laser Light Therapy Mask has become a flagship. The company markets it as "The World's 1st & ONLY FDA-Cleared laser therapy mask," attributing that distinction to FDA data as of May 2025 [3]. According to JOVS, the mask uses a patented chip to deliver what it calls Focus Photothermal Therapy, focusing light to an angle of under 20 degrees to raise energy density, and combines 140 VCSEL laser chips across four wavelengths (660, 850, 940 and 1064 nanometres). The company claims a power output of 143 mW/cm² — compared with under 20 mW/cm² for standard LEDs — and describes the device as six to eight times more efficient than LED technology [3]. JOVS says it holds more than 200 self-developed patents in beauty devices and that its products carry regulatory clearances in several countries, including the United States (FDA), Korea (KFDA) and China (NMPA) [1].

Recognition and press

The VenusPro's 2019 Red Dot Design Award is the brand's clearest third-party design recognition [12]. JOVS gained wider visibility in 2024 after the actor Jennifer Aniston was photographed using its 4D Laser Light Therapy Mask on Instagram. Hello Magazine covered the moment under the headline "Jennifer Aniston's scary looking face mask is 6x more powerful than LED," and reported claims that the device produces "clinically proven results, reducing the appearance of wrinkles after just 12 hours of use" [10]. The company has also cited recognition from beauty publications including Vogue for the Venus Pro II.
