Summary

Overview

KAHI is a South Korean cosmetics brand launched in 2020 by Korea Tech Co., Ltd. (KoreaTech), a Seoul-area company founded in 2003 as a distributor of everyday and household goods before pivoting into beauty [7]. The brand built its reputation on a single hero product, the Wrinkle Bounce Multi Balm Stick, a portable multipurpose balm that spread through K-dramas, music videos and social media. Its name is drawn from the first and last letters of Hangul, the Korean alphabet — a reference the company likens to "A to Z" in English [2].

KAHI remains active and expanding. KoreaTech reported surpassing 10 million US dollars in KAHI exports between July 2023 and June 2024, with the brand present in 11 countries including the United States and Japan.

Origin & founders

KoreaTech was established in 2003 and operated for years across beauty, wellness, medical devices and everyday goods before creating its own cosmetics line [8]. The company's founder and chief executive, Lee Dong-yeol, has said the idea for KAHI came from direct contact with shoppers: "Meeting customers face-to-face, I realized their biggest concerns were about basic skincare" [7]. The brand launched in 2020.

The name encodes the brand's intended positioning. According to KoreaTech, just as Hangul was designed to be easy for anyone to learn, KAHI aims to make beauty simple and achievable for everyone — the "A to Z" framing the company uses to describe complete, uncomplicated skincare [2].

Products & innovation

KAHI organizes its catalogue into balm sticks, skincare and makeup, but the balm-stick format is its signature. The Wrinkle Bounce Multi Balm Stick is a solid, twist-up stick marketed for use on lips, under-eyes, cheeks and dry areas such as elbows and hands. The company says the original Multi Balm Stick is carbon-neutral certified and uses a refillable container it developed in response to customer feedback and protected by patent [2].

Several formulation claims recur across the brand's materials. KAHI describes a "144HR Jeju Oil," made from Jeju Island ingredients fermented over 144 hours to improve absorption and hydration, alongside a salmon-derived complex of salmon DNA (PDRN), salmon collagen and salmon proteoglycan that the brand links to skin repair, elasticity and moisture. A later Caviar Balm is built around caviar oil, which KoreaTech says research indicated can help suppress wrinkle formation and support collagen and elastin production.

The brand's central technology claim is FILMEXEL, described as a biofilm that smooths fine lines and refines skin texture and which KAHI states is patented in France and the United States. Accounts of its composition differ: the brand's own site identifies the active components as Doty algae and Tara Spinosa [1], while a Huda Beauty feature describes the same technology as combining Indonesian seaweed and Caesalpinia Spinosa [10] — botanically the same as Tara Spinosa, suggesting the descriptions point to one complex rather than a contradiction.

KAHI states that its balm sticks are dermatologically tested to be hypoallergenic and assessed in vitro as minimal ocular irritants, and that its products are tested by board-certified dermatologists. On its FAQ, the company also describes its range as vegan, free of parabens and sulfates, soy-free and not tested on animals, with formulas crafted in South Korea.

Philosophy & positioning

The brand frames its approach around three stated pillars: "Easy & Effective," "Kind to Skin & Eyes" and "Eco-Conscious." Its mission, as the company puts it, is "inclusive, effortless beauty that's easily accessible to everyone," summarized in the tagline "Discover Your Beautiful Change." KAHI positions itself in a prestige K-beauty tier above drugstore lines but below luxury, and sells through its own website, Olive Young Global, Amazon and TikTok Shop [7].

Recognition & press

KAHI's visibility grew largely through entertainment placements before its later viral phase. The Multi Balm appeared in the Korean dramas The King: Eternal Monarch (2020) and Extraordinary Attorney Woo (2022), and its association with actress Kim Go-eun was strong enough that it became known in Korea as the "Kim Go-eun Multi Balm" [9]. The product was later shown in Doja Cat's 2022 "Vegas" music video and featured in coverage tied to Lil Nas X [10].

The brand's growth figures became part of its story. KAHI's marketing director Jake Yi said searches for the Wrinkle Bounce Multi Balm rose from roughly 100,000 to 12 million within a year, with more than 10 million sticks sold by February 2022 [10]; the company later reported 15 million units sold by 2023 and ranked the Multi Balm number one in Amazon's "Hot New Releases" in North America [9]. The brand entered the United States in November 2021, an announcement that described it as already established in the Asian market [8]. KAHI has been covered by outlets including Bustle, BuzzFeed News, Huda Beauty and Harper's Bazaar Singapore, and the trade press has tracked it despite the absence of a dedicated Wikipedia entry.

Current status

KAHI is active and growing as of 2024. Beyond the export milestone and 11-country footprint reported by KoreaTech, the parent company launched a separate K-beauty platform, Yless, in December 2024, spotlighting independent brands [7]. KAHI continues to sell through its website, Amazon, TikTok Shop and Olive Young Global.
