Overview
KINESSENCES is a professional haircare line made in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, on the Costa Brava in Catalonia, Spain. It is a sub-brand of KIN Cosmetics S.A.U., a family-owned hairdressing-supply manufacturer founded in 1932 [2]. The line itself launched in 2013 as a "free-from" range — formulas built around vegan, naturally derived ingredients and ammonia-free colour — and was relaunched in 2022 with reformulated products [2]. It is sold primarily through salons rather than mass retail, and remains active across the parent company's international markets.
The range spans hair treatments and permanent colour, organised into themed lines for nourishment, colour protection and repair. Its positioning leans on the idea of "Slow Beauty," pairing botanical ingredients with salon ritual; the parent firm describes its broader ethos as "slowing down as a way to live and be happy."
Origin and parent company
KINESSENCES belongs to KIN Cosmetics, which traces its origins to a small workshop in Sant Feliu de Guíxols where founder Gregori Bosacoma dyed leather for the textile trade. As hair colouring spread from France, local hairdressers asked for his help, and through experimentation Bosacoma developed what the company describes as one of the first hair colours in Europe, establishing the business in 1932 [10]. KIN records its first European hair colouring in 1935 and, in 1986, the launch of New Color Glamour, which it lists as its first ammonia-free semi-permanent colour.
The company has remained in the Bosacoma family across four generations and is run from facilities in Sant Feliu de Guíxols (Girona). According to the company, it has more than 90 years of experience and distributes to over 40 countries, manufacturing in its own plant [11]. A regional supplier directory lists export markets including Argentina, Belgium, Colombia, France, Mexico, the Netherlands and the United States [9].
History and milestones
Within the parent company's timeline, KINESSENCES is a relatively recent line. It was introduced in 2013 as a "free-from" range, part of a wider shift in which KIN extended an ammonia-free colour philosophy across its products from 2015. The brand was reworked with a new image around 2021, and the KINESSENCES lines were relaunched with improved formulas in 2022 [2]. The company's history page records a further relaunch of the treatment line in 2025.
Philosophy and positioning
The line is presented as "Slow Beauty" — a deliberate, ingredient-led approach combining plant extracts with cosmetic technology, intended for both salon treatments and home maintenance. KIN frames its "free-from" philosophy around naturalness, sensory experience and professional efficacy, prioritising ammonia-free formulations. The parent company organises its identity around four stated pillars: performance, creativity, sustainability and inclusivity, the last defined as enhancing "natural beauty" rather than concealing imperfections. Its stated promise is simply, "We love hair and hairdressing professionals, and we want to offer you the best."
The salon experience is built into the products. KINESSENCES treatments are sold alongside structured in-salon "ceremonies" — a roughly 15-minute Express format and a longer Deep format — described by the company as well-being rituals for clients.
Products and innovation
The treatment side of KINESSENCES is divided into three themed lines, each anchored by particular botanical oils and extracts. Nourish targets hydration for normal to dry hair, built around argan, macadamia and camellia oils. Antiox is aimed at colour-treated hair, using antioxidant-rich goji and guava extracts to help maintain colour, and includes a 14-in-1 leave-in spray called Nectar. Restore addresses damaged hair with ingredients such as quinoa, baobab and moringa, and includes an Overnight Infusion night serum [8]. Signature products across the lines include an "ultra-concentrated" Nourish oil and the Restore Overnight Infusion.
KINESSENCES Color is an ammonia-free, two-in-one permanent and demi-permanent colour system [7]. The company markets it through what it calls OES+v technology and an infusion it terms "5 Millenary Oils," drawn from oils sourced across five continents [7]. KIN states the colour covers 100% of grey hair on permanent application and up to 70% in a tone-on-tone mode, and offers a range of 67 shades [7].
Sustainability
KINESSENCES is positioned as vegan, with the company stating its formulas use a high percentage of naturally derived ingredients and contain no ingredients of animal origin [7]. KIN reports moving the line to "100% recycled packaging with 88% reduction in plastic" [8]. At the parent level, the company describes sustainability as "a necessary road with no turning back," citing plans for cleaner formulas and more sustainable packaging. As is common for brand-stated environmental claims, these figures are reported by the company rather than independently verified, and the packet lists no third-party certifications for the line.
Current status
KINESSENCES is an active line. It is the flagship treatment and colour range within KIN Cosmetics' professional portfolio, relaunched in 2022 and with its treatment line refreshed again in 2025 [2]. The parent company continues to operate from Sant Feliu de Guíxols and to distribute internationally, and the line is carried in the Nordic markets among others.
