Overview
La Collina Toscana is an Italian niche fragrance line built around the landscapes and village culture of Tuscany. Its earliest perfumes appeared in 2008 and its newest in 2013 [2], and the line operates under Aquacosmetics S.r.l., a Milan-based cosmetics and fragrance company founded in June 2002 [3]. No new fragrances have been documented since the 2013 Tuscany Reserve presentation, and the brand is best described as dormant.
The name translates roughly as "the Tuscan hill," and the line treats that setting as its central theme. Each scent is named after a typical element of Tuscan village geography — a hilltop village ("borgo"), a hillock ("poggio"), a merchants' lodge ("loggia"), a courtyard ("corte"), a fortress ("rocca") or a narrow lane ("vicolo") — framing the collection as a kind of olfactory map of the region.
⚑ Thinner sourcing. The article relies largely on the brand's own statements (T2–T3). Glowpedia is seeking independent sources.
Origin and concept
According to Fragrantica, the line "springs from the history and charm typical of Tuscany hills which maintain their ancient atmosphere and technique of manufacturing perfumes" [2]. Retailers and editorial profiles describe it as drawing on the region's green hills, holm-oak forests, cypress rows and fields of poppies, irises and sunflowers, rendered as eaux de parfum. The founders are not named in the available sources.
The brand positions itself, in the words of editorial coverage of its 2013 launch, as "the global ambassador of the Tuscanian life-style," and it labels its production as "Made in Italy" and specifically "Made in Tuscany" [3]. That emphasis on regional craftsmanship and on the design of the bottles is the line's stated point of difference within niche perfumery.
Products
The collection is fragrance-only. The first wave arrived in 2008 with releases including Iris of the Signory, Poppy of Cliffs, Oblivion Absinth, Hillock Sunflower, Maremma's Tobacco and Belvedere Holm Oak [2]. A second wave followed in 2011 — among them Poggio in Fiore, Rocca della Signoria, Borgo delle Stelle and Loggia dei Mercanti — several created by perfumer Mark Zini [2].
The line's most documented chapter is the Tuscany Reserve collection, presented at the Esxence artistic-perfumery event in Milan in 2013, which introduced Corte Belfiore and Vicolo del Sellaio [3]. Fragrantica catalogues twelve perfumes in total across the 2008–2013 span [2]. Individual compositions reach across oriental, woody, floral and leather styles, with notes ranging from oud, cedarwood and saffron to rose, frangipani and red berries.
Ownership
Editorial and database sources consistently attribute La Collina Toscana to Aquacosmetics S.r.l. of Milan, and the brand appears on Fragrantica's parent-company page for the firm [9]. Aquacosmetics' own current brand portfolio, however, lists eight other lines and does not include La Collina Toscana [1]. The omission is most plausibly explained by the brand's dormancy rather than a change of ownership, since no source records a sale or transfer.
A separate point of confusion is the name itself. An unrelated Italian company, La Collina Toscana SpA, produces food products such as salts and peppers — sold, for example, through Heinemann travel-retail outlets — and is documented as a distinct vegetable-oil and food business [8]. That entity is not connected to the Aquacosmetics perfume line described here.
Recognition
Reception sits chiefly within fragrance-enthusiast circles. On the perfume database Parfumo, the line holds an average rating of about 6.6 out of 10 across 271 ratings and is described there as "an olfactory and artistic jewel" with "a very own and individual signature" [5]. One Parfumo commentary characterised it as "a brand that is not as well-known as it deserves to be." Editorial coverage at Esxence 2013 noted that the line had received recognition for its concept and packaging, though no specific awards are named in the sources.
Current status
La Collina Toscana shows no documented activity since 2013. Its last recorded launches were the Tuscany Reserve fragrances at Esxence Milan that year, and parent company Aquacosmetics omits the line both from its 20th-anniversary coverage in 2022 and from its present brand portfolio [6]. Stock has remained available through some niche-perfumery retailers, but there are no recent signs of new releases or promotion, and the line is best understood as discontinued or in long-term dormancy.
