Summary

Overview

label.m is a British professional haircare brand launched in 2005 as the retail line of the London hairdressing group TONI&GUY. It was created by TONI&GUY founder Toni Mascolo and his daughter Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck, who has served as Global Brand Director, to carry the group's salon and session-styling expertise into a range sold for use in salons and at home [2]. The brand remains active, distributed across thousands of salons internationally, and in June 2026 came under the sole ownership of Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck [8].

Although label.m frequently invokes "almost 60 years of heritage," that lineage belongs to its parent group rather than to the product brand itself: TONI&GUY opened its first salon in Clapham, London, in 1963, while label.m was launched only in 2005 [7][2]. The brand positions itself as a "creatively conscious professional haircare collective" and tests its products through the TONI&GUY International Artistic Team.

Origin and founders

TONI&GUY was founded in 1963 by the brothers Toni and Guy Mascolo and grew into an international chain of hairdressing salons headquartered in London [7]. label.m emerged from that business four decades later. According to the company, the brand was launched in 2005 by Toni Mascolo and Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck and was intended to "inspire and nurture professional stylists' creativity and individuality around the world."

From the outset the brand tied its identity to the salon floor rather than the laboratory. Products are described as being trialled to an exacting standard by the group's Global Artistic Team and selected TONI&GUY salons before release, a positioning the company sums up in the phrase "inspired by salons, not laboratories."

History and milestones

label.m's first decade was shaped by its links to fashion. Its first designer collaboration came in 2010 with Giles Deacon, and the brand later described itself as the only Official Haircare Product of London Fashion Week, supporting more than 150 designers and creating catwalk hair across in excess of thirty seasons in cities including Paris, Milan, London and New York. The brand's Heritage page dates its London Fashion Week partnership to 2013; the trade publication HairNews instead reports the brand as the event's official haircare partner "since 2015," a discrepancy that may reflect the difference between an initial association and a later formalised partnership [2][9].

A series of product launches marked the following years: the Luxury Therapy range in 2011, the Diamond Dust range in 2016, and an expansion in 2018 that added the Cool Blonde, Curl Define and Anti-Frizz ranges. The brand marked its tenth anniversary in 2015 with an on-product design collaboration, and in 2022 it relaunched with a revised product range.

Ownership

For most of its history label.m operated as the haircare brand of the TONI&GUY group, which the Mascolo family founded in 1963. In June 2026 the trade publication BeautyMatter reported a change of ownership across the group: Sacha Mascolo-Tarbuck acquired complete ownership and control of label.m and took majority ownership and full voting control of Toni & Guy [8]. She described the moment as "both a deeply personal and incredibly exciting moment," framing the consolidation as continuity for a brand she had co-founded with her late father.

Philosophy and positioning

label.m presents itself as a professional, salon-led brand built around the TONI&GUY artistic community, which it describes as some 7,000 hairdressing professionals worldwide. The company emphasises "family values and legacy" and frames its products as gender neutral and suitable for all ages. Its stated tagline is "fashion-led with a sustainable soul," and the brand says it aims to empower stylists through creativity and education while helping clients take greater control of their own haircare routines.

The range is organised around a colour-coded, five-step system spanning cleansing, conditioning, care, creating and completing, a structure the brand uses to guide salon and at-home use.

Products and innovation

The brand's product philosophy centres on a concept it calls "biocompatibility," which it positions as going "beyond clean and natural beauty by embracing botanical ingredients and safe synthetics that are proven to work" [4]. According to label.m, its formulas combine naturally derived ingredients with safe synthetics and use "advanced, clinically-tested ingredients blended with balancing botanicals." The company lists ingredient categories including natural plant and fruit extracts, oils and vitamins, and states that its products are free of parabens, gluten, DEA, formaldehyde and artificial colours.

Signature collections introduced over the brand's history include the Luxury Therapy, Diamond Dust and Cool Blonde ranges. The brand reports that its products are used across more than 7,000 salons in 64 countries, including all TONI&GUY salons [9].

Sustainability

label.m describes its environmental approach as a continuing effort, stating that "sustainability is a journey." The company says it offers vegan and sulphate-free ranges and champions cruelty-free products, while noting that the vegan and sulphate-free claims apply to specific ranges rather than the whole line. On packaging, the brand cites "100% recyclable" packaging — qualified with an asterisk — made with 30% post-consumer recycled plastic [3]. No formal third-party certifications, such as Leaping Bunny or Vegan Society accreditation, appear in the captured material.

Recognition

In 2024 label.m reported winning eight Global Green Beauty Awards across its Cleanse and Care ranges, together with a "Best Recycling Packaging" award covering its entire range [9].
