Overview
L'Atelier Parfum is an independent French fragrance house founded in Paris in 2020 by Masha Russac and Mikolaj Pietrzak [3]. The company designs its perfumes in Paris and produces them in Grasse, the historic centre of French perfumery, and builds its range around emotion rather than seasonal trends. It remains active and has grown quickly: by the 2022–2023 fiscal year it reported retail sales of around 10 million euros and a presence in more than 400 stores across over 25 markets [8].
The brand presents itself as a clean, vegan house that gives master perfumers unusual creative freedom, evaluating finished compositions by the feelings they evoke rather than by a commercial brief.

Origin & founders
The two co-founders first met more than a decade before launching the company, while working together in the cosmetics and fragrance industry. They reconnected in Paris and decided to build their own independent label. Editorial accounts place that reunion in 2018, with the brand reaching the market afterward [7]; the company itself, and a 2023 trade interview, give 2020 as the founding year [3][8]. The earlier dates describe the run-up rather than the launch.
From the start the house positioned itself outside the traditional masculine–feminine split in perfume. Russac has said the brand is "not constrained by the traditional masculine/feminine divide", inviting customers to choose a scent by the emotion it carries.
Philosophy & positioning
L'Atelier Parfum sums up its approach with the line "When Emotion becomes Fragrance" and describes its aim as moving people emotionally rather than pleasing a mass market. The company says it sets out to "bottle the invisible. Not trends, not notes. Emotions."
This idea is formalised in what the house calls the Méthode Émotionnelle, or Emotional Method. According to the brand, each fragrance begins with a feeling, moodboard or state of mind rather than a technical specification; a guest master perfumer is then invited to interpret it with creative freedom. Compositions are judged in blind evaluations — "We smell blind. No names. No reputations. Only feelings" — so that they are assessed on effect alone. The company states three core values behind the work: transparency, respect for nature and benevolence.
Products & innovation
The house works with rotating guest perfumers rather than a single in-house nose, a roster that has included Michel Almairac, Sidonie Lancesseur, Alexis Dadier and Clément Marx, among others. Its first seven perfumes were presented as a collection titled Opus 1 – The Secret Garden [9], and the range has since been organised into themed lines such as The Romantic, The Intense, The Natural and The Sensual, alongside ingredient families including woody, floral, fruity and gourmand. Fragrances such as Rose Coup de Foudre and the later Matcha Crème sit within this structure, and the catalogue extends to hair and body mists, scented candles and discovery sets.
The company highlights ingredients chosen for emotional impact, naming Grasse jasmine, Camargue sea salt and Massif Central woods among them, and sources natural materials through Robertet, a family-owned Grasse house it describes as having more than 170 years in perfumery [2].
Sustainability
L'Atelier Parfum markets its formulas as clean and vegan. The company states that its products are 100% vegan and cruelty-free, and that they exclude parabens, PEG, phthalates, silicones, BHT, BHA, EDTA and phenoxyethanol. It says its fragrances contain up to 98% naturally derived ingredients, with local sourcing in France and Europe a stated priority. The brand also reports a partnership with CleanHub to recover 10,000 kg of non-recyclable plastic from Southeast Asia each year, a figure it describes as roughly five times its own footprint [2]. It notes one acknowledged limitation: its pumps and cap inserts still contain plastic.
Recognition & press
The brand has drawn coverage in fragrance and lifestyle press. Marie Claire Australia included it in a 2024 roundup of niche fragrance houses [10], and a 2024 ArabianModa feature framed its expansion as a rapid rise for an independent label [7]. In that feature the company said it had ranked number one with Sephora in Asia [7].
Current status
L'Atelier Parfum is active. It operates three boutiques in France — two in Paris, in the Marais and on the Rue de Rivoli, and one in Lyon — and distributes through retailers including Bloomingdale's, Harvey Nichols and Sephora [8]. In 2024 the company expanded into Shanghai and signalled further openings in the United Kingdom and Dubai [7], and its journal has continued to announce new releases such as Matcha Crème and Sakura Kiss into 2025 and 2026.
