Summary

Overview

Leti is the dermo-cosmetic skincare line of LETI Pharma, an independent, family-owned Spanish biopharmaceutical company headquartered in Barcelona [1]. The business traces its origins to 1919, when Dr. Domingo founded the Laboratorio Experimental de Terapéutica Inmunógena (LETI) as an immunotherapy and allergy laboratory [2]. Over more than a century the company expanded from vaccines and allergy treatments into dermatology, and its skincare products are now sold through pharmacies and dermo-cosmetic retailers across Spain and several other markets.

The skincare brand carried in beauty and pharmacy channels is the output of LETI Pharma's Dermatology business unit, one of three divisions that also cover Allergy and Animal Health. The company remains in active operation, with its dermatological lines distributed across Spanish pharmacy and retail channels and exported to markets in Europe, Latin America and Africa.

Origin and founders

The company began in 1919 in Barcelona, when Dr. Domingo created the Laboratorio Experimental de Terapéutica Inmunógena — abbreviated LETI — as a laboratory devoted to immunotherapy and the study of allergens [2]. From the outset the focus was scientific and medical rather than cosmetic. The original name reflects that purpose: an experimental laboratory for immunogenic therapeutics.

A separate Venezuelan company, Laboratorios Leti (founded 1950 in Guarenas and part of Grupo Leti), shares the same name but is unrelated to the Spanish LETI Pharma described here [11].

History and milestones

LETI's early decades were defined by pharmaceutical firsts. In 1941 its allergy service began manufacturing allergenic extracts for diagnosis and treatment, and in 1946 the company was involved in the first industrial production of penicillin in continental Europe, marketed as Penicillin L-U through a partnership with UQUIFA [2]. In 1960 it produced the first influenza vaccine made in Spain [2].

The move into dermo-cosmetics came later. In 1992 the company established a new allergy plant and research laboratory in Tres Cantos, near Madrid, and created LETI Portugal. The skincare side took shape around the turn of the century: LETI Germany was established in 2000, the same year the LETIAT4 and LETIbalm lines were launched. LETISR followed in 2008 and LETIXer in 2010. In 2013 the company acquired the animal-health business UNIVET, broadening its veterinary division [2].

Ownership

LETI Pharma describes itself as an "independent and family-owned biopharmaceutical research company" [4]. It is structured as a group operating three business units — Allergy, Dermatology and Animal Health — with direct operations in Spain, Germany (offices in Ismaning and Witten) and Portugal (Porto), supported by a network of distributors across Europe, Latin America and Africa. The 2013 purchase of UNIVET added to its animal-health operations [2].

Philosophy and positioning

The dermatology division positions itself, in the company's words, as "experts in the care of skin with specific needs," and states it is "firmly committed to scientific innovation in the field of Dermatology and Dermocosmetics." LETI Pharma frames its products as "specific and effective solutions for skin care, focused on improving people's quality of life," with claimed leadership in atopy, nose and lip repair, sensitive skin with redness, and children's intimate care. At the corporate level the company says it treats health care as a long-term investment, emphasising prevention and early diagnosis alongside treatment. Its stated values are People, Teamwork, Excellence, and Integrity, Fairness and Humility [3].

Products and innovation

The Dermatology unit is organised around several named ranges, each targeting a specific skin concern. LETIAT4 is the brand's range for atopic skin, covering atopic dermatitis and eczema-prone skin across cleansing, repair, sun-protection and intensive-care products, including formats for babies and children. LETISR addresses sensitive skin with facial redness; the company describes its anti-redness mineral cream as clinically tested for that purpose. LETIbalm is a repair line for the nose and lips, while LETIfem covers women's and pediatric intimate care. The brand's products are formulated as dermo-cosmetics intended for sale through pharmacies rather than mass retail.

For the LETIAT4 line, the company reports a study conducted under dermatological and pediatric control in which 84% of subjects reported reduced itching, 79% said the itching sensation disappeared, and all participants reported improved hydration and smoothness [8].

Current status

LETI Pharma is an active, continuously operating company. Founded in 1919, it marked more than a century of operation, and as of 2025 its LETIAT4 and related dermatological lines were actively distributed through Spanish dermo-cosmetic retailers and pharmacy channels [10]. The brand maintains direct operations in Spain, Germany and Portugal alongside distributors on several continents.
