Summary

Overview

Lord is an Egyptian wet-shaving manufacturer based in Alexandria, best known for double-edge safety-razor blades and disposable razors sold under its own name and through private-label arrangements. The brand traces its history to 1930, when the Alexandria Metal Products Company opened what it describes as the first mechanized razor-blade factory in the Middle East [1]. It operates today as part of Lord International Co., and the company remains active, exporting to more than 75 countries.

Although the brand markets blades made from "Swedish steel," this refers to the raw material rather than the brand's nationality; Lord's origins and manufacturing are Egyptian. The company positions itself as one of the larger global producers of wet-shaving products and supplies supermarket chains across Europe and the Americas alongside its branded ranges.

Origin and history

The company dates its founding to 1930 and the Alexandria Metal Products Company [1]. One of its own corporate sites instead traces the modern business to 1978, when Princess Alexandra inaugurated the first stainless-steel razor-blade factory in Egypt and the Middle East [4]; the 1930 date appears consistently in the brand's tagline ("Quality Razors since 1930") and history pages, while 1978 marks a modernization milestone rather than a separate founding.

A turning point came in 1978, when the company formed a joint venture with the British firm Wilkinson Sword, an arrangement the company says upgraded its manufacturing systems, procedures and quality controls. In 1981, as Wilkinson Sword restructured its international operations, the Egyptian business was sold in full and renamed Lord Precision Industries, later expanding as Lord International Co. [4]. Across its history the operation has also been known as Wilkinson Sword Middle East.

Ownership

Following the 1981 sale, the company passed to the Soliman family and today forms part of the Soliman Holding Group [3]. Some third-party retailers render the parent as the "Solomon Holding Group," but this appears to be a misspelling of Soliman, the family named consistently across the company's own and other sources [5].

Philosophy and positioning

Lord frames its identity around decades of razor-making experience, affordable pricing and flexible service. The company summarizes its approach in three pillars it calls sharp shaving, sharp pricing and sharp service — referring respectively to its steel blades, competitive prices and rapid, flexible supply. According to the company, "innovation is the key to progress," a principle it pairs with attention to detail and a focus on customers. It presents itself as a top-five private-label razor manufacturer offering blades "for every type of skin, preference and budget."

Products

Lord designs and manufactures wet-shaving equipment ranging from double-edge safety razors to multi-blade systems, including single, twin and triple-blade disposables. Its double-edge blades are its signature product, sold under the Lord name and through sub-brands. Beyond the Lord label, the company manufactures razors under several brand names, among them ASCO, Big Ben, Shark, Crown, Racer, Silver Star, Rainbow, Blue Sword, Ok and Queen [4]. It also produces blades for supermarket private-label lines across Europe, North America and South America.

Manufacturing is centered at the company's headquarters in the Amreya Free Zone in Alexandria, with a regional sales office in Zeist, the Netherlands.

Recognition

Among traditional wet-shaving enthusiasts, Lord's double-edge blades have a long-standing reputation; the wet-shaving retailer Shave.net describes them as known for their sharpness and quality and as compatible with most double-edge razor heads [5]. The 1978 inauguration of the company's stainless-steel factory by Princess Alexandra, a cousin of Queen Elizabeth II, is cited in the company's own histories as a notable moment.

Current status

Lord is an active manufacturer. Its corporate sites remain live and continue to market a current range of razors and private-label products, and the company describes a workforce of roughly 3,000 to 3,500 employees exporting to more than 75 countries.
