Overview
Maison De L'Asie is a Singaporean perfume house founded by Elizabeth Liau. It sells extrait-strength fragrances grouped into "chapters", each named after an Asian country, and presents itself under the tagline "Perfumes of an Unexpected Asia". L'Officiel Singapore has described it as a Singaporean perfumery house built around storytelling [9], and the company says its perfumes are produced in Grasse, France.
The brand's start date is reported differently. Tatler Asia wrote in 2025 that the brand was launched in 2019 [6], while a profile in The Peak, published in April 2021, referred to its launch "last December", which places the first release in December 2020 [7]. The company's own website gives no founding year. Maison De L'Asie remains active, with new products continuing to appear in its online shop.
Origin & founders
Elizabeth Liau founded the house without formal perfumery training. Tatler Asia describes her as having had no industry contacts and a background in finance and the arts [6]. According to The Peak, she lived in Australia, Dubai, London and Paris from the age of 19 before settling back in Singapore in her 30s. The company's biography notes that she was born in Singapore with Shanghainese, Malay and Dutch Indonesian heritage [2], and that her interest in cinema, music and art shaped the house.
The brand's origin story is personal. The Peak reports that after Liau's mother died in 2018, she found she could express memories and love through scent more easily than through words [7]. The result was Mother x Love, a vanilla, musk and ginger fragrance. "I created this in memory of what she represented to me," Liau told the magazine. The perfume became part of the brand's first release.
History & milestones
The first collection, Chapter One, contained three fragrances, among them Mother x Love. At launch the perfumes were sold through the brand's own website. In its April 2021 profile, The Peak reported that the formulas had been developed together with perfume consultants, that a second chapter was due in June 2021, and that the Singapore department store Tangs was set to carry the line from September 2021. Liau also told the magazine that each chapter comes with a playlist intended to help the wearer "capture the emotion" behind the scents.
The chapter structure has since grown to four. Chapter 01 covers Singapore, Chapter 02 Indonesia, Chapter 03 Thailand and Chapter 04 India, each built around three perfumes. A separate Master Perfumer Collection followed, created with the French perfumer Antoine Lie. Tatler Asia noted in June 2025 that Lie is a name more often associated with European perfume houses [6].
The brand has also expanded abroad. Tatler Asia reported in 2025 that it was "stocked by retailers in Germany, Russia and Italy, as well as the US" [6], including online fragrance boutiques and Neiman Marcus in the United States. In Singapore it was carried at Avenue on 3 in Paragon on Orchard Road. A launch in Japan was covered by Madame Figaro Japan and Fashion Snap, and the house's fragrances were later featured in Harper's BAZAAR Japan.
In October 2024 the perfumes were presented at the Vogue Threads dinner, an event described in a partnership feature published by Vogue Philippines [8].
Philosophy & positioning
Maison De L'Asie frames its perfumes as stories rather than single products. The company describes its range as "a cinematic journey through an unexpected Asia" and uses the line "Every perfume is a movie" to explain the idea. Each collection is treated as a chapter, and each bottle as a scene in it.
According to the house, its aim is to combine the long tradition of French perfume-making with an Asian sensibility. Liau's inspirations, as outlined in the Vogue Philippines feature, range from city life in Thailand to the Indian countryside. The Peak described the company as a luxury fragrance brand in its 2021 headline.
On ingredients, the company says its perfume oils are made by artisans in Grasse from a blend of botanical materials and what it calls "sustainable, lab-crafted synthetics". Tatler Asia likewise reported that each perfume is produced in Grasse, which it described as the historic heart of French perfumery [6]. No third-party certifications are documented, and the company has not published wider sustainability goals.
Products & innovation
The core of the range is the Signature Collection of twelve perfumes across the four chapters:
- Chapter 01: Singapore – Mother X Love, Nanyang and Lost Lovers, described by the brand as a blend of soft florals, musk and leather. - Chapter 02: Indonesia – Bali Ha'i, Les Nuits de Bali and Bois d'Indonesie. - Chapter 03: Thailand – Bangkok 9/9, Rivière Siam and Les Soirs de Siam. - Chapter 04: India – Terre d'Inde, Jardin de l'Inde and God and Moon.
The Vogue Philippines partnership feature named Bali Ha'i, Nanyang and Lost Lovers as the brand's best-selling fragrances [8]. It described Lost Lovers as "a scent capturing the ebb and flow of love and life's encounters".
The Master Perfumer Collection, credited to Antoine Lie, carries the titles Japan and Mongolia. Tatler Asia mentioned Japan-inspired scents including Guns of Sakura, which opens with blackcurrant, green olibanum and metallic notes, and L'Ibasho, built on Turkish rose, Japanese cherry blossom and cherry.
The company says its fragrances are made at an extrait concentration of 35 per cent, meaning a high proportion of perfume oil, and that they are designed to sit close to the skin and unfold slowly rather than project strongly. Beyond perfume, the range includes hair and body perfume mists, room and car sprays, candles, collector boxes for each chapter and sample sets.
Recognition
Mother X Love received a silver award at the GINGER Beauty Awards 2025, according to the brand's press page [4]. The company's homepage also quotes Vogue Philippines as naming Nanyang Extrait de Parfum "Fragrance of the year (Men)" [1]; no year is given for that award.
The house has been the subject of editorial coverage in Tatler Asia, The Peak and L'Officiel Singapore, and its press page lists further features in L'Officiel Monaco and Harper's Bazaar Singapore, along with a "Made in SG" radio interview with Liau on CNA 938.
Current status
Maison De L'Asie is active. As of October 2026 its online shop was trading, with a Master Perfumer Discovery Kit listed among its newest products, and its press page included the GINGER Beauty Awards 2025 result. It operates as a small house with retail partners in several countries alongside its own online store.
