Summary

Overview

Maison Tahité, styled in full as Maison Tahité – Officine Creative Profumi, is an Italian niche perfume house based just outside Rome. It is built around a single idea: a fragrance brand devoted entirely to gourmand notes, the edible-smelling accords of vanilla, cocoa, coffee and similar raw materials. The house works through these ingredients one collection at a time, presenting each as a contemporary reading of a classic perfumery theme.

The brand was founded by Roberto Drago and Daniela Caon, the pair behind the established Italian niche label Laboratorio Olfattivo, and is a registered trademark of the company KAON LAB S.R.L [2]. Sources differ on the year it began: the perfume database Fragrantica dates its earliest fragrance to 2020 [7], while the brand's own concept page carries a 2018 footer [2] — a date that may instead reflect the parent company's registration or the website rather than the first product release. It remains active, with new fragrances issued each year through 2025 [7].

Origin and founders

Maison Tahité grew out of an existing perfumery business. Roberto Drago grew up in Turin, where his family ran a small perfume shop, and worked through the 1980s as a sales representative for the Lancaster Group before becoming general manager at the cosmetics company Orlane, where he met Daniela Caon [3]. The two launched their own distribution company in 2001 and, several years later, the niche brand Laboratorio Olfattivo; Maison Tahité later joined the same portfolio [3].

The concept came from a gap the founders felt was unfilled. "We loved the idea of working on gourmand notes and felt there was a gap in the market: there wasn't a brand that explored only gourmand notes," Drago has said [4]. The name draws on Vanilla tahitensis, a variety of orchid that yields one of the world's most prized vanillas — fitting for a house that opened with vanilla as its first subject.

Ownership and sister brands

The brand is owned by Kaon (KAON LAB S.R.L), an Italian distribution company known for niche fragrance labels [7]. Its best-known sister brand is Laboratorio Olfattivo, founded by the same team; Fragrantica also lists Lucien Ferrero Maître Parfumeur among Kaon's brands [7]. Maison Tahité commissions a rotating group of perfumers rather than working with a single in-house nose. Among the noses credited across its collections are Lucien Ferrero, David Maruitte, Luca Maffei and Paul Guerlain, the last credited with the coffee fragrance I_Ristretto [5].

Philosophy and positioning

The house presents itself, in its own words, as "an ode to the gourmand note," pairing that focus with an emphasis on sustainability and what it calls respect for the environment and the customer's needs [4]. On its concept page the company describes setting out to explore the defining raw materials of the gourmand world and reinterpret them in an original way, framing the work as a celebration of niche perfumery rather than mass production. Talented international perfumers, it says, work under creative director Drago and artistic director Caon to develop each theme.

Products and collections

Maison Tahité organises its output by raw material, releasing a themed set of eaux de parfum at a time. The debut Vanilla collection arrived first, followed by a Cocoa line and then a Coffee collection — among them Café Gourmand, Coffee Bomb, I_Ristretto and Velvet Coffee, described by one fragrance outlet as the house turning "to the most delicious coffee specialities" after vanilla and cocoa [6]. More recent releases extend the range to tonka bean. Across the catalogue the brand counts four eau de parfum collections totalling 23 references, alongside a toiletries line (shower gel, body lotion, scrub and cream) and a small home-fragrance collection of diffusers and sprays.

Packaging is a deliberate part of the brand's identity. The bottles are amber glass with gold caps, which the company links to the look of the pharmaceutical world, and it states that the outer packaging is fully recyclable — recycled cardboard, vegetable-based glue and paper made from almond shells — with a plantable seed card included in every box.

Social initiatives

Beyond its fragrances, the company has launched two social projects. In 2024 it began Progetto Donna in partnership with the Ethiopian non-profit Eco D'Africa Ayanalem Onlus, and in 2025 it introduced RecuperAbile, an initiative focused on the inclusion of people with disabilities [2].

Recognition

As a young house, Maison Tahité has limited press history. It has been profiled by The Perfume Society, an editorial perfume body, and reviewed by the niche-fragrance site CaFleureBon, which covered the I_Ristretto release in 2022 [5].

Current status

Maison Tahité is an active niche house. The most recent activity recorded for it is a set of 2025 fragrance releases, including additions to its tonka theme [7], and it is distributed internationally, including through a UK partner and Nordic retailers.
