Summary

Overview

Mi-rê is a Paris-based Franco-Korean makeup brand founded in 2015 by Elizabeth Trémosa and Miseong Kim [1]. It builds hybrid "makeup-care" products that pair Korean cosmetic technology with a French sensibility, with a refillable BB cushion foundation as its signature item. The company remains independent and active, distributed in around 16 countries [2], with recent press coverage and product launches through late 2025.

The brand name, written Mi-rê, draws on the Korean word for "future" (미래). The company translates it as "beautiful future" [4]; French K-beauty editorial has rendered it more simply as "the future" [5].

Origin & founders

Mi-rê grew out of a meeting between two people from different sides of the cosmetics industry. Elizabeth Trémosa, who has a Mexican-French background, had worked as an export manager for Nuxe and Yves Saint Laurent before setting up a consulting agency to help brands sell into Europe. Miseong Kim, based in South Korea, began her career working for a French cosmetics importer in Korea and later moved into product formulation. According to the industry observatory CosmeticOBS, the two were introduced by a mutual contact from the beauty world after Trémosa mentioned she was looking for a partner; the contact had met Kim at a trade show while queuing for lunch [2].

Their shared idea was to bring the quality of Asian cushion creams to the French market, but with shades adapted to European skin tones [6]. The brand frames this as combining French elegance with Korean expertise.

Most sources date the founding to 2015. The brand's own materials give the year without a month [1], while the founder profile published by EntreprenHer specifies February 2015 [7].

History & milestones

The brand's first signature product, the Bibi Nova cushion foundation, received the Prix Espoir de Beauté Stars from Madame Figaro in 2016, an award that also recognised its refill [5]. From 2019 onward, Mi-rê built a parallel reputation in film and theatre makeup, beginning with work on the film Cuban Network and later describing itself as the first independent makeup brand selected by the Comédie-Française [8].

In 2021 the company was reorganised: Trémosa took sole control of Mi-rê and, the brand says, strengthened its natural and holistic direction [9]. It adopted FSC-certified packaging in 2023. In a November 2025 interview with the business outlet Rapporteuses, Trémosa discussed the company's growth and acknowledged a setback in which a manufacturing problem delayed production by six months and cost the brand the Swiss market [3].

Ownership

Mi-rê has remained independent. After co-founding the brand with Miseong Kim, Elizabeth Trémosa took sole control in 2021. In the 2025 Rapporteuses interview, she described the company as open to strategic investors but only those who would protect its creative autonomy and product quality [3].

Philosophy & positioning

Mi-rê positions itself as a bridge between French elegance and Korean cosmetic expertise, building what it calls hybrid "makeup-care" (maquillage-soin) products that combine cosmetic and skincare benefits in a single step. The founder profile published by EntreprenHer describes this as a "Cure Make-up" concept. The brand presents an inclusive, "pro-age" stance aimed across skin tones, ages and types; in the Rapporteuses interview, Trémosa framed the project as a response to what she saw as a lack of inclusivity in luxury beauty. The company also says it markets through direct partnerships with resellers and selective collaborations rather than large-scale influencer campaigns.

Products & innovation

The range centres on complexion and is sold at a prestige price point. Its flagship is the Bibi Nova cushion foundation, a refillable BB cushion with SPF 50 PA++++ that the brand describes as combining BB cream, concealer, makeup base and a finishing powder in one. Other products include the I Light Rescue concealer-corrector, the Dual Sun-lit bronzer-and-highlighter, the Brow Plume Perfection eyebrow pen and the K-Drama mascara.

The company says its formulas are developed in both French and Korean laboratories and highlights flower-derived hero ingredients such as lotus, belle-de-nuit (the four o'clock flower) and ginseng flower, alongside mineral-rich water from Jeju island. Products are described as dermatologically tested.

Sustainability

Mi-rê presents environmental responsibility as a core commitment. It is a member of the 1% for the Planet collective and moved to FSC-certified packaging in 2023 [9]. Refillability is central to its approach: the Bibi Nova cushion is sold with recyclable refills, and the brand says it has extended the idea to products such as the I Light Rescue concealer. The company also states that it has stopped taking part in Black Friday, and it lists charitable partnerships including the breast-cancer organisation Ruban Rose. Mi-rê describes itself as vegan and cruelty-free; it does not list specific third-party certification bodies for those claims.

Recognition

Beyond the 2016 Madame Figaro award, Mi-rê has been covered by French and French-language K-beauty media, including CosmeticOBS, JUNG Magazine and ChokoMag. The brand's makeup has also been associated with figures from French film and culture, among them Isabelle Huppert and Inès de La Fressange, in connection with its cinema and theatre work.
