The brand built its reputation on affordable formulations centred on a handful of well-known active ingredients, and is most closely associated with snail-mucin skincare and the wider K-beauty movement.

Mizon's name combines "mi" (beauty in Korean) and "zone," referring to specific areas of the skin. The company frames its logo as an open window, a symbol of listening to customers and developing products around their needs.

Mizon dates its founding to 2007, when, according to the company, it set out to make skincare using what it calls cutting-edge technology and high-quality ingredients. The product that anchored the brand was the All in One Snail Repair Cream. Mizon's own narrative ties this cream to the brand's earliest years and to its rise as a consumer favourite [3]; a later company blog post instead gives a launch date of 2011 for the Snail Repair Cream, which may refer to a reformulated version [4].

For much of its first decade Mizon operated largely through retailers and regional distributors rather than a unified global storefront. In 2023 the company launched what it described as its first global English-language website, presented as a way for international customers to buy directly from South Korea. In May 2024 it introduced the six-product Hyalugen collection, and in December 2024 it entered the Indian market through a partnership with the distributor Katalysst [10].

Its products sit at an accessible, drugstore price tier; a Refinery29 reviewer characterised the snail cream as an affordable Korean option that nonetheless delivers a high concentration of snail secretion filtrate [8].

On formulation, the company says it focuses on more natural, organic and vegan products alongside what it calls eco-friendly packaging, and states that its products are dermatologically tested and not tested on animals.
