Summary

Overview

Nestmann is a German maker of homeopathic and herbal natural remedies, based in Zapfendorf near Bamberg in Bavaria. The brand belongs to Nestmann Pharma GmbH, which Heinrich Nestmann founded in 1956 to manufacture a system of homeopathic complex preparations developed by an earlier member of the family. The company has been family-run since its founding and presents its products under the tagline "Nestmann Naturarznei – Spiegel der Natur" ("natural medicine – mirror of nature").

Its core business lies outside cosmetics. The range centres on 127 homeopathic complex preparations, Schüßler salts, plant-based special preparations, dietary supplements, teas and sports nutrition, with a small number of personal-care products alongside, including a witch-hazel ointment, a herbal skin oil and a hair tonic. The company is active, with its own production, a direct online shop and a programme of trade-fair appearances in 2026.

Origin & founders

The company traces its roots to Arthur Klauder, a homeopath whom Nestmann identifies as the great-grandfather of the Nestmann family. According to the company, Klauder's many years in practice and his collection of formulas formed the basis of a homeopathic complex system of 127 preparations that he developed himself. A complex preparation combines several homeopathic ingredients in one remedy instead of relying on a single substance.

Heinrich Nestmann founded Nestmann Pharma GmbH in 1956. The company states that the aim was to produce the preparations of the complex system in larger quantities and so make them available on the pharmaceutical market [2]. The formulas thus predate the company by a generation: what began as one practitioner's working collection became the product base of an industrial manufacturer.

History & milestones

The company's own timeline dates its move to its present site in Zapfendorf to 1960. The same page, however, also states that Nestmann products have been manufactured in Zapfendorf since 1957, so the company's own materials give two different years for the start of production there [2].

In 1962 Nestmann introduced its Spezialpräparate ("special preparations"), which the company describes as selected combinations of active ingredients of mainly plant origin. The next generation took over in 1987, when the pharmacist Burghardt Nestmann assumed leadership of the family business. He is named as managing director in the company's legal notice [3].

The range widened beyond medicines in the 1990s. Nestmann launched its first dietary supplement in 1992, a step the company attributes to the organisational structures and technical expertise built up through its pharmaceutical work. Sports products followed in 2008. According to Nestmann, they were developed together with nutrition scientists and sports physicians to help athletes improve their recovery and performance while staying healthy under heavy physical strain.

In 2014 Florian Nestmann took responsibility for the sports division and continued developing it under the neprosport brand, which has its own website. The social-media channels linked from the Nestmann site belong to neprosport rather than to accounts under the Nestmann name.

Counting from the founding year, 2026 is the company's 70th year. Parts of the company website still refer to "almost 65 years of tradition", wording that dates from several years earlier. A July 2026 article about the US distributor Marco Pharma describes Nestmann as turning 70 that year [7].

Ownership

Nestmann Pharma GmbH is an independent, family-owned company. It says it has been run as a family business from its founding to the present day, and three generations of the family appear in its history: Heinrich Nestmann as founder, Burghardt Nestmann as head of the business since 1987, and Florian Nestmann in charge of the sports line since 2014. The company is entered in the commercial register at the local court in Bamberg, with its legal seat in Zapfendorf [3]. No acquisitions or outside owners are documented.

Marco Pharma, which distributes Nestmann products in the United States, has referred to Nestmann as its "parent". In context the word describes Nestmann's role as the supplier of most of the German formulas in Marco Pharma's catalogue, not a corporate ownership link [7].

Philosophy & positioning

Nestmann presents itself as a producer of natural remedies with a holistic outlook. On its homepage the company argues that deep, lasting recovery always requires treating the cause of the core problem rather than ignoring and removing warning signs. In its view, this calls for an individual, integrative approach that keeps the patient's needs at the centre.

Close contact with therapists is a recurring theme. The company says that exchange with practitioners who treat patients with natural medicine is an integral part of its company philosophy, and that the experience of older and newer generations of therapists has shaped how its remedies are developed and combined. It lists manufacturing within the family business, together with quality and tradition, as further values.

Nestmann also stresses the pairing of long tradition with current manufacturing. According to the company, decades of knowledge about naturopathic therapy meet modern production technology at the Zapfendorf site, and it labels its products "Made in Germany". It states that its preparations are made under strict quality standards in its own GMP- and FDA-certified facility [2]. GMP, or good manufacturing practice, is a set of quality rules for pharmaceutical production; the company does not name the body that certified the site.

The footer of the company website carries the EU organic control-body code DE-ÖKO-006 [1]. On the site, the organic label appears on the algae supplements Nepro-Lina BIO and Nepro-Rella BIO; the company does not describe its skin- and hair-care products as organic.

Products & innovation

The company divides its full range, all of it produced in Zapfendorf, into seven groups: 127 homeopathic complex preparations, 15 special preparations, one injectable preparation, 15 dietary supplements, 12 Schüßler salts in two potencies, six teas and 20 sports products under the neprosport name.

The homeopathic complex system remains the heart of the business. The company describes the Nestmann-Komplexmittelsystem as a way to treat holistically in the naturopathic sense and advises combining the different complex remedies. Nestmann also carries the full set of Schüßler salts, numbers 1 to 12, in the potencies D6 and D12. These mineral salts go back to the physician Heinrich Wilhelm Schüßler, who, as the company puts it, developed the method he called biochemistry more than 120 years ago. Nestmann says it still makes them in the traditional way and that its salts are among the least expensive available.

Personal care is a small side line. The online shop groups a handful of items under the categories "Kosmetikum" and "Pflegeprodukte" [5]. Hamamelis-Salbe, a witch-hazel ointment, is described as care for cracked, brittle and sensitive skin. Hautöl Nestmann is a skin oil with herbal extracts of St John's wort, mullein, dead-nettle and calendula, which the company says cares for and protects the skin. Voluma Haarwasser is a hair tonic marketed for fuller hair and a healthy scalp. The company's online knowledge section has also carried articles on medicinal plants, among them a 2020 portrait of witch hazel by Florian Nestmann that notes the plant's frequent use in both medicines and cosmetic products.

The supplement range includes Nepro-Lina BIO, made from the blue-green microalga Arthrospira platensis, and Nepro-Rella BIO, made from the freshwater alga Chlorella pyrenoidosa, as well as herbal products such as Legana and the Osteoron line. The neprosport products are, according to the company, developed with nutrition scientists and professional athletes. Because doping plays a large role in professional sport, Nestmann says it makes them under strict rules and with several final tests.

Distribution

Nestmann sells through two channels. The special preparations, homeopathic complex preparations and Schüßler salts are designed for use in therapy and are available only through pharmacies [4]. The dietary supplements, sports products and a few other preparations are sold without that restriction and can be bought directly from the company's online shop. The Gelbe Liste, a German directory of pharmaceutical products and manufacturers, lists Nestmann Pharma GmbH as a manufacturer based in Zapfendorf [8].

The company says its medicines are available in more than ten countries, including countries outside Europe [2]. In the United States, Marco Pharma International, a distributor that opened for business in 1991, holds the exclusive American distributorship and sources most of the German formulas in its catalogue from Nestmann [7].

Current status

Nestmann is active. The company runs its own production in Zapfendorf, where it says it employs more than 50 people, and operates a direct online shop. In January 2026 it published a list of the trade fairs and congresses at which it would exhibit during the first half of the year [6], and its website carries a 2026 copyright notice.
