Summary

Overview

NEURODERM is a German skincare line for dry skin and atopic dermatitis, the chronic itchy skin condition known in German as Neurodermitis. It is made and marketed by InfectoPharm Arzneimittel und Consilium GmbH, a family-owned pharmaceutical company based in Heppenheim [2]. The range is sold through pharmacies and is built around a simple idea: everyday moisturising care forms the base of treatment, with stronger products added only as the skin gets worse.

What sets the line apart is its colour-coded structure. Since a 2019 packaging relaunch, each product carries a green, yellow or red stripe that matches a step in a staged treatment plan, from daily care to a prescription cream for acute flare-ups [13]. The care products themselves are sold as cosmetics, while the red step is a prescription drug.

History & milestones

The year NEURODERM was first launched is not documented, and no founders of the line itself are named. The earliest dated document tied to the current range is a mandatory product information sheet marked "Stand: 02/2018", which lists the basic care products and the Repair cream with their full ingredient lists and classifies them as cosmetics [10].

The best-documented milestone came the following year. In February 2019 the German pharmacy trade publication APOTHEKE ADHOC reported that InfectoPharm was redesigning the NEURODERM packs around a traffic-light scheme meant to explain at a glance which product to use when [13]. Under the new design, the basic care products received a green stripe, with lighter green for the cream and lotion and dark green for the richest formula. Products for very dry, increasingly red skin with beginning itch received a yellow stripe. The prescription cream for acute flares, named in the article as Neuroderm Akut 0.1 % cream with hydrocortisone buteprate, received a red one.

The brand's own website still describes the line in these three colours and calls it an inverted traffic light that follows medical treatment guidelines. It also notes that in the new pack design the fat content of each basic care product can be read from its shade of green: the darker the green, the richer the cream.

Ownership

NEURODERM belongs to InfectoPharm Arzneimittel und Consilium GmbH, which is named as the operator of the brand website and as the responsible company on the product documents [2]. The brand is a product line rather than a separate company.

InfectoPharm was founded in 1988 by Monika and Dr. Manfred Zöller, starting from the view that children need medicines made specially for them [12]. The company moved from Weinheim to Heppenheim in 1995 and is now run by the founders' children, in its second generation. By its own account it employs more than 400 people, reports annual revenue of around 250 million euros and has subsidiaries in Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Great Britain and Poland, the last opened in 2025 [12].

Its work spans paediatrics, dermatology, infectious diseases, lung and ear-nose-throat medicine, among other fields. The group also includes Beyvers GmbH, a contract manufacturer in Berlin; Pädia GmbH, which makes pharmacy products for children; and Sonormed GmbH, which works on digital health applications. The 1988 founding date and the Zöller family belong to the parent company, not to the NEURODERM line itself. The slogan "Wissen wirkt." ("Knowledge is Health") on the brand's documents is likewise InfectoPharm's corporate motto rather than a NEURODERM tagline.

Philosophy & positioning

NEURODERM presents itself as a care system for each phase of atopic dermatitis rather than a single cream. According to the brand, regular basic care is the "A und O", the essential foundation, of treatment: sensitive, dry skin should be creamed at least twice a day to restore both moisture and fat, which the company says strengthens the damaged skin barrier over time and can ease itching and flare-ups [3]. It also recommends medical oil baths as a supplement to daily creams.

The brand's patient pages explain a stepped approach in plain terms. The more acute the eczema, the more water and the less fat a cream should contain; dry skin with little inflammation calls for richer products. Flare-ups, the site says, should be treated early with anti-inflammatory drugs to stop the condition from getting worse, even where patients worry about side effects.

The line is aimed at all ages. NEURODERM states that its products suit sensitive baby skin, and its FAQ describes them as suitable for infants and small children. Beyond the products, the website offers a patient guide on living with atopic dermatitis, package inserts, patient flyers and an information poster.

Products & innovation

The green step consists of three basic care products: PflegeLotio, Pflegecreme and Pflegecreme Lipo. They differ mainly in fat content, at 25, 30 and 50 percent respectively, so users can match the texture to the season, skin type and current state of the skin. All three contain 20 percent glycerin, a substance the skin also produces to hold on to water. The company says that at this high concentration glycerin binds moisture particularly well [6].

The formulas differ in their oils. The Pflegecreme is based partly on liquid paraffin, a mineral oil. The PflegeLotio uses avocado oil, while the Pflegecreme Lipo combines beeswax with sweet almond oil.

The yellow step is NEURODERM Repair, an intensive cream for dry, itchy skin where basic care alone is no longer enough. It is applied as needed, alongside basic care, to the most affected areas. Repair has a fat content of 37 percent and, besides 20 percent glycerin, contains lipids that also occur naturally in the skin: ceramides, cholesterol and free fatty acids. These are combined in what the brand calls an optimal 3:1:1 ratio, and NEURODERM states that studies show such a ratio speeds up the repair of the skin barrier [4].

The red step is a prescription cream for acute flares. The current website mentions it only as a prescription cream from the NEURODERM line, without giving its name or active ingredient [5]. The 2019 trade report identified it as Neuroderm Akut 0.1 % cream with the corticosteroid hydrocortisone buteprate.

According to the company, the care products are free from wool wax (lanolin), cetearyl alcohol, parabens, colourants and fragrances, and contain no urea [6]. Some formulas do contain alcohol or PEG-8: Repair lists both, and the PflegeLotio contains PEG-8. No third-party certifications for the line are documented.

Recognition & press

Independent coverage of NEURODERM is limited. The main third-party account is APOTHEKE ADHOC's 2019 trade report on the packaging relaunch, which described how the colour scheme maps the products onto the stepped treatment of atopic dermatitis [13]. No awards are documented.

Current status

NEURODERM is active. Its official website remains live with current product pages, package inserts and ordering codes used by German pharmacies, and the company states that the products are available in pharmacies. The website is in German only and does not link to any social media channels. Apart from the ongoing product information, the most recent dated event in the brand's public history is the 2019 packaging relaunch.
