Summary

Overview

Nikos Sculpture is a Greek fragrance house based in Vouliagmeni, a coastal suburb of Athens. It grew out of the fashion label founded in Paris in 1985 by the Greek designer Nikos Apostolopoulos [7], and today operates as a self-run niche perfume brand selling directly from its own website and a flagship store on Mykonos. The line takes its name and visual language from classical Greek sculpture, which the company describes as the inspiration behind every scent.

The dating of the brand depends on what is being counted. Encyclopedia sources place the origin of the wider Nikos house in 1985, when Apostolopoulos opened his Paris atelier designing men's underwear and swimwear [7]. The Sculpture fragrance line itself, however, did not appear until 1994 [7][9], and it is that line the present-day brand carries forward.

Origin & founders

Nikos Apostolopoulos was born in Patras, Greece, and studied in Paris, earning credentials in political science and international law at the Sorbonne [7]. He moved into fashion in 1985 with a first collection of men's intimate wear, expanding by 1987 into women's intimate apparel, swimwear and ready-to-wear [7]. His early work drew on classical ideals and minimalist design, and he also produced costumes for opera, including Richard Strauss's Salome in 1990 [7].

In 1994 Apostolopoulos entered the fragrance market with Sculpture, a women's perfume built around sandalwood, vanilla, bergamot, orchid and lemon [7]. A men's counterpart, Sculpture Homme, followed in 1995 [10]. The fashion and fragrance house has Greek roots throughout, and its name is now most closely tied to the perfume line rather than the original apparel.

Philosophy & positioning

The company defines itself plainly: "Sculpture is a fragrance house inspired by the vitality and sensuality of Greek sculpture." Each scent, according to the brand, is meant to evoke emotional depth, elegance and introspection, paying tribute to what it calls the eternal beauty of Greek antique sculpture. Creative direction comes from Apostolopoulos himself, and the classical theme runs from the product names through to the marble of the retail spaces.

Fragrances sit at the prestige end of the market, with eaux de parfum generally priced between €50 and €120. The brand sells direct to consumers, and its FAQ states that products are available exclusively through the official website, dispatched from its own fulfilment centre, with sample requests sometimes directed to authorised retailers.

Products & innovation

The current range is built entirely around the Sculpture name. Alongside the original 1994 women's fragrance and the 1995 Sculpture Homme, the line now includes scents such as Sculpture Mykonos, Sea Fever, Voyage en Orient and Le Classique. The most recent addition, Sculpture Vague d'Or, a unisex eau de parfum, launched in 2025 [11]. Product descriptions lean on poetic, mythological imagery, referencing figures such as nymphs and fauns.

A lion, or griffin, symbol serves as the brand's recurring visual mark across both the fragrances and a men's underwear line that carries the Sculpture name.

Retail & architecture

The brand's flagship store sits on Mykonos, at Panachrantou 11–13. Designed by the Athens studio Saint of Athens and completed in 2023, the interior was conceived around the island's marble quarries and built from roughly 3.8 cubic metres of marble drawn from Penteli, the same quarry that supplied the Parthenon [8]. The construction included a marble wall weighing some 5,800 kilograms and a window-display rock of around 960 kilograms, with the whole space intended to present the products as art objects in a gallery-like setting [8]. The brand has documented campaigns shot in London, Mykonos, Athens, Santorini and Milan between 2016 and 2023.

Current status

The brand is active. It maintains live e-commerce on nikos-sculpture.com, completed its Mykonos flagship in 2023, and released a new fragrance, Sculpture Vague d'Or, in 2025 [11]. Operations are run out of Vouliagmeni under Apostolopoulos's own branding, with the founder having effectively revived the Sculpture name as an independent Athens-based perfume house.
