Summary

Overview

Olibere Paris is a French niche perfume house founded in 2014 by Marjorie Olibere [9]. The brand is built on a single idea: the union of cinema and fragrance. Each perfume is conceived with its own scenario and short-film accompaniment, drawing on filming locations, mythical films, and female film characters. Its fragrances are made in France, with essences sourced from Grasse, and are positioned within French haute parfumerie.

The company remains active. It operates a direct-to-consumer website, maintains a following on social media, and has drawn editorial coverage as recently as May 2025 [12]. Its distribution reaches niche perfumeries and department stores across more than fifteen countries.

Origin & founders

Marjorie Olibere came to perfumery after a long career in film and documentary work. According to an editorial profile by The Olfactive, she grew up in the South West French countryside, played basketball from the age of four, and discovered cinema through a high-school class. Before founding the brand she spent close to a decade in Asia, primarily Malaysia, and ran a television production company in Singapore that made economic documentaries for CNBC and Channel News Asia [8].

The turning point came in 2012, when she attended the Cosmoproof exhibition in Paris and met Valerie Vanier of Mission Beaute, who both warned her of the industry's difficulty and encouraged her to commit. She subsequently sold her Kuala Lumpur apartment and relocated to France [8]. Olibere describes the resulting house as the natural link between her two passions, "the magic of cinema and the poetry of perfume."

The brand's operational base is a point on which sources differ. Olibere's own about page places the founder in Toulouse, "close to her Latin roots" [5], while The Olfactive gives the headquarters as Paris with a family base in Toulouse [8]. The "Paris" in the brand's name functions largely as niche-perfumery positioning rather than a confirmed operational address.

History & milestones

Olibere Parfums was established in 2014, after roughly two years of development. The house made its public debut the following year: all five of its first haute parfumerie creations were launched on 18 May 2015, during the Cannes Film Festival [7]. The choice of venue reflected the brand's cinematic premise.

In the years that followed, Olibere presented its work on the international niche-fragrance circuit. It showed the Les Insoumises collection, signed by perfumer Luca Maffei, at Esxence in Milan, and launched Leather Attraction, created by Maffei together with Marjorie Olibere as creative director [10]. In 2019 it exhibited the Les Mythiques collection at Esxence and was ranked by Grazia among the twelve most promising brands at the fair [1].

Philosophy & positioning

The company frames each fragrance as a piece of storytelling. "Cinema and perfumes nourish my life with equal passion," the founder has said, and the house pairs each scent with a synopsis and a short film. Collections are organised around this narrative logic: Les Essentielles gathers eaux de parfum tied to the founder's travels and life experiences, while Les Mythiques comprises extraits de parfum inspired by mythical films and their female characters.

Olibere positions itself in French haute parfumerie and stresses provenance and materials over conventional luxury packaging. The company states that its perfumes are not tested on animals [3], and it has chosen not to wrap its fragrances in cellophane, arguing that "luxury does not consist in buying a product wrapped in plastic, but in buying a product of exceptional quality." Bottle and packaging design, drawn from cinema aesthetics, was handled by the founder herself; The Olfactive notes the bottle was inspired by a Super 8 camera and the brand's peacock logo chosen as a symbol of seduction and travel.

Products & innovation

Olibere's range is built entirely around fragrance, split between eaux de parfum and higher-concentration extraits de parfum, alongside discovery sets. Signature and best-selling perfumes include Le jardin d'Amelie and L'etoile Noire among the eaux de parfum, and Chemical Love, Dangerous Rose and Leather Attraction among the extraits. Recurring notes across the collections include rose, oud, patchouli, sandalwood, tuberose, amber and ylang-ylang.

A defining feature of the house is its collaboration with established perfumers. The company says it worked with three master perfumers on its collections: Bertrand Duchaufour, Amelie Bourgeois and Luca Maffei [3]. The spelling of the first name varies between sources: Olibere's own values page writes "Duchaudour" [3], while external coverage consistently gives "Duchaufour" [8], matching the well-known Parisian perfumer of that name. Manufacturing is carried out in France, with the brand stating that its essences come from Grasse.

Recognition

Beyond the 2019 Grazia listing at Esxence, Olibere has been featured across European fashion and beauty press. Homepage-cited notices include Gala, which called its work "a collection both elegant and unique," and L'Officiel, which described the meeting of perfume and cinema as producing "original and beautiful alchemy." The niche-fragrance publication ÇaFleureBon covered the 2018 launch of Leather Attraction [10], and the French trade title Cosmetic Mag ran a print feature in 2016.

Current status

Olibere Paris is an active, small independent niche perfumery rather than a department-store-scale house. It has no publicly recorded parent company. The brand runs its own e-commerce site and is stocked by niche perfumeries and some department stores, including Fenwick in the United Kingdom and El Corte Ingles in Spain, across more than fifteen countries. Its most recent recorded activity is an independent editorial review of the fragrance Escapade a Byzance, published in May 2025 [12].
