Omega, formally Pennellificio Omega SPA, is an Italian brush manufacturer based in Bologna, best known within grooming for its shaving brushes. Its name in Italian, pennellificio, means brush factory, and the company makes two broad ranges: professional paint brushes and rollers, and the shaving brushes and shaving sets that place it in the beauty and grooming category. The business dates its founding to 1931 [1] and has stayed under the same family across four generations, a lineage it presents as central to its identity.

The company remains active. Its website carries a 2026 copyright and a full current catalogue of shaving brushes, creams, soaps and gift sets, alongside an active Instagram and Facebook presence.

Omega should not be confused with the Swiss watchmaker of the same name; the two are unrelated companies.

According to the company, the present business was taken over in 1931 by the owners who had started it in the years immediately after the First World War [1]. The English-language version of the same history instead says the earlier venture began "before the Second World War" [4]; this appears to be a translation error, since the Italian original refers to the Prima Guerra Mondiale (World War I) and both versions agree on the 1931 founding date.

At the outset the main activity was processing pig, or boar, bristle. In the years after the war this shifted progressively toward making shaving brushes and, later, paint brushes; paint rollers were added in the early 1980s and became a prominent part of the OMEGA range. The company describes itself as having grown into a market leader in professional brushes and wet-shaving products.

In 1964 production moved from the original premises to the site the company still occupies. It has been expanded several times over the years, reaching what the Italian text records as 4,500 square metres [1]; the brand's English page gives the figure as "almost 5,000 square metres" [4]. The firm states that its current president began contributing to his father's company at the age of thirteen and, in his nineties, remains involved alongside grandchildren and other family members.

Omega's grooming range centres on shaving brushes made in three materials: boar bristle (setola), pure badger (puro tasso) and synthetic fibre. The badger lines are graded from black and super badger up to silvertip, and the catalogue also includes shaving creams and soaps, bowls, stands, razors and gift sets. The company positions its brushes toward the professional tier and attributes their quality to long manufacturing experience and careful selection of raw materials. It also warns customers against imitations — its Italian tagline, Diffidate delle imitazioni, translates as "Beware of imitations" [1].

Distribution is described as worldwide. Beyond Italy, the company says the OMEGA mark is present across global markets, including countries with strong local brush production of their own [1].

Within the wet-shaving community, one product in particular has built Omega's reputation: the boar-bristle model 10048, also known as the Pro 48. The specialty retailer Maggard Razors describes it as "the shaving brush preferred by Master Barbers in Italy," while the companion model 10049 (Pro 49) is marketed as suited to beginners [5]. The brush is widely treated as the benchmark budget boar option.
