Orsasandsten

Orsasandsten is a Swedish natural body- and skincare line made from Orsa sandstone, a stone quarried in Orsa, in the Dalarna region. Sold under the name Orsa Peeling, it is produced by Orsa Stenhuggeri AB, a third-generation family stone-cutting company. The range is limited to single-material stone tools — a peeling stone, a foot file and a nail file — manufactured entirely in Sweden with no added ingredients. The company sums up the idea in its tagline, "Naturlig vård med sandsten" (natural care with sandstone).

The line grew out of a business better known for gravestones and building stone. It was developed after Caroline Lenner, the founders' granddaughter, took over the company in 2021 [4]. The company remains active, with new-product development ongoing and its own materials dated into 2026.

No exact founding year is recorded. First-party and trade-press accounts place the origin only in the 1980s, when grandfather Bror Lenner began cutting grinding stones in Orsa as a hobby, using traditional methods [2][4]. His son Torsten Lenner later expanded the work into a formal business focused on building projects and gravestones.

The material at the heart of the products, Orsa sandstone, is a quartz- and feldspar-bearing sedimentary rock from Dalarna. The company and the trade press date its formation to about 450 million years ago [2][4], while the Swedish Wikipedia entry on the stone gives roughly 430 million years [5] — a minor discrepancy about the geology of the material rather than any corporate fact.

In 2011 the company acquired Borlänge stenhuggeri, extending its gravestone delivery across the Dalarna region [2]. Torsten's daughter Caroline Lenner assumed leadership in 2021, the third generation to run the firm, and began digitalizing its operations and developing new product lines [2][4]. Among these was the Orsa Peeling range, which carried the family's stone-working into personal care. Orsa Stenhuggeri is a member of Sveriges Stenindustriförbund, the Swedish Stone Industry Association.

The Orsasandsten line comprises three stone tools. The Peelingsten (peeling stone) is used in light circular motions on cleansed skin once or twice a week to lift away dead skin cells, and its rounded edges are shaped to follow the contours of the face and nose. The Fotfil (foot file) pairs a ridged side for calluses with a smooth side for gentler peeling elsewhere on the body. The Nagelfil (nail file) relies on the density of the sandstone's grain to shape fine, even nail edges.

All three are cut from pure Orsa sandstone with no additives, and the company describes them as built to last a lifetime and easy to clean. According to the company, the products are "100 % tillverkade i Sverige" (100% made in Sweden) [1].

Orsa Stenhuggeri frames stone as a symbol of lasting quality — "Sten symboliserar tidlös kvalitet" — and treats sustainability as foundational rather than a trend [3]. The company says it uses all the stone it quarries and aims to become fossil-free before 2029 [3][4]. Its single-material, additive-free tools are presented as a conscious, durable alternative to disposable products.

In March 2024 the trade publication Svensk Byggtidning profiled Caroline Lenner and the company under the headline "Hon för traditionen vidare med berömd Orsasandsten," noting both the stone-cutting heritage and the newer product lines [4].

The company is active. It continues to develop new products under Caroline Lenner, maintains social-media accounts, and its own materials carry dates into 2026. The Orsasandsten tools are sold mainly through the company's own shop, alongside its stone and monument work.
