Overview
OSKIA is a British skincare company founded in 2009 by Georgie Cleeve, who runs it with her husband, George Gordon [2]. The company is built around the idea of "skin nutrition" — the belief that healthy skin depends on the bioavailable nutrients delivered to its cells — and describes itself as a results-first, clean brand specialising in cellular skin nutrition. Its products are developed and manufactured at the company's own laboratory and factory in Monmouth, Wales, alongside a head office in London [8].
The brand remains active. Its e-commerce site carries current seasonal collections and new launches, and it continues to receive editorial coverage from UK beauty and lifestyle press.
Origin and founders
The company traces its beginning to Cleeve's personal experience with MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), a sulphur compound her father had pioneered decades earlier as a joint supplement for racehorses. After knee cartilage damage ended her skiing, Cleeve took MSM to help her recovery and, by her account, saw unexpected improvement in long-standing acne and eczema [2]. She had previously worked as a food and health journalist, including for Condé Nast, before assembling a team of doctors, nutritionists and chemists and spending roughly three years researching which nutrients skin cells need.
Most sources place the founding in 2009: the company's own account, the Welsh business profile GlobalWelsh, and a Country & Town House founder interview all give that year [2][8]. One editorial outlier, Cult Beauty's "Meet the Founder" feature, instead dates the launch to 2010 [7].
Philosophy and positioning
OSKIA positions itself as a "nutri-cosmeceutical" wellness brand centred on cellular skin nutrition, working from the premise that skin cannot look well without being healthy. According to the company, its formulas rely on bioavailable, micro-encapsulated and fermented nutrients — vitamins, minerals, peptides and amino acids — rather than on single high-percentage ingredients. In a founder interview, Cleeve summarised the thesis plainly: "every cell of our skin is born out of the food we consume." The house tagline is "Intelligent Skin Nutrition."
MSM sits at the centre of this approach, marketed by the brand as a "beauty mineral" that supports the skin's production of collagen and keratin. Cleeve has described it with a kitchen analogy: "MSM is to collagen, what flour is to cake."
Products and innovation
OSKIA's range spans cleansers, moisturisers, facial oils and serums, masks, bath and body products, and ingestible supplements. Its signature line is the Renaissance collection, led by the Renaissance Cleansing Gel — a gel-to-oil cleanser launched around 2013 that Cult Beauty's editorial described as "the first of the gel-balm hybrids and is still the best one out there" [7]. Other frequently cited products include the Renaissance Mask, the Restoration Oil, and the Super 16 Serum, which uses bakuchiol — a plant-derived retinol alternative — and which the company says was developed over two years.
The brand attributes its formulations to several proprietary systems, among them the MSM Regen Complex, a Bio-Mimetic Nutri-Barrier Complex and a bespoke amino-acid blend, together with what it calls patented micro-encapsulation and liposome technology intended to help ingredients absorb into the skin. It states that formulas can contain up to 40 actives and are around 99% natural or natural-origin.
Manufacturing and sustainability
A defining feature of the company is that it makes its products in-house in Wales rather than outsourcing — "Oskia was born in London," Cleeve has said, "but... we set up our laboratory and factory back home in Monmouth" [8]. The brand markets itself as cruelty-free and made in Wales, and it is B Corp certified [1], a standard covering social and environmental performance. It has also introduced a refillable packaging line.
Distribution
OSKIA sells directly and through third-party retailers. According to GlobalWelsh, the brand distributes across 14 countries — including Japan, the United States, France, Denmark, Sweden and Spain — via retailers such as Space NK, Cult Beauty, Barneys and Selfridges, with a workforce of more than 20 people across its London and Welsh sites [8]. It has also operated treatment rooms in London.
Recognition
The company reports winning more than 250 international beauty awards, and lists "Best British Brand" among them for three consecutive years [5]. Award counts cited elsewhere are lower and appear to reflect earlier points in time: a Country & Town House interview mentions over 200 [6], while a Lookfantastic brand guide states more than 135 [9]. The higher figure is the company's own current claim and is not independently audited. OSKIA has been profiled by outlets including Country & Town House, Cult Beauty, GlobalWelsh and Lookfantastic.
Current status
OSKIA is active. As of mid-2026 its website showed current seasonal collections and ongoing product launches, and its distribution spanned UK and international retailers alongside recent third-party editorial coverage.
