Summary

Overview

Pantomime Parfum is a Dutch niche fragrance house based in Amsterdam, founded in 2023 by creative director Jeroen Oude Sogtoen and in-house perfumer Fredrik Dalman [14]. The brand builds its collection around the idea named in its title: pantomime as the art of conveying emotion without words. Its tagline, "no words, just perfume," frames scent itself as the storytelling medium, and the debut range is arranged as a series of numbered "Acts" rather than conventionally named perfumes.

The company operates under the legal entity OPSYONS BV and runs a flagship store in central Amsterdam [12]. It remains active, having continued to expand the range through 2025.

Origin & founders

Pantomime Parfum was established in 2023 by Jeroen Oude Sogtoen and Fredrik Dalman [14]. Oude Sogtoen, based in Amsterdam with a background in fashion and design, is also the founder and creative director of ZENOLOGY and Maison Mona di Orio; Dalman serves as in-house perfumer at Maison Mona di Orio and developed Pantomime as a separate venture alongside him [16]. In an interview with L'Officiel Monaco, Dalman described the project as "started from scratch, creating an olfactory language expressing emotions without words," and called it "probably my greatest challenge so far" [16].

The name is presented as an allegory for perfumery — the technique of conveying emotions, actions and feelings without speech. Reflecting that concept, the house frames its role as providing a stage rather than a script: "we provide the stage; you play the role."

Philosophy & positioning

Pantomime describes its aim as searching for "opaque clarity" through what it calls exceptional raw materials and their deconstruction, with fragrances intended to amplify the wearer's own memories, stories and emotions. Its stated approach inverts a common industry hierarchy: rather than treating synthetic molecules as filler, the house casts a single synthetic raw material as the "lead character" of each scent, supported by naturals for depth. According to the company, this balancing of laboratory and natural materials is what produces the "opaque clarity" or "transparent depth" it pursues, with an emphasis on originality and quality.

Several of the synthetic materials the brand highlights are named individually, among them Ambrettolide HC Supreme, Bisabolene, Methyl Ionone Alpha Extra, Lactone of Cis Jasmone and Vetiverol [2]. Positioning the collection in the luxury tier, the six perfumes retail at €195 each, apart from the sixth at €220.

Products & innovation

The range is organised as "six acts, six perfumes, six sets of sceneries," each eau de parfum tied to a specific place, year and moment. Act 1 is built on the musk Ambrettolide HC Supreme and set in a Rome hotel in 1954; Act 2 pairs the material Bisabolene with cardamom against a 1967 rowing-club dawn; Act 3 places violet-toned Methyl Ionone Alpha Extra alongside leather and oud in early-1980s New York. Act 4 draws on Lactone of Cis Jasmone and patchouli aged thirty years, evoking 1970s Paris nightlife; Act 5 centres on vetiverol and galbanum; and Act 6, the most recent and highest-priced, foregrounds the spicy-leathery molecule Safraleine in a Marrakech setting. A smaller discovery set is also offered.

The house states that all its fragrances are vegan with one exception — Act 2, which contains Ambrettolide derived from shellac produced by lac insects [11]. Orders ship from a warehouse in the Netherlands, and the collection is distributed across much of Europe as well as select markets in Asia and the Middle East, alongside the Amsterdam flagship.

Ownership

The brand trades under the Dutch company OPSYONS BV, registered at the same central-Amsterdam address as its flagship store [12]. No acquisitions or ownership changes have been recorded.

Recognition & press

As a newly launched niche house, Pantomime was introduced to the fragrance trade press by Fragrantica in 2023 in an article titled "Pantomime: New Niche Brand from the Netherlands" [18]. Dalman also discussed the brand in an interview with L'Officiel Monaco, framing it as one of the more demanding projects of his career [16].

Current status

Pantomime Parfum is active. The company continued to add to its collection through 2025 with the release of Act 6, maintains its Amsterdam flagship store, and has advertised open positions as it expands.
