Summary

Overview

Pedibaehr is a German foot-care brand owned by Gustav Baehr GmbH, a Waiblingen-based wholesaler specialising in podiatry, foot care, cosmetics, wellness and nail design. The company introduced the line in 2001 [5], beginning with a single ointment for cracked skin. It has since grown into a wide range of foot creams, cream foams, baths, masks, scrubs, nail-care products and targeted treatments for problems such as calluses, fungal problems and warts.

Unlike most beauty brands, Pedibaehr grew out of the professional foot-care trade rather than consumer retail. It is sold both to podiatrists and foot-care practitioners, in large practice sizes, and to the public in retail tubes. According to the company, the products are developed by its own scientific department in close collaboration with podiatrists and foot-care specialists.

Origin & founders

No individual founder is credited with creating Pedibaehr. The brand was launched as an in-house label of Gustav Baehr GmbH, a family business whose history goes back more than half a century before the brand. In 1949 the Hamburg merchant Gustav Baehr set up "Technik Baehr" in Waiblingen, initially supplying goldsmiths, dentists and dental surgeons [2]. The business became Gustav Baehr GmbH in 1969 after a period of growth, and in 1977 his sons Elmar and Dieter Baehr took over its management.

By the time Pedibaehr appeared, the company was established as a supplier to the foot-care profession. The brand's own account names its first product as the Schrundensalbe mit Echinacea, an ointment for chapped and cracked skin on the feet. Pedibaehr calls it a classic among foot-care products and notes that it has been on the market for more than 20 years. A light cream foam with clotrimazole and 10 % urea was, the company says, also part of the range from the very beginning.

History & milestones

The company says that Pedibaehr has made a name for itself among professional users and end customers across Europe since the early 2000s [5]. Over the same period, it reports, the products were steadily reworked and the logo was modernised several times to keep pace with changing tastes.

The brand's own websites describe its age in rounded terms. The consumer webshop speaks of the line being known among foot-care specialists and podiatrists "for more than 25 years" [6], while the brand page on the parent company's site refers to "more than 70 years of experience and research" [1], a figure that draws on the history of the parent rather than the brand. The dated statement on the brand's own history page places the introduction in 2001.

The most visible recent change came in 2023. Shortly before the parent company's 75th anniversary, Pedibaehr received a new logo and redesigned packaging, reported in August 2023 by the foot-care trade magazine DER FUSS [9]. The new look uses a clear, plain design, a matte finish and embossed silver details. Managing director Michael Ladwig said at the time that the packaging was meant to better communicate the "high quality and effectiveness" of the products. The brand page notes that products are being moved over to the new design gradually.

Ownership

Pedibaehr belongs to Gustav Baehr GmbH, which also operates the brand's consumer webshop; the imprint of that site names the company in Waiblingen as its operator and Michael Ladwig as managing director [8]. Ladwig became chief executive in 2006, and the company passed 100 employees in 2014. Today it employs nearly 135 people across two locations, its headquarters in Waiblingen and a second site in Hamburg [2].

The parent sells Pedibaehr alongside a group of other in-house labels: BAEHR Facilities/Technology, BAEHR Beauty Concept, BAEHR Beauty Concept Nails, BAEHR Instruments/Bits and BAEHR Hygiene. Its stated mission is short and practical: "We contribute to people having healthier feet."

Philosophy & positioning

Pedibaehr's German slogan is "Besser laufen – laufend besser", which the company renders in English as "Improving your stride – striding to improvement." The brand page stresses that every person is different and presents the range as a basis for individual foot care.

The company sums up its approach in a handful of principles. Products are, in its words, developed for and by foot-care specialists. The range is meant to cover every foot-care need through complete product series, and it combines modern active ingredients with long-established ones. Pleasant scents are also listed among its selling points, which reflects the brand's double role between treatment and wellness.

That double role shows in the packaging formats. Practitioners can buy large practice sizes for use in treatment rooms, while the retail range comes in 75 ml and 125 ml stand-up tubes with clip closures, plus 35 ml trial sizes. The brand is distributed through the parent's wholesale business for professionals and through a dedicated consumer webshop.

Products & innovation

The consumer range is organised into cream foams, foot creams and balms, foot baths, foot masks, wellness products, scrubs, nail protection and care, pressure protection, accessories, a medical line and a line for people with diabetes. Cream foams are a recurring format: alongside the original clotrimazole foam, the range includes versions with hyaluronic acid and peach kernel oil, with propolis, and a cracked-skin foam with echinacea that combines 15 % urea with 1 % salicylic acid.

The creams lean on familiar care ingredients. Examples include a shea cream with panthenol, a foot balm with propolis, a deodorant balm with farnesol, a callus-reducing balm with salicylic acid and a deer tallow cream with mountain pine oil, as well as fruit-scented creams such as Frucht-Fußcreme and Fußcreme Orange-Lemongras.

A separate group of special preparations targets specific foot problems. Their active ingredients include urea, tea tree oil, thuja, clotrimazole and propolis, aimed at calluses, fungal problems, warts and nail fungus [3]. Products in this group include a callus softener with 20 % urea, a podo tincture with thuja, several tea tree oil liquids, a skin protection cream with clotrimazole and a freezing spray for hand and foot warts.

Beyond creams and liquids, Pedibaehr also covers pressure protection, with customisable foam pads, polymer gel rings and silicone gel pads designed to relieve pressure points on the feet. At company level, the parent's webshop displays an MDC ISO 13485 badge, a quality-management standard used for medical devices. No third-party certifications specific to the Pedibaehr range are documented.

Recognition

Pedibaehr products have placed several times in the BEAUTY FORUM Readers' Choice Award, according to the awards listed on the brand's website [7]. The Frucht-Fußcreme took first place in the foot-care products category in 2015/2016. The Fußcreme Karité forte mit Panthenol came third in the same category in 2017, and the Fußcreme Orange-Lemongras placed second in 2019 and third in 2020. In 2021 the Fuß-Vliesmaske, a fleece foot mask, came second in the Wellness & SPA category.

Current status

Pedibaehr is an active brand. Its 2023 redesign is still being rolled out across the range, and the dedicated consumer webshop carries the current line-up. The year 2026 marks 25 years since the brand's introduction, while its owner, Gustav Baehr GmbH, traces its own history back to 1949. The brand's reach beyond Germany rests on the company's statement that it is known among professionals and consumers across Europe.
