Overview
Sasva Parfums is a niche fragrance house based in Chennai, India, that describes itself as "a house of fragrance rooted in modern India." It was founded by Sriman Subramanian, an architecture graduate of the University of Edinburgh, as his family group's move into perfumery. The brand's name comes from a Sanskrit word meaning "excellent" or "praiseworthy" [7], and its stated aim is to express the richness of Indian poetry, films, ceremonies and landscapes through scent.
The house reached a wider audience in the early 2020s, when it began showing at the Pitti Fragranze trade fair in Florence and built a retail presence in Italy. It remains active: its most recent public activity was the 2025 launch of the fragrance Saaqi and a return to Pitti Fragranze in September of that year.

Origin and founders
Sasva was created by Sriman Subramanian, who trained as an architect at the University of Edinburgh and comes from a Chennai family with a three-generation background in construction, hotels and IT. According to interviews, he led the family group's expansion into what he called the luxury field with the startup Sasva Parfums [13]. His interest in perfume is traced to a childhood spent among what he described as "the smells and colours" of his native India, and the project was conceived, in his words, as "a cohesive desire to express through perfumery the richness of Indian poetry, films, ceremonies, and landscapes."
Subramanian has pointed to Chennai itself as a sensory reference, citing the flower markets around the temples of Mylapore and their mix of jasmine, lotus, sandalwood and champak. Much of the brand's own narrative on its website is presented as imagery rather than text, so the fuller account of its origins comes chiefly from editorial interviews and trade coverage.
History and milestones
The date of Sasva's founding is reported inconsistently. Several independent trade and editorial sources place the public launch in 2022: Fragrantica records the earliest fragrance edition as 2022 [11], the brand debuted that year as an exhibitor at Pitti Fragranze, and Italian coverage in 2025 described it as having been present in Italy for three years [8]. A single, unattributed reference on the brand's own site instead mentions 2015 [2]; this most likely refers to an earlier phase of the founder's family business rather than the perfume line, and the converging 2022 sources are the stronger record.
From that base the house expanded internationally. By 2025 it had launched Saaqi, a fragrance composed by perfumer Chris Maurice, returned to Pitti Fragranze for its 22nd edition in Florence, and entered the Brazilian market through a partnership with the retailer Neeche [6].
Philosophy and positioning
Sasva presents itself around two pillars it calls "Indian Modernism" and "Sensual Intricacy" — modern India expressed through scent, and layered fragrances meant to evoke intimacy and memory. The company frames each perfume as a narrative work tied to a place, poem or sentiment drawn from India's cultural heritage, and describes its wider ambition as reinterpreting the traditions of Oriental perfumery for contemporary audiences. Its logo is a variation on the thousand-petal lotus, described by the brand as a symbol of supreme consciousness in Indian culture.
The house positions itself at the luxury end of the market; its Pitti Fragranze profile describes it as creating "luxurious fragrances" from "natural and renewable ingredients" [10], and its 100 ml scents are sold at a single premium price point. Trade coverage has characterised its 12-fragrance collection as aimed at a cosmopolitan, globally minded audience.
Products and innovation
Sasva's fragrances are organised into named collections. Le Notti Di Goa, presented as a tribute to Goa after dark, includes the scents Shanthi, Sapna and Palolem, the last named after a beach in South Goa. Forbidden Words, which also carries the Urdu name Alfaaz-e-Mamnooah, is described by the company as "a daring blend of spices, smoky woods and decadent gourmands." Other lines include Fruit Du Paradis and the 2025 release Saaqi.
Saaqi has drawn the most editorial attention. Built around the figure of the Sufi wine bearer, it was composed by Chris Maurice and, according to a review by ÇaFleureBon, evokes "a lantern-lit tavern along the Silk Road, where India meets Persia," with notes ranging from red wine and black pepper to oud, vanilla and dried fruits [7]. Italian coverage linked the fragrance to the poetry of Rumi and Omar Khayyam. An earlier scent, Junoon, was the subject of a 2023 Fragrantica feature titled "Junoon Śasva: Mad Passion in a Bottle" [12]. Across its releases the house has worked with a number of independent perfumers.
Recognition
Sasva has been covered by several fragrance and lifestyle publications rather than winning formal awards. Fragrantica has featured individual releases, ÇaFleureBon reviewed Saaqi, and Italy's Il Sole 24 Ore reported on the brand's presence at Pitti Fragranze [8]. The company also lists coverage in the Spanish editions of Marie Claire and Glamour.
Current status
Sasva Parfums is active. Its most recent recorded activity dates to September 2025, when it exhibited at Pitti Fragranze 22 in Florence, launched Saaqi and expanded into Brazil [10]. The company is privately held, is listed as a small business of 11 to 50 employees, and sells directly through its own site as well as through niche fragrance retailers in Europe and the Americas [6].
