Summary

Overview

Sea of Spa is an Israeli cosmetics company that builds its skincare and body-care around minerals harvested from the Dead Sea. It is based in Arad, a desert town in southern Israel near the Dead Sea shore, and operates as a family-owned business under the legal entity Sea of Spa Labs Ltd. The company remains active, with a live product catalogue, an English-and-Hebrew website, and an export operation that supplies distributors and retailers in several countries.

Sources give slightly different founding dates. LinkedIn's official factory page and a LinkedIn Pulse article both place the formal founding in 1998 [9], while the retailer Israelcart records the brand as founded in 1996 [6]. Company materials add that activity at the Dead Sea began earlier, at the end of the 1980s [7], so the various dates appear to describe informal beginnings and later legal incorporation rather than a genuine dispute.

Thinner sourcing. The article relies largely on the brand's own statements (T2–T3). Glowpedia is seeking independent sources.

Origin

The company grew up alongside the Dead Sea itself. Arad sits inland from the lake, whose water carries roughly 32% dissolved salts, with high concentrations of magnesium, calcium, bromide and potassium [6]. Those minerals form the ingredient base for most of the range. According to the company, its products draw on Dead Sea water, salt and mud combined with vitamins, plant extracts and oils to support the renewal of skin cells.

Manufacturing is based at the Arad site, and the company's LinkedIn factory profile lists a workforce of 201 to 500 employees [7]. In 2013 a separate United States entity, Sea of Spa USA, was set up in San Jose, California, to handle North American distribution [8].

Products and ingredients

Sea of Spa is organised into several collections rather than a single hero line. Its best-known range is Black Pearl, an anti-aging line built around a combination of pearl powder, seaweed and Dead Sea minerals; the brand says this mix nourishes the skin and helps protect it from the free radicals that contribute to aging. Individual Black Pearl products include a 24K Gold Precious Day Cream and a Hyaluronic Restorative Night Cream. Other collections include Bio Marine, whose formulas centre on a "Triple Effect Complex" of Dunaliella algae extract, Dead Sea minerals, hyaluronic acid and, in some products, 24K gold; the plant-oil-based Bio Spa line; the Alternative Plus anti-aging range; and MetroSexual, aimed at male skincare.

Across these lines, recurring ingredients are Dead Sea minerals, water, salt and mud, alongside hyaluronic acid, pearl powder, collagen and 24K gold. On the retailer Judaica Web Store, the range is described as free of parabens and not tested on animals [11].

Philosophy and positioning

The company presents itself as a research-led laboratory rather than a purely commercial brand. It states that its products are developed by a team of specialists that includes dermatologists, biochemists and biotechnologists [7], and describes its aim as consolidating a position "as an authority in the field of cosmetics based on Dead Sea minerals" [9]. Third-party retailer descriptions echo the therapeutic framing: Israelcart repeats a common claim that Dead Sea water is known for soothing the skin and easing rheumatic discomfort [6], and Judaica Web Store states that the products are used to address concerns such as acne, psoriasis, wrinkles and dryness [11]. These are marketing and retailer claims rather than independently verified medical results.

Current status

Sea of Spa is active. Its website is live in English and Hebrew with a full product catalogue and business contact details, and the brand maintains an Instagram account, @seaofspacosmetics. The company positions itself as an export-oriented manufacturer, working with distributors and retailers internationally, and its products reach markets including Israel, the United States and the Nordic region. An older domain, sea-of-spa.net, listed on the company's LinkedIn profile, no longer resolves; the current site is seaofspa.com.
