Summary

Overview

Soap & Glory is a British bath, body and cosmetics brand founded in 2006 by the entrepreneur Marcia Kilgore [3]. Known for bright pink packaging and playfully named products, it built its range around affordable body care, skincare and colour cosmetics sold on the British high street. Since 2014 the brand has been owned by Alliance Boots and is today held by the No7 Beauty Company, the consumer-beauty arm of The Boots Group within Walgreens Boots Alliance [6][4]. It no longer operates as an independent company, but continues as a stand-alone brand under its parent and remains active, with a new product launch as recently as 2025 [4].

Origin & founders

Marcia Kilgore, a Canadian entrepreneur, created Soap & Glory after selling her earlier venture, the Bliss Spa business, and taking a year off [5]. She has described the idea arriving while she was living in the United Kingdom: walking through London, she began thinking about "the genius of the British high street" and the popularity of the tabloid press, and decided to "roll the tabloids and affordable cosmetics into one" [5]. The result was a brand that paired inexpensive formulas with a cheeky, tabloid-style tone, expressed through witty product names and its signature pink design.

Although Kilgore is Canadian, Soap & Glory is documented as a British brand, conceived and launched in London [6]. It first reached shoppers through Harvey Nichols and Boots in Britain.

History & milestones

The line launched in 2006 as a range of affordable bath, body and cosmetic products. Boots became a long-term retail partner from the start, and in 2011 Alliance Boots took a minority stake in the company [6]. In 2014, Alliance Boots acquired the brand outright, folding it into a newly formed Global Brands division while stating its intention to preserve Soap & Glory's identity as an entrepreneurial indie brand [6].

In 2025, the brand introduced a new fragrance-forward body care collection of five scents — Radiant Rose, Orchid Bliss, Tropical Sunrise, Vanilla-Licious and Watermelon Spritz — sold online and in store exclusively at Walgreens in the United States [4].

Ownership

Soap & Glory was fully acquired by Alliance Boots in 2014, having sold since launch through Boots as a retail partner and having taken Boots on as a minority shareholder in 2011. Marcia Kilgore was the seller [10]. The purchase price was not publicly confirmed: the trade publication Cosmetics Business reported that "the consideration has not been disclosed," while secondary press coverage reported the deal at roughly £50 million [6][11]. The brand is now held by the No7 Beauty Company, which describes itself as a consumer-led beauty business operating under The Boots Group, part of Walgreens Boots Alliance [4].

Philosophy & positioning

Soap & Glory positions itself around affordable, fragrance-led body and beauty products delivered with a playful, irreverent British tone. Kilgore has summarised the founding aim as making cosmetics effective, affordable and fun. According to its current owner, the brand's purpose is to provide "a sensorial body care experience," an emphasis it says has stayed consistent over time [4]. Its products sit at a drugstore price tier, and its identity leans heavily on humour, bold pink packaging and inventive naming.

The range spans body care, skincare and colour cosmetics, including body butters and lotions, shower gels, scrubs, hand and foot care, face products and makeup. Frequently cited products include The Righteous Butter body butter, Clean On Me shower gel, Flake Away body scrub, Hand Food hand cream and the Sexy Mother Pucker lip plumper gloss. Editorial coverage has singled out Hand Food and Flake Away among the brand's most popular items [9]. Commonly listed ingredients across the range include shea butter, glycerin, cocoa butter, vitamin E, aloe vera and green tea.

Current status

Corporately, Soap & Glory is an acquired brand: since 2014 it has operated as a stand-alone label within a larger parent, now the No7 Beauty Company under The Boots Group and Walgreens Boots Alliance. It nonetheless remains commercially active, with its most recent documented activity being the 2025 Walgreens body care launch [4]. It is sold across UK, US and Nordic markets.
