Overview
Soaphoria is a Slovak natural-cosmetics company founded by sisters Rita and Bianka Bodnárová. It makes vegetarian and largely vegan skincare, body and hair products by hand in Slovakia, sells them in returnable packaging, and positions itself around natural ingredients, cruelty-free production and sustainability. The company traces its origins to 2013, when it launched its first products [1]; editorial coverage records the sisters formally establishing the business in February 2014 in the eastern Slovak town of Veľké Kapušany, where production is still based.
The brand grew from a home craft into a multi-line manufacturer with its own e-shop, physical kiosks in Bratislava and Košice, and distribution through the drugstore chain dm-drogerie markt. It remains independent and founder-run.
Origin & founders
According to the company, the idea took shape during a 2013 holiday in Croatia, where the sisters were given a piece of handmade natural cosmetics as a gift. "The whole thing began with a vacation in Croatia," co-founder Bianka Bodnárová later wrote; alongside the sea and scenery, "we were pleased with one nice gift ... a piece of handmade natural cosmetics" [3]. Rather than importing such products into what they saw as a thin Slovak market for natural cosmetics, they decided to make their own.
Both founders draw on a family tradition: as children they foraged medicinal plants with their grandmother and learned to make tinctures and remedies, an upbringing the sisters credit as the foundation of their approach. Rita Bodnárová leads production and product development, while Bianka Bodnárová works on sales and marketing.
History & milestones
The company records 2013 as its starting point, the year it brought its first products to market [1]. Slovak editorial coverage dates the formal founding to February 2014 in Veľké Kapušany [2]. The two accounts are not contradictory: 2013 marks the first products and the brand's origin, while February 2014 marks the formal establishment of the business.
Recognition followed early. The company was named "Beginning Entrepreneur of the Year" in Slovakia's 2014 Business Entrepreneur competition, and received a "Young Innovative Entrepreneur" award in 2015 [4]. Over time the brand expanded beyond Slovakia, with editorial coverage citing exports to the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Spain, Canada and Palestine [2].
Ownership
Soaphoria is independent and run by its founders. The current operating legal entity, Soaphoria.sk s. r. o. (company number 56351747, registered seat in Bratislava-Petržalka), was registered on 17 July 2024, with chemical-manufacturing activity added that October [5]. This registration reflects a later corporate restructure and is not the brand's founding date; the business itself dates to 2013–2014.
Philosophy & positioning
Soaphoria presents itself as a handmade, natural brand built on ingredients of what it calls "ecological and ethical origin," and summarises its approach in the line "we manufacture by hand, with love and respect for nature and tradition." The company says it controls each step in-house, "from ... design and formula formulation, through production ... to final packaging and labeling."
Affordability is part of the positioning. In editorial coverage the founders argue that "natural and organic cosmetics don't mean material luxury," emphasising uniform nationwide pricing and support for a domestic brand [2]. The company groups its work around a set of stated values: natural ingredients, animal welfare, sustainability, transparency and handmade craftsmanship.
Products & innovation
The core Soaphoria range spans skincare, body care and haircare, with a signature body soufflé line (trademarked as Telové suflé®), organic deodorants and natural shampoos among the products the company highlights. Its formulas draw on organic essential oils, cold-pressed plant oils, natural butters and waxes, and herbal extracts, and the company states its products are free from parabens, silicones, synthetic fragrances, mineral oils, GMOs, microplastics and artificial dyes. According to the brand, its products are 100% vegetarian and 99% vegan, and it says its formulas draw on "nearly 500 plant ingredients" [6].
Beyond its own products, Soaphoria operates a family of in-house lines — among them Euphoria (aromatherapy and candles), Babyphoria (baby care), Beautyphoria (natural makeup), Scrubee (body scrubs) and Miraqle (anti-aging care) — and functions as a broader natural-cosmetics retailer stocking other brands alongside its own.
Sustainability
A returnable-packaging scheme sits at the centre of the brand's environmental messaging: the company states that all of its cosmetic and non-cosmetic packaging can be returned, with a recycling program that offers discounts on future purchases. It says it uses ecological and ethically sourced raw materials and sources locally from Slovak herbal suppliers, with production based in Veľké Kapušany.
The company holds a Leaping Bunny certificate from Cruelty Free International, which it describes as "the gold standard" for products not tested on animals, and states that it does not test its raw materials or finished products on animals [7]. It also carries a Green Brands certificate, an international mark assessing company processes, sourcing and environmental impact [7].
Recognition
Soaphoria received "Beginning Entrepreneur of the Year" in Slovakia's 2014 Business Entrepreneur of Slovakia competition and a "Young Innovative Entrepreneur" award in 2015 [4]. Slovak lifestyle outlet interez.sk has profiled the founders and the brand's origins and expansion.
Current status
Soaphoria is active. It manufactures its own products, runs an e-shop and two physical kiosks in Bratislava (Eurovea) and Košice (Optima), and distributes through dm-drogerie markt. Its most recent recorded activity is the July 2024 registration of the operating company Soaphoria.sk s. r. o. [5].
