Steambase is a South Korean skincare brand built around mineral-rich thermal water from Onyang, a hot spring region the company describes as the country's oldest. It is operated by Hummingavis Co., Ltd. (허밍아비스), a Gyeongju-based company that started in the cosmetics-container business and later moved into making its own branded cosmetics [6]. The line spans skincare, hair care, body care and makeup, with self-heating eye masks as its best-known products. The brand remains active, with its parent company listed as operating in Korean corporate records as of 2026 [14].

Steambase takes its name and identity from steam: the company says genuine beauty is natural and personal, drawing on the way steam "spreads infinitely" as an image of open possibility. Its tagline is "From You, Comes Your Real Beauty".

Hummingavis began in 1998 as a cosmetics-container business and was incorporated as a company on 30 November 2004 [12]. Over the following two decades it broadened from packaging into a fuller beauty operation. Korean industry sources report that Hummingavis launched Steambase around 2018 as a premium, hot-spring-water-based brand, marking its shift from container manufacturing into branded cosmetics [13]. That launch year is drawn from Korean business summaries rather than a primary company statement, and is best treated as approximate.

Steambase's own company page lists its founders as Yoo Sung-ryong and Kwon Jong-hun [2]. Korean corporate registries instead record the current representatives of parent company Hummingavis as Kwon Jong-hun together with a co-executive variously listed as Jin Se-ho, Choi Seok-jong or Kim Beom-jae, depending on the registry [14]. Kwon Jong-hun appears consistently across both the brand's account and the registry filings; the other names reflect changes in the company's leadership over time.

Steambase is owned and operated by Hummingavis Co., Ltd., which presents Steambase as its flagship brand and describes it as one "presenting solutions for healthy beauty" [6]. Hummingavis is registered as a small or medium-sized enterprise with roughly 20 employees. Reported revenue figures differ between sources: the Saramin corporate registry gives annual revenue of about 18.66 billion Korean won [12], while the RnDcircle business database lists a much wider 100–300 billion won bracket for 2023 [13]. The lower, more granular Saramin figure is the more plausible for a company of this size, and the wider bracket may reflect a display artifact rather than a genuine discrepancy in scale.

Steambase positions itself as gentle, nature-led skincare that aims to restore the skin's natural balance. Hummingavis frames the brand around three stated pillars — Nature, Promise and Harmony — covering natural formulation, continued research and carefully selected ingredients [6]. Independent K-beauty retailers describe the brand in similar terms, emphasising Onyang thermal water and botanical ingredients combined with more technical formulation. The company markets its products as premium within the indie K-beauty segment.

Thermal water from Onyang runs through much of the range as a signature ingredient, alongside components such as tea tree, squalane and a vegan biome complex. Current best-sellers on the brand's storefront include the Vegan Biome Soothing Ampoule Pad, the Squalane Moisture Restoring Cream and the Tea Tree Scalp Water Scaler. A separate Roseherb line uses rose-named botanicals — rose geranium, rosemary and rosehip rather than rose itself — which one independent reviewer noted makes it suitable for skin sensitive to rose.

The brand's most distinctive product is a self-heating eye mask. According to Korean business news, the mask releases warm hot-spring-water steam, reaching about 40°C within roughly three minutes and sustaining steam for around twenty minutes, and the Daily Eye Mask had sold six million units cumulatively by early 2021 [11]. Some products carry vegan positioning, and one independent review reported the brand describes itself as cruelty-free with no animal testing [10]; the packet records no third-party certifications.

A key milestone came in January 2021, when three Steambase Daily products — a lavender eye mask, a hand cream and a foot cream — entered the Korean military PX system, reaching roughly 1,000 military and civilian stores [11]. The brand later released a 2022 Fall/Winter lookbook.

Steambase describes direct shipping from its main site as limited to Korea, with international availability handled through regional sellers listed on its stores page.
