Overview
Sulfoderm is a pharmacy skincare and cosmetics line for oily, blemish-prone skin, built around sulfur as its defining ingredient. Its core product is a loose sulfur powder, the Sulfoderm S Teint Puder, which is meant to mattify the skin while carrying ingredients aimed at calming breakouts. Around it sits a compact range of cleansers, antiseptic day and night creams, tinted and covering products, and a whey-based shower lotion.
The brand is active. It is currently distributed by Dikropha GmbH, a family-owned health-care company in Wels, Austria, which sells the line through pharmacies and its own online shop [3]. In 2007 the same range was being promoted to German pharmacies by ECOS Vertriebs GmbH of Stromberg, Germany [7]. Who owns the Sulfoderm name itself has not been publicly identified.
History & milestones
Little of Sulfoderm's past is documented in independent sources. The clearest early record is a paid advertorial that ECOS Vertriebs GmbH placed in November 2007 on Apotheke Adhoc, a German news site for the pharmacy trade. It presented Sulfoderm as a "system" of skincare with three parts: cleansing, moisture-regulating care, and antibacterial tinting for blemished skin. It also stated that Sulfoderm products were offered exclusively in pharmacies [7].
The line-up described in that 2007 piece is recognisably the one sold today. It listed a sulfur cleansing bar (a "syndet" bar, made with mild synthetic cleansers rather than traditional soap), a wash gel and a toner called Teint Fresh; fragrance-free day and night creams; and a group of tinting products that included a tinted day cream, a concealer stick, the loose Teint Puder, a compact powder that combined sulfur with aloe vera, and powder pads. The advertorial also explained the brand's reasoning for sulfur: blemishes form when excess oil and a thickened outer skin layer block the pores, and sulfur was described as disinfecting, calming inflammation and loosening that thickened layer.
A later change concerned zinc. In an EU regulation dated 3 August 2017, the European Commission revised the rules on zinc oxide in cosmetics after its scientific safety committee raised concerns about lung inflammation from inhaled zinc oxide particles; the ingredient was restricted to uses that cannot lead to inhalation, with powders named as an example of the concern. Dikropha states that the loose and compact Sulfoderm powders use zinc PCA in place of zinc oxide [4]. No date is given for that reformulation.
Ownership
The owner of the Sulfoderm brand and trademark is not publicly documented. Dikropha GmbH, which sells the line today, describes itself as an Austrian family business focused on health care, founded in 2013 and run by managing director Mr Dirnberger [2]. The company places Sulfoderm first in its product overview. However, where it credits other lines to their makers, such as the AgainLife oncology care range, which it attributes to the Italian biotechnology company AgainLife Italia S.R.L., it names no manufacturer or owner for Sulfoderm.
Dikropha lists ECOS Vertriebs GmbH in Stromberg, Germany, among its business partners, alongside GAP Research Ltd. in Kent, England, and Functional Cosmetics Company AG in Basel, Switzerland [2]. ECOS is the company that marketed Sulfoderm to German pharmacies in 2007, but the exact relationship between the two distributors and the brand has not been made public.
Within Dikropha's portfolio, Sulfoderm sits beside the company's own DIKRO-FIT and ZAHN-FIT products, the Otosan range of ear, nose and throat medical devices, and AgainLife.
Philosophy & positioning
Dikropha presents the Sulfoderm S care series as one developed specifically for impure skin. The company stresses that oily, blemish-prone skin is no longer only a teenage problem, arguing that daily exposure to environmental stress leaves many adults' skin sensitive as well. The 2007 advertorial made the same point, in almost the same terms.
According to Dikropha, the S line is organised around daily cleansing, morning and evening, followed by antiseptic care creams and antiseptic products for tinting, covering and mattifying. Used together, the company says, the products soothe redness, regulate oil production, make up for moisture loss, work against blemishes and inflammation, and leave the skin soft. It describes the formulas as combining active ingredients that are matched to one another.
The positioning is closer to a pharmacy remedy than to a fashion cosmetic. Products carry pharmacy product numbers, the range is described in terms of skin conditions rather than looks, and Dikropha's product pages explain each main ingredient's intended effect in some detail. Sulfur itself is described as a component of several amino acids, and the company attributes to colloidal sulfur (very fine sulfur particles) the ability to normalise the skin's oil glands and to act as a disinfecting, anti-inflammatory and soothing agent.
Products & innovation
The range is split into two lines. The larger, Sulfoderm S, is the face and complexion line. It includes the Teint Syndetseife cleansing bar, Teint Waschgel, Teint Fresh, fragrance-free Teint day and night creams, a tinted day cream, the Teint Stick concealer, an Anti Pickel Gel for spots, powder pads and the two powders. A separate Sulfoderm Schwefelcreme (sulfur cream) is also sold.
The loose Teint Puder is a transparent powder in a shaker tin, intended for oily skin that is prone to blemishes and redness. Because it is transparent, Dikropha says it can be used on the face as well as on the back, upper arms and décolletage, leaving an even matte finish. Its formula is based on rice starch and talc, with zinc PCA, silica and sulfur [6]. The company describes zinc PCA as moisturising, astringent and oil-reducing, and credits it with an antimicrobial effect against bacteria, yeasts and moulds. The compact version, Sulfoderm S Kompakt Puder mit Schwefel, is among the products Dikropha currently features as bestsellers [1].
The second line, Sulfoderm M, consists of a single product, the M Duschlotion shower lotion. The "M" stands for Molke, the German word for whey. Dikropha says it contains unprocessed milk proteins to support the skin's natural acid protective layer, together with chamomile for its anti-inflammatory properties. With a pH of 4.0 to 4.5, it is intended for daily washing of problem skin and of the sensitive intimate area. The company describes it as dermatologically tested [3], without giving details of any study.
Two ingredient statements stand out on Dikropha's news page. The company says the Sulfoderm range contains no triclosan, an antibacterial agent whose use in everyday products has been challenged by doctors and researchers [4]. In response to customer questions, it has also clarified which products contain animal-derived ingredients: the Teint Stick contains lanolin (wool wax) and the M shower lotion contains milk proteins, while the cleansers, creams, gel, tinted cream and both powders contain none [4]. The line as a whole is therefore not vegan. No third-party certifications are documented.
Current status
Sulfoderm is active. As of September 2026, Dikropha's online shop listed six Sulfoderm products in its bestseller selection, including the M Duschlotion, the Teint Puder, the Kompakt Puder, the Teint Stick, the Anti Pickel Gel and the powder pads [1]. Dikropha states that it sells and ships the products only within Austria, where the line is also available in pharmacies [3]. The company offers product samples on request, again only to customers in Austria.
