Summary

Overview

The Water Brand is a Spanish indie fragrance house founded in Barcelona in 2021 by Audrey Limbioul [1]. It makes alcohol-free perfumes built on a water base rather than the alcohol used in conventional fragrance, and sells them directly to consumers online under the tagline "The new way to fragrance."

The brand shows no visible activity after 2023. Its most recent fragrance launch dates to that year, every product on its website is currently listed as sold out, and no launches or news have appeared for 2024 through 2026 [7][12]. On that basis it is best described as dormant rather than active.

Origin and founders

According to the company, Limbioul had worked at a high-end fragrance company and travelled frequently to the Middle East, where she observed that many perfumes contained no alcohol and were, as the brand puts it, "very unique and pure" [2]. Returning to Barcelona, she found no quality long-lasting alcohol-free fragrances on the market. Having herself become sensitive to alcohol-based perfumes, she set out to create a water-based alternative, launching The Water Brand in 2021 [2].

The company frames its founding around a personal turning point; one of its own blog posts is titled "Finding the Motivation to Launch my Business after a Challenging Personal Experience." Public records describe a very small operation: its LinkedIn company page lists a single employee and gives Barcelona as its base [10].

Products and positioning

The Water Brand's central idea is to replace alcohol with water as the carrier for perfume oils. The company says this yields scent that lasts longer on the skin and is gentler than alcohol-based formulas, avoiding both the smell of alcohol and its drying effect. It describes the product as a "milky white liquid texture that sprays into the finest of mists," suitable for use on body, hair and clothes, and positions it as "a delicate alcohol-free alternative for sensitive skin." A branded feature in Spanish media reported a minimum oil concentration of 15 percent in the formulas [8].

Its catalogue is small. The first two fragrances, Bossa Wood, described as woody and spicy, and Tropica, described as more fruity and floral, launched in 2021 [8]. A later scent, Rebel Tonka, built on tonka bean, coffee and bergamot, is recorded as the newest addition in 2023 [12]. The brand also offers travel sizes, samples and multi-scent packs, and sells through its own online store direct to customers, with sample bottles included in orders and free returns if a scent does not satisfy [8].

The company positions the line as "PLANET FIRST" and states that its perfumes are cruelty-free, vegan, phthalate-free and free of synthetic dyes [2]. It presents the range as genderless, "made for all."

Current status

The Water Brand is treated here as dormant. Its website remains online, but all listed fragrances are sold out, the newest launch dates to 2023, and no new products or news have surfaced for 2024 through 2026 [7][12]. The founder's last clearly dated public post, marking a travel-size launch before Christmas, was in December 2021 [11]. The operation appears to have been run by a single founder, which is consistent with a small indie house that has gone quiet rather than formally closed.
