Overview
Thiocyn is a German haircare brand built around thiocyanate, a naturally occurring molecule that the company positions as the active basis for treating hair loss. It is sold directly to consumers, chiefly as topical serums for the scalp, alongside supporting supplements and serums for eyelashes and beards. The brand is developed and manufactured in Germany and describes its formulas as vegan.[5]
The company behind it is registered as Tiocyn GmbH — spelled with a single "i", while the products are marketed as "Thiocyn" — with its legal address in Leverkusen and Peter Hart listed as managing director.[3] A business-data provider records an earlier company address in Frankfurt,[7] though the current legal imprint gives Leverkusen. The brand remains active, with its most recent blog post dated August 2026.[6]
Origin and scientific basis
Thiocyn traces its origins to an unusual folk remedy. According to the company's account, farmers in Eastern Europe once let cows lick their heads to relieve skin irritation and hair loss, taking advantage of the high concentration of thiocyanate in cow saliva.[2] That anecdote frames the brand's central premise: that thiocyanate, a molecule the body produces on its own, can influence the health of the scalp and hair.
The scientific case is attributed to Prof. Dr. Axel Kramer, whom the company describes as a leading researcher of thiocyanate's medical significance and credits with more than three decades of work on the molecule. Thiocyn says the molecule helps regulate the body's own processes, and presents its products as a natural treatment without side effects — a position it attributes to Kramer.[4]
Products and innovation
The core of the range is the Thiocyn Hair Serum, sold in separate 150 ml formulations for women and men. Around it sit hair capsules, hair vitamins, an eyelash serum and a beard serum. The serum's ingredients include sodium thiocyanate alongside panthenol, rutin, arginine and allantoin, while the capsules combine biotin, zinc, selenium and other vitamins associated with normal hair.[5]
Thiocyn markets a patented "thiocyanate-active complex" as its signature technology, though it publishes no patent numbers. The company explains the mechanism through what it calls the EVA effect — a three-step model of relief, supply and activation meant to stabilise hair roots, deliver nutrients and normalise the hair-growth cycle.[4]
The brand's efficacy figures come from a manufacturer-commissioned dermatological application test carried out with the Dermatest Research Institute in 2016, on 20 subjects over 36 weeks. On that basis the company reports up to 86 percent less hair loss, 35 percent greater hair density per square centimetre, and a good or healthier scalp in 90 percent of participants.[4] It also cites larger observational cohorts in 2016 and 2019. No independent consumer-laboratory testing of these claims is documented, and no third-party certifications are on record.
Ownership
Thiocyn is operated by Tiocyn GmbH of Leverkusen.[3] Its ownership and any parent company are not disclosed. The company's website links to an affiliated skincare line, Noreiz, although the two are not described as being in a formal parent-subsidiary relationship.
Current status
Thiocyn is active. It runs a direct-to-consumer store with a subscription option, is also sold through online marketplaces, and continues to publish to its blog, most recently in August 2026.[6] One business-data aggregator has listed the company as defunct,[8] a label contradicted by its current storefront activity and 2026 publishing.
