Overview
Washologi is a Swedish garment-care brand founded in 2014 by Viktoria Widengren [1]. Its name derives from a coined term meaning "the science of washing," and its range covers laundry detergents, fabric softeners, linen water and home fragrance rather than conventional skincare or cosmetics. Products are made on Sweden's west coast, in Fjällbacka, and the company positions its output as design-led, gentle and environmentally minded garment care. The brand remains active, trading through its own Swedish webshop and a network of resellers.
Origin & founders
Washologi was created by Viktoria Widengren, a trained social worker from Skellefteå who had relocated to Stockholm. According to a Femina interview, the idea came from a simple observation: while shoe shops stocked shoe-care products, clothing retailers offered nothing comparable for garments [5]. The brand was presented at the Formex trade fair in Stockholm in August 2014, and Widengren has said she secured 20 retailers on the journey home from the fair [5]. The name Washologi is glossed by the company as "läran om tvätt" — roughly, the study of washing.
Philosophy & positioning
The company frames washing as a routine chore that can be made more pleasant through good design, effective formulas and a distinctive scent range. Its stated mission is straightforward: "Washing is a must, and we want to make that must a little more pleasant." Washologi also ties its purpose to garment longevity, describing its aim as helping people extend the life of their clothes "for a sustainable wardrobe and future." Editorial coverage has summarised this as an "everyday luxury" approach to laundry [5], and a Testproffs review described the products as "luxury and sustainable laundry products" [6].
Products & innovation
The core range spans liquid detergents, fabric softeners, linen waters and accessories. A signature line is Linnevatten (linen water), sold under scent names such as Desire, Grace, Längtan and Purity and marketed with the tagline "linen water, a freshly washed feeling in a bottle." Other products include a Sport Wash, a White & Colour Wash, fabric softeners and tumble-dryer balls. Washologi's detergents are formulated to clean at low temperatures, and the company has highlighted a sportswear detergent designed to make sweat molecules water-soluble at 30°C [5].
Sustainability
Washologi centres much of its messaging on environmental claims. The company says its formulas are highly concentrated, to avoid shipping unnecessary water, and that its products are biodegradable and free of unnecessary chemicals such as dyes [3]. Bottles are described as Swedish-made from bioplastic, with small-scale production in Fjällbacka using selected raw materials [3]. The brand states that its products are "100% vegan," with the exception of its Delicate Wash and Delicate Fabric Softener, which contain re-fatting lanolin derived from sheep's wool [3]. No third-party certification body is named in the sourced material.
Recognition & press
Current status
The brand is active. As of an April 2025 editorial update, Washologi operated a current Swedish webshop with a full product range, a business-to-business portal and a reseller programme [6], and it maintains active social-media channels. Its distribution appears to be centred on Sweden and the wider Nordic market. The company marked its fifth anniversary — branded "Washologi by Viktoria" — in 2019 [7].
