Summary

Overview

Wobecare is the cosmetic line of MUCOS Pharma, a Berlin-based pharmaceutical company best known for the enzyme preparation Wobenzym. Rather than a standalone beauty house, it is a single-product sub-line: the only product under the name is Wobecare CBD Aktiv Creme, a body cream that combines cannabidiol (CBD) with plant extracts such as arnica, comfrey, menthol and camphor [4].

The company presents the cream as a complement to classic enzyme therapy, its core business for more than six decades [2]. Because of that, the line's story is largely the story of its parent: a small vitamin firm founded after the Second World War that grew into an international enzyme-therapy specialist and changed hands several times, most recently joining the Dermapharm group in 2026.

Origin & founders

No launch date or founding story has been published for the Wobecare line itself, and the people behind its development are not named. Its origins can only be traced through MUCOS Pharma.

According to the company, the endocrinologist Hellmut Haubold founded Mucos in 1949 to sell vitamin emulsions of his own design, marketed as "Mulsine" [2]. The biologist and business graduate Karl Ransberger joined early and, in 1957, took over the management of what was then a four-person firm.

Ransberger's meeting with Max Wolf, a Viennese physician practising in New York, set the company's later direction. Wolf and the biochemist Helen Benitez of Columbia University had developed a combination of enzymes they called the "Wolf-Benitez enzyme mixture", shortened to WoBe-Enzyme. That name is the root of both Wobenzym and, by extension, the "Wobe" in Wobecare [3].

History & milestones

Wobenzym reached the German market in 1960, and Mucos then concentrated on research into enzyme therapy [3]. The dating of the enzyme blend itself differs between sources: the company says the combination was developed in the 1940s, while Wikipedia places its first development in the 1950s [5].

Roughly two decades after the product launch, the firm moved to larger premises near Munich. International expansion followed the fall of the Iron Curtain, and in 1991 Mucos opened a branch in Prague. MUCOS Pharma now operates from Berlin and Munich, with representatives and partners abroad. Its own pages give different figures for that reach, from more than 20 to over 30 countries across Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Ownership

Wobecare has passed through several owners as part of MUCOS Pharma. In 2007 the Canadian company Atrium Innovations, active in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and nutrition, acquired Mucos [2]. From 2018 to 2025 Atrium Innovations, and with it Mucos Pharma, belonged to Nestlé Health Science, Nestlé's health division [2]. Wikipedia still describes Wobenzym as marketed by Nestlé Health Science [5].

Since 2026, Mucos Pharma has been part of the German Dermapharm group [2]. The company's current website links to Dermapharm's compliance reporting channel, reflecting the new ownership.

Within MUCOS Pharma, Wobecare sits alongside the medicines Wobenzym and Phlogenzym mono and the food supplement Wobenzym immun. It is the only cosmetic in that portfolio.

Philosophy & positioning

MUCOS Pharma frames Wobecare as an extension of its enzyme-therapy work rather than as a beauty brand in its own right. The parent company describes its long-running mission as making "a life in motion" possible, a theme rooted in its joint-pain and inflammation medicines.

The cream follows the same pharmacy-first approach as the rest of the range. The company says its products are sold through mail-order pharmacies and local pharmacies, and the cream appears in the catalogue of online pharmacies such as medpex [6]. On the company's website it is listed among the customer favourites alongside two Wobenzym products.

Products & innovation

The line consists of one product, Wobecare CBD Aktiv Creme, sold in a 100 ml tube. According to MUCOS Pharma, each tube contains 500 mg of CBD, which the company describes as a high dose [4]. The formula pairs the CBD with arnica, comfrey, menthol and camphor, along with aloe vera and broccoli seed oil. Aloe leaf juice heads the ingredient list, which also includes peppermint oil, Scots pine leaf oil and wintergreen oil.

The company says the blend gives an immediate soothing effect, and the cream is marketed for its cooling feel on the skin. MUCOS Pharma states that the product was rated "very good" in dermatological testing, though the testing institute is not named [4]. The cream is labelled as certified vegan; no certifying body is identified.

The product carries usage warnings: it is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women and is not suitable for children under seven. Despite the line's ties to enzyme therapy, the product description names no enzymes among the cream's ingredients.

No proprietary technologies, patents or research partnerships specific to Wobecare are documented.

Current status

Wobecare is active. As of 2026, Wobecare CBD Aktiv Creme is listed as the cosmetic in the product menu of MUCOS Pharma's official Wobenzym website, which also records the company's move into the Dermapharm group that year [1].
