Summary

Overview

Wooshin Labottach is a South Korean pharmaceutical and cosmetics company founded in Seoul in 1992 [1]. It specialises in adhesive skin patches and orally disintegrating films, and its consumer beauty line — hydrogel patches for the face and body — sits at the point where dermatological medicine meets K-beauty. The company was established by the pharmacist Tack-Soo Nam and remains built around pharmacist-developed formulations delivered through its own patch technology.

The business began as a pharmaceutical import and export operation and moved into cosmetics manufacturing two decades later, registering as a cosmetics maker in 2011 and launching its own cosmetic line in 2015. Alongside its Korean base it runs a European manufacturing subsidiary in Slovenia and reports exports to markets across the United States, Europe and Asia.

Origin and founders

Wooshin Labottach was established in 1992 by Tack-Soo Nam in the Yoido area of Seoul [1]. According to the company's European subsidiary, Nam trained as a pharmacist, holding a Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from Sungkyunkwan University (1982) and a Master of Pharmacy from Chung-Ang University (1986). He remains the company's chief executive.

In its early years the company operated as a pharmaceutical import and export business, obtaining a KFDA import/export certificate for pharmaceutical products in 1994. This medical grounding shaped the products that followed: the consumer patches are presented as pharmacist-formulated rather than conventional cosmetics.

History and milestones

The company's Korean headquarters moved to the Daerung Post Tower in the Guro district of Seoul in 2005, and it obtained an ISO certificate in 2004. Its shift toward cosmetics came in stages. In 2011 it registered a manufacturing and sales licence for cosmetics; in 2012 it developed its own hydrogel patch and set up a research and development centre; and in 2015 it launched a cosmetic line [1].

International expansion ran in parallel. Wooshin established a Hungarian operation in 2013, and in 2015 acquired a pharmaceutical factory in Slovenia [1]. That Slovenian operation was formalised as the subsidiary Wooshin Lapache in 2017. In 2020 Wooshin Lapache received EU GMP certification; the company describes itself as the first in its industry to secure EU GMP certification for a European subsidiary [10].

Ownership

Wooshin Labottach is the parent company of its own group rather than a subsidiary of a larger owner. Its structure includes the distribution subsidiary Labottach, established in 2009, along with Wooshin Hungary and the Slovenian manufacturer Wooshin Lapache [1]. Spiranto and Venolite operate as product brands within the group.

Philosophy and positioning

The distinguishing claim across Wooshin Labottach's beauty products is that its formulations are developed by pharmacists. One editorial guide to the line reports the brand organising its skincare around three principles — "Night care, Home care, Partial care" — with different products intended for different areas of the face [9]. The same source states that "all ingredients are developed by pharmacists only" [9], framing the pharmaceutical background as the brand's central point of difference. The line is generally discussed within the broader K-beauty category.

Products and innovation

The company's beauty range centres on hydrogel patches. Editorial reviews describe products such as the V-UP Patch for chin-line contouring, the AC Thyol Intensive Care Patch for acne, and a Revitalization Hydrogel Eye Patch, drawing on ingredients including caffeine, hydrolyzed collagen, arnica extract, tea tree oil and sodium hyaluronate [8]. Its own materials also highlight the Spiranto patch, which releases vapours from eucalyptus, lavender and mint to ease nasal congestion during sleep, and Venolite, a disposable patch marketed for soothing and cooling tired lower legs.

Underlying the range are two proprietary platforms the company names as HydroCata Technology, a matrix-type hydrogel patch system, and ECO Film Technology, an orally disintegrating film (a thin film that dissolves in the mouth) [4]. Wooshin reports holding eight registered patents with five pending, spanning delivery formulations for areas such as migraine therapy, dermatitis prevention and pain management [5]. Its research has included a 2013 government-funded industry-academia project with Yonsei University on ODF formulations for migraine treatment [5]. The company's Korean facility lists certifications including ISO 13485, ISO 9001, HACCP and Food GMP [7].

Recognition

Editorial coverage of the brand has come chiefly from niche Asian-beauty and K-beauty outlets. A 2020 Kherblog review examined five of the facial patches, and a Q&A guide on the blog Anny Day walked through the line's use and positioning. No major mainstream beauty press coverage was identified, consistent with the brand's niche, medical-cosmetic profile.

Current status

Wooshin Labottach is active. Its Slovenian subsidiary Wooshin Lapache is operational, it maintains a corporate LinkedIn presence, and its patches remain available at retail. On its corporate LinkedIn profile the company states that it exports to approximately 80 countries [7]; an older figure circulated via its European Facebook page put the number at 48 countries [12]. The most recent news item on the company's own site dates to August 2020 [6], so while the corporate news feed is no longer regularly updated, the company and its subsidiaries continue to operate and sell.
