Summary

Overview

Yope is a Polish natural cosmetics brand based in Warsaw, founded by the married couple Karolina Kuklińska-Kosowicz and Paweł Kosowicz. The company makes body, hair and skincare products alongside household cleaning goods, positioning itself around natural formulas, distinctive scents and hand-illustrated packaging. It sells across Poland and exports to markets in Europe, Asia and North America.

Most sources, including the brand's own account and a majority of Polish editorial coverage, place the founding in 2013 [8]; the Polish Investment and Trade Agency instead describes Yope as "a family business started in 2014" [5]. Sources agree that the company's first products went on sale in January 2015 [10], so the earlier dates refer to the idea and initial soap-making rather than to the launch of retail sales.

Origin and founders

Yope began with soap. According to the company, Karolina Kuklińska-Kosowicz and her husband Paweł first set out to make soap, and after Karolina became a mother she started looking for safe, natural products — a search that led to founding Yope. From soaps the range grew to hand balms and creams, cleaning products, children's products and, later, shampoos.

The couple are described on the brand's site as parents of two daughters, and Yope frames itself as "people" rather than a corporate operation. The visual identity has been shaped from the start by Paweł Przybył, a friend of the founders (distinct from co-founder Paweł Kosowicz), who has designed the labels and whose animal illustrations became central to the brand's look. In a founder interview, Kuklińska-Kosowicz recalled that the first labels took a long time to create, with up to 50 concepts prepared for some designs.

History and milestones

After sales launched in 2015, Yope expanded steadily. In 2018 it introduced what has been described as Poland's first in-store cosmetics refill option, at its Warsaw boutique, and launched its #beeYOPE wild-bee protection initiative [11]. In February 2019 the brand entered the hair care category with shampoos and conditioners in three variants — Oat Milk, Fresh Grass and Oriental Garden [6]. In 2020 it placed refill vending machines in Carrefour BIO stores through a partnership with the startup Swapp [12].

The company began exporting to Spain in February 2021, following a 2019 trade mission organised by the Polish Investment and Trade Agency [5]. In 2023 Yope relocated to a new office in Warsaw's HOP building [4].

Philosophy and positioning

Yope describes itself as "not just products" but a "philosophy of good living," citing care for product quality, its community and the environment. The company says its formulas contain up to 99% natural ingredients; a founder interview gives a figure of more than 95% natural and vegan, with active ingredients developed by an internal research team. The brand names quality, scents and design as the qualities that set its products apart, and its slogan is "Naturalnie niezwykłe," rendered in English as "naturally extraordinary" or "naturally unusual."

The founder has said she wanted packaging that would stand out on shop shelves and evoke positive emotion, which the animal-illustration labels are meant to carry. Editorial coverage describes the brand's appeal to pet owners, families with children and people with sensitive skin looking for eco-friendly options.

Products and innovation

Production started with hand soaps and, according to the company, hand balms and creams later drew wide attention. The current range spans face, hair, body, kids and home categories. Product lines featured by the brand include Waterfully, a hydration line built around polyglutamic acid; Yope Men, a male-specific skincare line; and SKIN PROGRESS Acne Control, aimed at stressed, sensitive and oily skin. Reported hero ingredients across the range include ceramides, peptides, oat milk and linden flower.

Yope states that its formulas avoid parabens, SLS, SLES, PEG and silicones, and that its products are cruelty-free. The brand carries VIVA! vegan certification and says it uses Ecocert ingredients, with its cleaning range certified under the EU Ecolabel [3].

Sustainability

Environmental initiatives are a stated part of the brand's positioning. Yope runs a forest-planting programme (#lasYOPE / #YOPEwood) and, since 2018, a wild-bee protection effort (#beeYOPE) tied to its Linden Flower series. Through a partnership with Lidl (#wspieramyBiebrzę), the company supports the Biebrza Valley and National Park. Its packaging is described by the brand as recyclable and refillable, and the 2018 Warsaw refill option and 2020 Carrefour refill machines reflect that refill focus in practice.

Current status

Yope remains active. Its online store carries current product lines — including Waterfully, Yope Men and SKIN PROGRESS Acne Control — and the company reports exports to more than 40 markets across Europe, Asia and North America, with an annual turnover of around EUR 20 million [5]. The brand received press coverage from Vogue Poland and Harper's Bazaar Poland, both featuring interviews with co-founder Kuklińska-Kosowicz.
