Sarantis Group

5 brands · founded 1964 · Greece

Sarantis Group (Gr. Sarantis S.A.) is a Greek multinational consumer-products company headquartered in Marousi, a northern suburb of Athens. The group manufactures and distributes brands across beauty, skin and sun care, personal care and home care, and traces its parent legal entity to the establishment of Gr. Sarantis S.A. in 1964 [1]. It is listed on the Athens Stock Exchange and remains controlled by the founding Sarantis family.

The group describes itself as a multinational consumer-products company with an expanding geographical footprint, operating across Greece, the Balkans, Central and Eastern Europe and beyond. Rather than a beauty conglomerate in the mould of the large Western houses, Sarantis is a regional player that has grown by combining its own manufactured brands with a long series of acquisitions in the markets where it trades.

History & milestones

The company's roots lie in a family cosmetics trade, and the modern corporate entity dates its establishment to 1964 with the founding of Gr. Sarantis S.A. [1]. A significant step came in 1994, when the company was listed on the Athens Stock Exchange under the ticker SAR [3], giving it access to public capital to fund its later expansion.

From the 2000s onward the group's history is largely a record of geographic growth through acquisition, extending its manufacturing and distribution reach into Central and Eastern European markets while retaining a base of brands produced in-house.

Portfolio & brands

Sarantis states that many of its best-known names are produced by the company itself rather than licensed or distributed on behalf of others [4]. Within beauty, skin, sun and personal care, its portfolio includes the sun-care line Carroten, the skincare brand Bioten, the Czech-heritage brand Astrid, the men's grooming and fragrance line STR8, the personal-care brand B.U., and the hair line C-THRU [4]. The group also owns Noxzema, a skin-care brand it acquired in Greece, and the marine-based skincare brand Algologie sits within its portfolio.

Alongside these beauty and personal-care lines the group operates in home care and other consumer categories, but its manufactured beauty and personal-care brands form the core of its cosmetics presence.

Acquisitions & strategy

Acquisition has been the group's principal growth mechanism, typically adding established local or regional brands to its manufacturing and distribution base. In 2007 it acquired the Romanian skincare brand Elmiplant, followed in 2010 by Kolastyna in Poland [1].

The year 2014 brought two notable additions: the group acquired the Noxzema brand from Procter & Gamble in Greece, and the Czech brand Astrid T.M. [1]. It continued to buy brands from Procter & Gamble in the region, taking on AVA in Greece in 2015 [1].

In 2018 the group acquired Indulona, active in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and Ergopack in Ukraine [1]. Further Polish acquisitions followed with Luksja in 2020 and Stella Pack in 2022 [1]. The pattern across these deals is consistent: the group has concentrated on consumer brands in Greece and Central and Eastern Europe, several of them long-standing names in their home markets.

Ownership

Sarantis Group is a public company listed on the Athens Stock Exchange under the ticker SAR, having floated in 1994 [3]. Despite its listed status, control has remained with the founding family: according to one business analysis, the Sarantis family holds a significant majority of the voting power, reported at 60.35% [3]. The company is registered as Gr. Sarantis S.A., with its headquarters at Marousi in Athens [1].
