Titania

Titania was established in 1950 by Friedel-A. Kotte senior, together with his wife Anneliese Kotte, in the family's hometown of Wülfrath [2]. It did not begin as a beauty company: in its early years it designed and produced gas lighters and other household items in its local workshop.

According to the company's own account, its first personal-care product arrived almost by accident. Kotte senior, drawing on wartime experience, had been trying to develop an insulating material to keep food and drink warm for longer; the material proved too thick for that purpose but turned out to have strong cleaning properties, which led to the creation of a pumice sponge. From that starting point the range widened into the personal-care and cosmetics catalogue the company carries today.

Over more than seventy years the Wülfrath site grew to exceed 20,000 square metres and now houses injection-moulding machines, tool-making, in-house cosmetics production and filling lines [2]. Beyond Wülfrath, the group operates a production site in Solingen and a research-and-development laboratory in Aachen. In 2022 the company carried out a brand relaunch, restating its positioning around the values it summarises as universal, reliable and uncomplicated.

The group's flagship is TITANIA itself, a personal-care and beauty-tool line spanning categories such as hand and foot care, facial care, hair, body, baby and men's products, along with accessories. It is the brand under which most of the more than 1,300 catalogue items are sold.

Niyok is the group's natural-cosmetics brand, which the company describes as a vegan, COSMOS-certified range of over 100 products. Berrywell is a professional haircare brand offering products aimed at the salon trade. Together the three brands cover consumer beauty tools and cosmetics, certified natural cosmetics, and professional hair products.

Titania has grown mainly organically, and its portfolio has changed little through acquisition. The one notable addition the company records is Berrywell: since 2006 the professional haircare brand has been part of TITANIA Fabrik GmbH, extending the group's range into salon hair products described as "Made in Germany" [1].

The group's stated strategy centres on domestic, in-house production. It manufactures at its own German facilities rather than outsourcing, and it reports quality and production certifications including ISO 9001:2015, C-GMP and IFS HPC, along with COSMOS Production certification supporting the Niyok natural line.

Titania is privately held and has remained under the ownership of the founding Kotte family since 1950. The company says it is now "proudly run by the third generation," with Jules and Michel Kotte involved in its current direction, following earlier leadership by André Kotte [1]. The legal entity, TITANIA Fabrik GmbH, is registered as a private limited company at the District Court of Wuppertal under HRB 12600 [5]. No outside or institutional shareholders are documented, and the company is not publicly listed.
