Summary

Overview

TITANIA is a German personal-care and cosmetic-tool manufacturer based in Wülfrath, North Rhine-Westphalia. It is run by the Kotte family, now in its third generation, and produces cosmetic accessories, foot-care products and manicure and pedicure tools that it distributes across more than 120 countries. The company remains active: it released a new product catalogue and brand video in 2026 and continues to announce international distribution partnerships [6].

The brand's own history page dates the founding to 1950, under Friedel-A. Kotte Senior [2]; some third-party directories and one section of the company's site instead give 1945 [9]. Glowpedia follows the 1950 date used consistently in the company's primary account and confirmed by an independent German family-business directory [8].

Origin & founders

According to the company, Friedel-A. Kotte Senior and his wife, Anneliese Kotte, established the business in 1950. In its early years the firm did not make cosmetics at all — it produced gas lighters and household goods. TITANIA traces its first personal-care product to an accidental discovery: while experimenting with porous volcanic stone as a post-war insulation material, Friedel Kotte noticed its smoothing effect when rubbed between his fingers, and turned it into a pumice sponge.

The date on which the current legal entity was formed is separate from that origin story. Business-registry records show the present company, TITANIA-Fabrikations-GmbH Gesellschaft für Körperpflegeprodukte, was re-incorporated in November 2003 at the District Court of Wuppertal (HRB 12600), a corporate restructuring of the older family business rather than a new founding [10].

History & milestones

The second generation, André Kotte, joined in the mid-1980s and moved into management by the end of the 1990s. The company added the professional haircare brand BERRYWELL in 2006, and in 2018 launched Niyok, a natural-cosmetics sub-brand based in Berlin. In 2022 TITANIA relaunched with a new mission statement. Julius and Michel Kotte represent the third generation now involved in the business, and Julius F. Kotte is recorded as an authorised company signatory from 2022 [10].

By its own account the company passed its 75th anniversary in 2025, and describes its Wülfrath site as having grown to more than 20,000 square metres, housing injection-moulding and tool-making operations, in-house cosmetics production, research and development, and two automated high-bay warehouses.

Ownership

The Kotte family holds majority ownership, according to Die Deutsche Wirtschaft, a German family-business directory, which ranks the firm #4664 among Germany's largest family-owned businesses and lists the Kotte family in its register of German family enterprises [8]. Business-registry filings additionally name an equestrian-sport company, Pegasus-Reitsport-GmbH, as a shareholder in annual reports between 2007 and 2019, suggesting the family holds interests beyond TITANIA [10]. The company is not part of a larger cosmetics group.

Philosophy & positioning

TITANIA positions itself as a maker of durable, everyday personal-care products for the whole family. Its stated mission, adopted in the 2022 relaunch, is that "everyone [should] feel comfortable in their own skin," and it frames its products as suitable regardless of age or stage of life. The company lists its core values as high quality, reliability, integrity, respect and sustainability, and trades under the tagline "For a beautiful life." It emphasises a "Made in Germany" identity and what it calls "independence through in-house production," meaning it manufactures most of its range on site rather than outsourcing.

Products & innovation

The portfolio runs to roughly 1,300 articles. Alongside the original pumice sponge, TITANIA is known for foot-care collections — sold under names such as Foot Protection, Foot Basics, Foot Repair, Fresh Feet and Foot Spa — and for manicure and pedicure implements, makeup brushes and sponges, and hair brushes and styling tools. External figures put annual production above 36 million units [9]. The BERRYWELL line supplies professional haircare for salons, while Niyok focuses on vegan, increasingly plastic-free products. The company reports certifications including COSMOS Natural for its natural cosmetics, ISO 9001, IFS HPC and C-GMP.

Recognition

In 2023 the company's Korean branch, TITANIA Korea, received a Forbes Korea Best Brand Award [6]. Beyond German business directories, TITANIA has little consumer beauty-press coverage, consistent with its focus on tools and accessories rather than formulation-led cosmetics.

Current status

TITANIA is active. The company describes more than 75 years of operation, cites distribution in over 120 countries, and its most recent public activity — a 2026 catalogue, a new brand image video, and partnership announcements in markets including Malta, Georgia, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Korea — is dated to 2026 [6]. Independent sources describe it as one of Europe's larger personal-care manufacturers, with employee counts reported between about 200 and 300 depending on whether the figure covers the Wülfrath site or all facilities [8].
