Summary

Overview

Anthologie, presented commercially as Anthologie by Lucien Ferrero, is a niche fragrance house built around the work of the French master perfumer Lucien Ferrero. The line gathers his fragrance compositions under a single name and presents itself as "an anthology of olfactory compositions" that, in the company's words, "encapsulate memories, emotions, and moments of life." The brand grew out of an earlier label, Maître Parfumeur Lucien Ferrero, which was rebranded as Anthologie [9].

The company's national identity is mixed. Trade and retail sources place the operating company in Italy: its contact line carries the Italian country code (+39), it exhibits at the Pitti Immagine Fragranze trade fair in Florence, and much of its distribution runs through Italian retailers [3][4]. At least one Italian retailer instead frames the house around its French perfumer [7]. The creative work is French — Ferrero is based in Grasse, and the fragrances are composed there.

Origin & founders

The brand is inseparable from Lucien Ferrero, born in Grasse in 1946 [7]. He grew up among the flowers of the region, where his maternal grandparents cultivated roses and jasmine, before training at the Givaudan Perfumery School in Geneva. Over a career spanning more than four decades he worked across Givaudan's operations, including its Paris luxury division, and later at Expressions Parfumées in Grasse, where he developed ECOCERT-certified natural perfumes. By his own account he is credited with close to 50,000 fragrance compositions and describes structuring a perfume "like a piece of music, a painting or a sculpture."

The Anthologie name emerged from a collaboration with Jean-Claude Ellena, a fellow independent perfumer best known for his fifteen years as the in-house nose at Hermès. After more than forty years, the two created two fragrances together — C'est Mutine and C'est Rebelle — which the company says represent "the pleasure of reliving the Belle Parfumerie that both Masters helped to build." Around this project Ferrero's existing collection was renamed Anthologie by Lucien Ferrero [9].

Philosophy & positioning

Anthologie positions itself within the tradition the company calls "Belle Parfumerie," balancing classic French perfumery with what it describes as "a modern interpretation of raw materials." The house frames each scent as a record of lived experience, captured in taglines such as "an olfactory journey that transforms, like a conversation that begins aloud and ends in a whisper."

It operates in the luxury niche segment, sold through specialist perfumery retailers across Europe rather than mass channels [4][6]. Distribution listed by retailers spans Italy, Germany and Spain alongside dedicated online sellers, with 50 ml named as an official online retailer [6].

Products & innovation

The collection consists entirely of fragrances. Its line includes Écoute-moi, Par Amour pour Elle and Par Amour pour Lui, Seringa Blanc, Sakura Imperial, Ce n'est pas un Patchouly, Rose Abricot, Bois de Zanzibar, and the Ellena collaborations C'est Mutine and C'est Rebelle. Recurring materials across the range include orange blossom, jasmine, rose, patchouli and sakura.

A distinguishing technical element is the use of three custom raw materials Ferrero developed with the Grasse company Accords et Parfums — alcoholates derived from orange blossom, jasmine and rose concretes, which the brand says are meant to "remind the elegance of old-fashioned fragrances." C'est Rebelle, released in 2023, paired the Ferrero–Ellena composition with packaging designed by Daniela Caon [8].

Sustainability

Two commitments feature prominently in the house's own materials. Its packaging uses paper the company states is "FSC™ certified, containing 40% post-consumer recycled waste, produced in compliance with strict environmental standards." Separately, Anthologie says it works with the Italian Union of the Partially Sighted and Blind to add Braille to its boxes, describing the aim as "a universal translation of the fragrances."

Recognition

The brand has been covered by perfume-trade and specialist outlets rather than mainstream consumer press. The industry database Fragrantica published a feature on the collection and its rebranding from Maître Parfumeur Lucien Ferrero [9], and the Italian perfume institute Accademia del Profumo reviewed C'est Mutine and C'est Rebelle [8]. Le Luxe Authentique ran a portrait of Ferrero's career [5]. No major consumer-press awards are recorded in the available sources.

Current status

Anthologie is active. It is listed as an exhibitor at Pitti Immagine Fragranze edition 23, scheduled for 11–13 September 2026 in Florence [4], its website carries a 2025 copyright, and recent additions to the range are dated through 2025. The house maintains multi-country European distribution and a social presence under the handle lucienferreroparfums.
